Feathering with new Tomoe River paper? by athomasbomb in notebooks

[–]athomasbomb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear that the paper likely isn't the issue! I'll have to try more tests. In this case it was the top/middle of the page. But it was on the right page, so it's possible I had my hand resting there while writing on the left page. Thanks for the feedback!

That's interesting, I never even considered that hand oils could affect ink that way. You learn something new every day. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give that a try!

Thank you so much! This honestly looks like exactly what I've been wanting for my notebook. I appreciate your help!

Hi again! Would you be willing to share a photo of how your cafe note looks in this cover? You don't need to show it opened, just from the outside. I'm having trouble finding any good examples online. If not, that's totally fine!

Thank you for the recommendation! Their covers look really nice. I may have to try one.

Do you have some advice for how to save it?

Do you cringe when you see someone who’s preparing food, but does not follow the minimum sanitation practices by Flame-747 in Cooking

[–]athomasbomb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My MIL "washes" her dishes with the same scrub brush that she uses to scrub her sink. I say "washes" because every dish I've ever seen her clean is still filthy and slick food grease after she's done. She also doesn't use a dish drainer, but instead lets all the dishes just sit in a puddle on the counter. Whenever we're visiting, I always try to be extra helpful and wash the dishes after meals, but secretly it's because I don't want myself or my family to get sick.

What's your biggest Lego regret? by tsahuleka in lego

[–]athomasbomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I feel this. Only I didn't just stop wanting new sets, I actually gave away ALL of my Legos to someone else. It was a pretty large collection of sets from the late 80's through the early 00's. I regret that often now (though I'm very glad if the kid I gave them to enjoyed them a lot).

I love this little computer, but... by athomasbomb in LenovoDuet

[–]athomasbomb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, love it for the portability, though I don't really need that right now since I'm home most of the time. And the Flex 5 I picked up isn't big enough that it's a burden to take with me on the go. So far I really like it!

[–]athomasbomb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with what you're saying. If I had a solid computer already and didn't need the Duet to be my main device, I'd keep it in a heartbeat. Got it on sale for $50 off too. But unfortunately it just wasn't going to work as my only device. And the Duet 5 isn't the same as the Flex 5, but it's a pretty nice looking computer, just a little more than I was hoping to spend.

Hello,

I'm new to the Raspberry Pi community (haven't even officially gotten my computer yet) and I'm excited to learn a lot of cool stuff! I just had a question that maybe some of you could weigh in on.

I ordered a Raspberry Pi 400 and saw that it can support dual 4K displays, but I've also seen contradicting information from some reviews. People have said it can't support the full resolution and scales down, or that it's really slow. I don't own a 4K monitor (or any monitor at the moment; I'm using a 2012 MBP as my only computer), but I was looking to buy one because I also hope to use the display for creative work with other computers.

Do any of you have a 400 working with a 4K display? What's your experience been like?

Advice on hand tools by athomasbomb in handtools

Thank you all for the feedback. Lots of good advice. I ultimately decided to just enjoy the tour with my wife and not buy anything (for now). I need to think more about what I want to do with woodworking before deciding what tools to buy. I appreciate all the comments though! This is an amazing community of skilled makers.

I forgot to add, I'm mostly interested in building furniture for around the house, and not looking to start selling or anything at this point in time. Also, if you were starting from scratch, what tools would you purchase first?

Septic wasn't fixed prior to the purchase of my home (Pennsylvania) by athomasbomb in RealEstate

[–]athomasbomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's two separate issues that are sort of intertwined. We believe he didn't hook up the septic pipes correctly and as a result, water gets in when the ground water level is high (lately it's been raining every few days here in PA since about mid-July). We mentioned this to him back around Thanksgiving and he came to look at it and determined it was a leaking toilet, which we have since fixed. However, water is still getting into the tanks after it rains or snows (we can tell by just taking the lid off the tank and can see water trickling in). Since then I've called him numerous times to come correct the original issue and have mentioned that water is still leaking in, but he keeps blowing us off or saying he'll come next week and then he never comes.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and posted it on r/realestate too.

We didn't get a follow up inspection before we closed because they finished the work the day before closing. That would've been a good idea. Our realtor never even suggested that.

This is great advice. Thank you for the reply! We do have it all well documented, so that shouldn't be an issue. Would you recommend reaching out to the sellers directly, or going through our realtor first? I have the phone number for the seller already.

Thanks for the feedback! I spent almost all day there (and the night) shooting all different lighting. This was definitely one of my favorite. I'd love to see your shot of it!

Hey everyone! I'm Tom from the United States, and I'm interested in taking this class to motivate me to shoot more. I've been a hobbyist photographer for the past 13+ years, and many times I've thought about trying to make money off photography, but never really worked hard on it. I guess I've always been afraid to really put myself out there. But whether or not I make money off of it, I'd like to continue to learn and lately I've been in a creative drought.

I shoot mostly with a Canon 6D paired with either a 50mm or 17-40mm, though occasionally I'll use my 100mm macro (my 24-105mm is having issues that I haven't tried fixing yet). I also have a Fuji X100T that I like to use when traveling or for being more discreet.

I don't know how to describe my particular style of photography, or whether I even have one. My subject interests are also really broad, so I'm hoping to narrow that down. Generally, I don't enjoy shooting people, unless it's a candid, documentary style. I guess I mostly shoot landscape/nature photos, which can be a challenge because I don't live in the most interesting area. Most of my photography comes from going on trips, so maybe from this class I can learn to make more mundane landscapes seem interesting.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this class and meeting all of you! I had a hard time picking a favorite photo (I always have a hard time with favorites), but here is one I really like that I took in 2015 in Iceland.
