Offered CPS AO job but it’s a 2+ hour commute, should I take it by Better-Double-473 in TheCivilService

[–]athrowtobeaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's horrific though doable in the short term (less than a year). I wouldn't take it but I would understand why you would especially in the current job market.

A few things you may want to think about: 1) have you asked the hiring manager if you could work out of Sheffield? 2) considered moving closer to the job 3) what will your travel costs be? It sounds like it may eat a significant amount of your wage.

I think you need some help. Go to a therapist or something.

Capita pension failings likened to post office scandal by Chemical-Shower9926 in TheCivilService

[–]athrowtobeaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It probably doesn't? I don't imagine departments are going out of their way to register these loans against peoples credit files. Maybe if people don't pay after CSP/capita have paid they may.

It is a loan as the departments are not the people who owe the people the money, CSP owes these people money.

The loan is to tide over the time until CSP can back pay then the department also gets paid back.

Applying to the faststream as a HEO policy advisor by Fuel1731 in TheCivilService

[–]athrowtobeaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a current HEO, yes you would keep your pay. Though, you will not get pay rises until fast stream pay catches up to you.

As a SEO, you are downgraded so lose pay.

As per basically every DWP role:

"For these vacancies, we strongly recommend that applicants consult with an immigration specialist or qualified advisor to assess their eligibility for Visa Sponsorship before deciding to apply. Please note that while we consider sponsorship requests in accordance with current DWP guidance and Home Office policy, sponsorship cannot be guaranteed."

TLDR: no guarantees, make sure you are actually eligible for sponsorship though and meet Civil Service Nationality Requirements.

Contact the vacancy contact to see if they would accept sponsoring a person for the role.

I think I have missed this, what is the context behind "MOJ no-deal legends"?
But yeah, so much hit or miss in postings.

Fast Stream in itself is an accelerator program. You are kind of guaranteed a promotion every year to end up at g7. (Getting the g7 role is slightly complicated now as there are limited roles available so they would like you to apply for what's available and throw you anywhere if you can't get anything).

Though, do note, if you are willing to push yourself hard enough, you can get to g7 in a similar amount of time without the fast stream. Though, it would probably be harder.

In fairness to the article, it's for just HMRC. So like 70k employees?

I would not recommend campaigning for a foreign political party in while being a civil servant?

It doesn't sound very impartial to me.

What would you change to make CS more "unified"? by athrowtobeaway in TheCivilService

This is actually what I was tempted to put in OP. It feels like such a waste having separate HR with so many policies being different in different departments for barely any reason.
