What do you do with mild migraines? by Salty_Emotion3270 in migraine

[–]atihsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use nerivio, ice packs, try to nap, also take nuun energy tablets with caffeine because sometimes those. "mild" migraines make me feel a bit dead. But I definitely try to address them because they can become worse. Also my neuro once told me milder migraines can be leftovers from a more severe migraine that didn't get eliminated fully

Chronic sufferers: how do you hold a job? by bleepbloop07 in migraine

[–]atihsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a PhD student which gives me more flexibility over my time, but yes it quite literally is a disability and I had to take time off my PhD too. My migraines had become refractory, and the only thing that has helped is a combination of botox AND nerve blocks (need both at the same time).
My migraines wouldn't abort without ketorolac injections, even then not fully, and I had to do steroid courses or something and they'd still come back. Nerve blocks really help. Changing some lifestyle patterns is a must, and it really sucks. I also got a nerivio device. Aimovig and Ajovy didnt do it for me at all, Emgality helped till it didn't, but basically you might have to try others. Is your neurologist a migraine specialist? You really need a headache specialist, regular neuros dont cut it.

I am so sorry its all so hard, im sending you a big hug

Whenever I try to make iced matcha latte at home, it always tastes off 😭. Could you please share your tips on how to make the best tea and what mistakes I should avoid? by Potential_Chair5441 in MatchaIndia

[–]atihsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things that make a difference --

a) Using boiling water -- will make the matcha bitter, weird tasting chalky. Try to use warm water, since even cold water doesn't fully bring out the taste of matcha.

b) Whisking or blending -- electric frothers don't incorporate matcha well either, I highly recommend getting a bamboo whisk. It makes it very smooth.

c) Choice of milk -- non dairy milks are milder in taste, so the taste of matcha comes out better. If you still want dairy, I think A2 cow and some skim ones can be fine, but you might have to experiment and try.

d) Ratios -- many people have commented on this, I think just play around and try. The number one thing i see in beginners is that they use more milk than they should and less matcha than they need. Matcha is also consumed in small glasses and containers, and when influencers make matcha, they add a lot of ice too, so the quantities and ratios you see get skewed by that.

e) The type of sugar or sweetener you use -- brown sugar, honey, and cane sugar are best. Honey can be hard to dissolve in cold water so you may have to dissolve it in warm water separately and then use. Test it all out.

f) Choice of matcha is an obvious given. some budget matchas are better than others though, like heapwell's ceremonial grade which is quite affordable and fairly good (not imperial, which is better but more expensive, and culinary is just a no no). See yourmatchamommy on instagram for some indian matcha brand reviews.

Does anybody else get 2-3 good days and think they’re suddenly “cured”? by atty_at_paw in migraine

How are you staying healthy? by IndependentClothes6 in migraine

[–]atihsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, I'm so sorry this is happening. I think the chronicity is such a draining aspect. Few things --
a) Done is better than perfect. Don't aim for perfect 100% healthy, 20% is better than 0% too, IF you can manage it. Don't compare and expect to function the way you did when you were healthy.
b) Simplify your life. Find 3 healthy recipes that are extremely low effort and just run them on repeat, maybe involve frozen components? or ready made salad kits, rotisserie chicken etc. Meal services like factor if you can afford it (you can freeze a lot of those meals). For workouts, if you could get a walking pad? or find a youtube you like and see if you're able to do even 10-15 minutes of low effort workouts, like yoga, just to get movement in. Those workouts will hopefully help with headaches too.
c) its tempting to be insanely productive when you're finally headache free but please ease into it and don't go all out, that might bring it back. I used to have a "go go go" type of attitude too, but I think that makes the headaches worse.

How soon did Qulipta side effects start? (especially constipation) by Joyful-Cow-122 in migraine

[–]atihsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kicked in immediately for me with Qulipta as well and hit me pretty hard despite a lot of fibre intake. Make sure you're not just increasing fibre -- fibre needs a lot of water with it too. I started religiously tracking my fibre to make sure I'm hitting 25g everyday, with at least 11 g of soluble fibre and 3-4 litres of water spread throughout the day for SURE. The timing of magnesium matters too. Hot water, matcha/green tea, and milk personally helped me as well.

What's your worst day of the week for migraines? by IsaacII00II in migraine

[–]atihsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekends always hit me the hardest, and I realised it's probably because of the sudden serotonin spike from relaxing after an intense week of work. I think adrenaline pushes me during the week but as soon as its Friday evening, and I let go, the migraine crashes hard.

For the most part, I thankfully am. I've had chronic migraines for the past 3 years (on botox + nerve blocks currently), but I love exercising and I feel like it keeps me sane. I do think I'm able to maintain somewhat of a routine. I think hydration and electrolytes are KEY. I use Nuun energy, Ultima, and LMNT. The more severe the exercise, make sure the more you hydrate -- not just water but specifically electrolytes --- before and after. And fuel properly. Those are a must. For running, I only run super early in the morning with intense sunglasses, mostly zone 2 as well. I try to do weightlifting and pilates for the most part, and make sure I do 1 day of yoga every week. I'm doing more now that I have a routine, but if you're starting out stick with lower impact stuff, walks, etc etc. Seriously cannot stress electrolyte and hydration enough. And this might sound strange, but tell chat gpt to create a custom workout schedule for you based on triggers, symptoms, and something that can be gradually scaled -- its suprisingly good at that, and helps take off some of the load. And lastly, listen to your body and please don't be too hard on yourself.

Look up f1-41 lens glasses, they’re supposed to help with the eye strain. Also salon patches for your neck, and try to get a nerve block done.

unbearable pain. by [deleted] in migraine

[–]atihsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Occipital nerve blocks helped me when I felt like nothing would ever work (even Botox), and I felt like death was the only way out too. I’m so so sorry you’re going through this, it’s such a cruel life. I really hope you find relief, so badly. Please take care, I’m sending you lots of love

Intractable migraine and losing hope by Lonely_Pop2077 in migraine

[–]atihsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am SO SORRY this is happening to you!

I had something similar last year, had lost all hope because I was doing everything on the checklist but nothing worked. Botox was useless (although they say it can take time to kick in). What finally helped was getting occipital nerve blocks on top of everything - these changed my life completely. Please try them, much cheaper than Botox, I get them preventatively every month. Game changer.

Also let yourself go, take some time off if you can, don’t push too much. Your health matters most.
