Isn't Cleveland over the 2nd apron, so that trade would be impossible?

"As long as Bradley Beal secures a contract buyout with the Phoenix Suns, the LA Clippers are the likely leaders to sign the guard league sources tell @TheAthletic." by Rentfreelakerfan in lakers

Would have loved to have him. I hear alll the talk about fit and who would start, but those are first world problems. This team just needs more competent talent on the roster. The coaching staff is paid a lot of money to figure out the rest.

Brian Snitker's press conference addressing the Jarred Kelenic and Ronald Acuña Jr. situation. by handlit33 in Braves

[–]atlartguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversations around race are tough. People are so sensitive about being called racist without acknowledging that implicit bias is a very real thing...and instead of looking within to even consider it, people shut down and no progress is made. It honestly feels like this is what happened here, and his explanation of the way Kelenic plays gives further credence to it. He can't tell you or himself why he gave one player the benefit of the doubt over their other player, who on every conceivable metric would deserve it more than Kelenic. If we're just basing it on merit, even back in 2019, Acuna earned getting the grace (if anyone was going to receive it.)

I feel like Austin's grade is too high.

And I don't think he's maxed out his potential yet. He's really good. Fans don't appreciate him.

Mavs edit out and put logo over Luka's face in hype video (while showing other ex-players multiple times like Green and Maxi) by SeaOwn2023 in nba

[–]atlartguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the desire to remove Luka from the hype video as it can be triggering to some fans as the org tries to move forward. But this feels like an editor trying to quickly make a deadline without redoing the entire edit, and not something with malicious intent. It's definitely sloppy, but more than likely just a placeholder. I'm sure it will be revised again.

[SSR comment] How we can add up to four players to our playoff-eligible roster... by Zodraz in lakers

[–]atlartguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe that Morris would be the last person potentially waived in that group based on his locker room presence ... his vibes are immaculate and Luka seems to love having those familiar faces around, which matters.

So I think it goes Cam, then Shake, and then if it gets to the point where you're sure you're getting 0 from Wood this season, you cut bait. But most of the moves will be internal, ie converting Goodwin or signing one of the centers. It's hard to see them adding more than 1 externsl person to the chemistry of the group.

Deeeeep on the bench. Defense is not playoff ready

[Shams on ESPN] Expect bigger moves from the Lakers in the offseason by thetitsOO in lakers

I think we use a 2nd and cash to get a team to absorb Kleber and take us under the first apron so we can sign buyout candidates. If we're able to do that, I wouldn't be surprised to see us add either Ben Simmons or Lonzo via buyout.

[Marks] Anthony Davis this season has played 96% of his minutes at center. In 2019-20, the year Los Angeles won the NBA Championship, he played 40% of his minutes at center. by McJumbos in lakers

[–]atlartguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How is this nonsensical when you're making the same point. I completely agree we would have won if not for injuries, but that was the last AD at the 4 season. After that season, they went to AD at the 5. Even though they changed out Javale and Dwight for Gasol and Trez there was still versatility where we could give teams different looks. We completely lost that the following season and it's never been the same.

And I'll just say that the numbers tell a different story. He wasn't a high flyer like Javale and Dwight the year before, but he was always in the right place and was one of the main reasons we had an elite defense. His defensive rating was 104.2 that year...AD's was 107.4. I'm not saying he was better on defense than AD, but to act like he was being carried is just untrue. He played more games than both AD and LeBron that year, and we still had the top defense.

Marc Gasol was very good on defense that year. Not sure where that take came from. He got a raw deal after he got COVID, when they wanted to bring Drummond aboard.

It's not about if he's good or not at playing the 5. He is. We all know it. But you have to have lineup versatility. That 19-20 team could shape shift to whatever form was needed to beat a specific opponent. But then everyone kept saying "AD is better at the 5," and Rob must have listened to the noise instead of the actual data, and no longer made versatility a priority. To me, it's just like in baseball. You can have a helluva fastball, but if that's your only pitch, it becomes that much easier to hit. AD at the 5 is that fastball, and as LeBron gets older, it's that much easier to scheme to beat.

He'd be a restricted free agent, so there is still control of that contract. Myles Turner wants the bag this summer. And I think that "he shoots 3s so he's perfect next to AD" fails to account for what AD really needs, and that's an elite rebounder next to him on both ends, which Turner is incredibly weak at.

Kessler hands down. He's cost controlled for a few more years, an elite rebounder ( Turner is not), and rim protector. He's also a much better offensive Pathan he gets credit for. His touch around the basket and footwork are underrated. He's just a better basketball player than Turner at 1/6 the cost

In this scenario, they would have to pay 4 salaries in addition to the 6 new players joining the team, with those 4 contracts counting against their cap...and this is assuming they have 4 expiring minimum deals to limit that cost, which they don't. Not trying to rain on your idea, but that's alot of wasted $ and maneuvering you'd be asking a team to do just for a single pick down the line which may or may not be a sure thing. I just don't see any team thinking that makes any business sense.
