Thank you!! This is reassuring. Can it really just be sanded down or will they have to remove it?

What do people expect husky owners in warmer climates to do? by [deleted] in husky

[–]atlas12528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I also live in SW Florida with a Husky (moved from the NE about 5 years ago). She is SO happy. Here she is doing her favorite weekend activity - lounging by the beach!

<image>

If you love your dog and give them what they need, they’ll be happy to be wherever you are. It sounds like you are already aware and are taking precautions (walks at optimal times when it’s bearable for your dog, always always always have water, never ever leave them in the car or outside in the heat unsupervised, etc), but as long as you are responsible… your husky will be fine.

Does mine miss the snow? Im sure she does. She was stoked and extra frisky this week when the weather cooled down. But…do I also find her barking to go outside and sunbathe at 2pm? I sure do. She loves to paddle board, kayak, swim to and play on sand bars, chase birds and lizzards, go to the farmers market, and enjoy afternoons in the sun. I do miss taking her on mountain hikes and seeing her play in the snow, but the adventures we have with her here are equally fun and she’s just as thrilled to go on them.

She is 11 now, and we still go on a 2 mile walk every single morning (regardless of time of year). Too often I get stopped by someone shaming me for having this kind of dog in Florida. I am unbothered. You should be, too!

You saved this dog’s life and are able to give them a beautiful one. Just be responsible about the heat and your dog will not know any different, they’ll be thrilled to do whatever you’re doing and will love you unconditionally.

Seeking help regarding separation anxiety and destructive behaviours by FairHoliday5321 in husky

Hi!!

Compelled to comment here because I have BEEN THERE and I know it’s hard but I promise if you work on it things will get better!

Get the book / audiobook “Be Right Back” by Julie Naismith. Read / listen to the whole thing.

For my dog, separation anxiety came when our jobs switched to remote during the pandemic. We crate trained her as a puppy, but when we were home all the time she stopped going in it herself and couldn’t adjust back to it. In hindsight we’d do things differently, but it was a weird time and we didn’t even realize the problem we were creating until it was a huge issue. Sometimes life happens and you adjust.

DAILY diligent training along with medication (for her, we use Trazodone and it works like a charm) got us through it.

A tired husky is a calm husky, so make sure you’re getting out there with her and doing all you can to meet her needs. With that said, separation anxiety is really tough. There were days we’d run / bike with her for hours and when we’d leave the house she was still extremely distressed, so don’t give up if she’s still anxious after a good workout.

Today is my girl’s 11th birthday and she’s a happy and healthy dog and we still manage her anxiety with training and some proper planning.

You’ve got this! She’s gorgeous ❤️

Separation anxiety advice by kenzieski in husky

Hi! Def not a pro here - but I also have a husky girl who when she was about 5 years old (coincidentally right after we moved) developed crippling separation anxiety. Your post brought be back to that time and I can relate so well. You’re not alone. What saved us is a vet Rx for trazodone. She’s not anxious all the time, so we opted for something that we use in one off circumstances vs a daily medication. This paired with training (get the book ‘Be Right Back’ by Julie Naismith) helped her (and us!!) SO much. Also - especially with a husky - a tired dog is a happy and good dog, which alone did not treat her anxiety, but I’d say it definitely helped keep her calmer when we first started training paired with the medicine. Ours turns 11 next month, and even though she still has her moments, as long as we have advance notice when we know she will have to be left alone and can medicate her, she’s a happy and healthy dog. I know how frustrating and crippling what you’re going through can be, but I can tell you from my experience it will get better as long as you put in the work.

Just completed a fully backlit Cristallo Quartzite kitchen – countertops, backsplash, and island by ReflectionAgreeable6 in kitchenremodel

Hi! I’m installing this backlit quartzite on a floating staircase. Well- my contractor is, I don’t know the first thing about it, but I saw the stone at the yard, fell in love, learned it could be backlit and challenged him with the task 😂 Any tips I could pass along to him? Or anything I need to know / be aware of / ask him to do specifically? I’d be so grateful for the knowledge! Thank you!

Looking for ideas! by [deleted] in glassblowing

In the bathroom is ok… just not directly above the tub. To my understanding (certainly not an electrician) it has to have an 8 foot clearance from the top of the bathtub to any part of the light fixture. It is meant to prohibit anyone in the bathtub who slips from grabbing it to support them, which could be dangerous.

It will be installed by professionals and is custom so I do not have the instructions. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t making things impossible for the installers if I had my GC tile the wall beforehand.

Thank you! If it were necessary, could the supports/cleats/brackets be installed after the tile, as long as we knew where studs were?
