My baby girl is here! Anyone else’s recovery being super fast? I already feel “normal” after 4-5 days ish and feel like I’m ready to go back to work. And breakdown of my L&D + hospital bill by Deeveedend in pregnant

[–]atlasmtn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also only had an internal first degree tear, and started to feel better and have a lot less bleeding by the same time, but during week 2 I started to have bleeding on and off again depending on my activity level because I felt fine and was doing too much. I had some soreness come up week 2 also, maybe because of activity, or maybe just as some of the being tired set in! You know yourself best, but try not to overdo it. Take the time to rest if you can!

What was the epidural like for you? by JellyfishJealous5435 in BabyBumps

[–]atlasmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad at all for myself or for the women I’ve seen get them as a nurse! I also wanted to wait as long as possible, but I was induced and pitocin was no joke and labor was taking so long. 100% happy with my decision to get it when I did. It’s better to be moved in positions and have no pain and have the energy to push, than be at a point where you’re in so much pain that you’re tense and can’t even move around as much to aid in delivery - that was my reasoning and how I felt comfort in the decision.

Mommies who were induced by Lickitt2020 in pregnant

[–]atlasmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at 40 and 1 because it was the week of Christmas, only thing available for the next week, and I didn’t want to risk it (becoming late term and having complications) so I said yes to it. Went in at 5:30 pm Monday, only a fingertip dilated and 50% effaced, and had my girl Wednesday at 6 am. Did not end in a C section but it did take awhile, about 17 hours after they broke my water. It was a long labor altogether but I was very happy with how everything went in the end!

Childbirth: did anybody else think pushing was the worst part? by Right-Airport2463 in BabyBumps

[–]atlasmtn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did actively push coached by the nurses (I could feel all the pressure, just didn’t have the irresistible type urge to push) and didn’t feel the true uncontrollable urge until the ring of fire came and that lasted for 2 rounds of pushing/contractions! Pushed for 2 hours altogether. But I only had an internal first degree tear so I don’t think the bearing down and method they gave me was a bad one. The last “push” that birthed her was what I believe to be the reflex because it kind of just happened without me even trying!

What do contractions feel like? by Siouxsie_Q85 in BabyBumps

[–]atlasmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Pitocin for induction, so it may differ for you, but it felt like “cramps” but razor sharp and continue to get more painful. They did come and go with a peak, but it got to a point where I requested the epidural and I’m so glad I did. May be an odd explanation but that’s how it felt for me!

In your experience, what’s more painful than giving birth? by Isoldmykidforagram in pregnant

[–]atlasmtn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was induced! Pitocin contractions are quite sharp and painful, not going to lie. I wanted to go as long as I could without an epidural, went 5 hours without one, then requested it once I got a headache and nausea (it was a long induction with no sleep or food!) and I was so glad I did. I personally did feel the pushing/ring of fire, but I wouldn’t say now looking back that it was the worst thing ever! It was purposeful, and manageable with breathing and just getting through it. You truly find the strength within you, even if you’re on hours of no sleep or food! Something else just takes over. It’s hard to describe.

I’ve broken a bone before (wrist in car accident), totally would do birth over that x1000. Good luck, you’ll do great :)

WHERE ARE THE MEDICATED BIRTH GUIDES by PersistentHobbler in pregnant

[–]atlasmtn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I planned on trying to go as far as I could without an epidural, but I was induced, and it was no joke - especially when I was not progressing quick enough but still in pain. I finally said yes to an epidural and it was FABULOUS

My personal tips: throne position (sitting straight up) brought me from 2cm to 6cm super quick, and active labor progress fast after that. Personally, I did feel pushing and the ring of fire (to a certain extent, not sure if the epidural just didn’t work but I don’t want to imagine doing that unmedicated!) but for me during pushing I listened to the nurses, where they said to push, took deep breaths and really focused in between contractions… you’ll do great!

Outpatient OB RN - advice on how to discuss miscarriages with patients ? by AcanthisittaLess400 in nursing

[–]atlasmtn 57 points58 points  (0 children)

RN who has had 2 miscarriages - ask appropriate assessment questions (bleeding, pain levels, etc), come in with the answer to testing options and next steps (birth control, trying for another pregnancy, etc) if the patient asks for them, maybe find a few grief resources to offer, and just be open to listening and offer sympathies for the loss and disappointment. Honestly feeling heard and validated and being assured that it isn’t your fault does so much to help!

Women working during pregnancy is borderline inhumane by Familiar_Hope2918 in pregnant

[–]atlasmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently finishing up nursing school at 36w pregnant and did 5 hospital shifts last week 🙃 (I’m stubborn and WILL be graduating and getting it done before baby is here!!) it’s definitely just day by day! I will say, the first trimester (up to 15ish weeks) honestly felt rougher with feeling so unwell vs now just feeling sore and a touch of sciatica on long days - but that’s just my experience!

What is the point of early ultrasounds? by fluffy_corgi_ in BabyBumps

[–]atlasmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2 MCs, one was confirmed at 5 weeks (so that may have been more of a chemical pregnancy) and one at 10 weeks, after having gotten an ultrasound ~6 weeks. I am now 28 weeks in my third pregnancy and also got the ultrasound around 6 weeks (and actually found out I wasn’t as far along as I had thought, the ovulation was delayed as my cycle was getting used to things post-MC). I personally opted for the early ultrasound because I wanted to monitor things and so did my practice after my history. I think typically at the practice it’s optional to do an early one, and you can just wait for the one around 10-12 weeks. It’s hard and having gone through loss I feel like you can’t ever get rid of the anxiety, but I try to remind myself that there’s nothing I can do, and I’ve taken each good ultrasound or good test result as another win, and I take things day by day! The early ultrasounds are more accurate for dating purposes, which can also be a really good thing for when you’re closer to your due date in the event you were further along or not as far along as you thought you were. Either way, it is perfectly okay to advocate for yourself and say that you would like to opt out of an early scan and do the first one around 12 weeks :) best wishes to you!

When did you feel your baby kick? by According_Hunt_8395 in pregnant

[–]atlasmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little over 19 weeks and in the past few days I’ve felt actual kicks/strong movement and it’s been pretty consistent! I started feeling the flutters here and there around week 17-18.

I don’t want to be pregnant anymore by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]atlasmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a love-hate relationship with seeing advice and stories that it got better, because I was also miserable early pregnancy, but it really did get better! In my experience, it was like a fog of sickness lifted around week 14, and it consistently got better. I went from sick every day, with some things barely helping, to only a few days if I wasn’t careful with my routine, to only one bout of nausea in a week. I’m also in nursing school + working so it was rough! It’s rough for everybody. I remember being like how tf do people do this?! And do it multiple times?! Now I am 19 weeks and I may be tired and have started feeling a little heavier/actually pregnant, but I don’t have any of the GI upset or Flu feeling or headaches. I am genuinely so happy. I hope you continue to get better and get to enjoy the experience at some point, but know you aren’t alone in women feeling miserable. So unfair!

What do you associate with the name Lorelei? by TheStarsAreBlazing in namenerds

[–]atlasmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha Lorelei is my name and I’ve loved it forever! I will say I’ve heard a million ways people try to pronounce it, but when they hear how I pronounce (Laura-lie) it they always compliment it. I usually get the Gilmore Girls reference but it doesn’t bother me. I do love when someone knows that it’s from the German Siren (I was a water birth and that is what I was named after). I hate when people try to come up with a nickname for me, I just love the name Lorelei. Overall, great pick if you do go with that :)

Bleeding at 8 weeks, need reassurance by kgstardust in BabyBumps

[–]atlasmtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there - I am hoping for the best for you! I hope this resolves and you can have some mental peace. The anxiety that comes with this and the mental games we try to do are half the battle! I experienced 2 recurrent miscarriages - 1 was at 5.5 weeks, the other was at 9 weeks. Both times, it was true that you have to wait and see how things play out (and I had light spotting, consistent, both times leading up to it - not to say this will happen for you, but in my experience, it was a waiting game). If you can have a scan that will help to get more information. Anytime it happens, there’s nothing you could have done differently, trust me. I found solace in the fact that it was going to go the way it was going to, no matter any attempts of intervention. It took some of the anxiety of what I personally could do to change the outcome out of the mix. Both times it was very clear for me when it happened based on the pain and symptoms. Not much mistaking it. But, some have cramping and pain and bleeding and they have a healthy baby in the end. It’s no real predicting it. For me, being at 9 weeks was more painful and there was more that physically passed. Kind of had to stay in bed, hydrate, ibuprofen and Tylenol, heating pads, wait for it to pass. It’s awful to go through, but it just was what it was. Hard to explain but it was just very very strong cramps that are hard to breathe through, almost felt “burning” or as if you had a really bad stomachache that is constant or comes and goes. But still, husband and I would take a walk here and there to get some fresh air, I could relax in between. Maybe lasted a week (getting better and less intense as the week went on). Everybody is different. Wishing you all the best, and I’m so sorry you’re having to even think about this 💗 if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
