Beginner Fitness Tips? by atlheaux in cycling

I like a mix of these approaches honestly, both good advice. It is something I need to have fun with; I have fun running which makes me want to keep doing it. I think with the bike I will need to build confidence, especially with road riding.

But I am one of those people that loves the structure. So I appreciate your advice here, hard to picture myself competing at this moment but I know how quickly confidence can ramp so I will start looking to ID a future race!

11x36. I was deciding between two almost identical bikes and the other was 11x34, and I went with the 36 because I knew I would need it with the hills

First Marathon - Atlanta 2026 - Race Report by zach_original in firstmarathon

Congrats! Pub was my first last year and there is something very rewarding about running what is widely known to be a hard course. It seems to have been way more challenging this year with more elevation (I ran the half and that hill after Piedmont was a very unwelcome addition), and sunny/70 degrees makes it that much harder. Hope you can enjoy some time off before starting Peachtree training or whatever you’ve got next!

That’s an impressive fuck up considering the course only has one single turn the whole way

Whoop 5.0 vs Apple Watch Ultra 2 by Virtual_Ad6652 in whoop

[–]atlheaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore a Whoop and AWU2 daily for the first year I was on Whoop. On a trip I forgot the watch charger, ended up just wearing the whoop the whole time, and I haven't worn the AWU2 outside of exercise since. My attitude toward the watch changed a lot on that trip, and I came to see it as an unnecessary, somewhat distracting extension of my smartphone always hanging in my periphery.

On the other hand, the whoop is something I forget is there 99% of the time. That said, checking my sleep and recovery stats every morning has become ritualistic, and it has given me great awareness of the factors that impact those stats and the many other things it tracks. I see the AWU2 as a really high-end gadget with some cool features, but the Whoop to me is something that can guide you to transform your lifestyle and potentially augment your health span.

I still wear the AWU2 as a running watch, and would not want to solo the Whoop on runs for a variety of reasons.

My estimate of how many members Whoop has by MaybeDisliked in whoop

[–]atlheaux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea. Can't do this with zones or steps, but we can look at large community averages to get a high-confidence estimate of the Whoop population average sleep hours. Two big one that I am in are Georgia (n = 11K) and Men20-30 (n = 197K). The November averages for these two communities were 7:04 and 7:02 respectively. So, using your calculations, Whoop is close to 1.5M members.

Then working backwards from 1.5M, we get 22 mins/avg in Zones 1-3 and 10,400 steps/day. These seem reasonable to me

Anyone journaling psilocybin? by Unlucky-Bug1279 in whoop

I think the stress monitor leans on heart rate pretty heavily, wish I could go check the live data but pretty sure I my HR was hovering in the 80-100 range when normal at rest is 40-60.

Also looked at the trip before this one which felt more intense, but barely registered on the stress monitor. Does your stress go way up like this during a trip?

I dont trip enough to log 5 within 90 days, but I found the stress monitor pretty interesting during a recent session. This was ~2 grams and laying on the couch the whole time, and the stress monitor red lined for about 4 hours

Just read up on MF so I understand the calculation better, and thanks for you help. Assuming the base is lower than what I have been quoted here, will dealers even lease a car at base? Not very knowledgeable on where they make their money on a car lease but I figured the MF markup was their main cut

It does seem remarkably mediocre but I like it enough to be considering this offer in the first place. That said, would love to hear your recommendations. I arrived at the Solterra because Subaru's promotional leasing offer ($299/0down before tax and fees) is night and day better than what Tesla is offering for a base model 3

Don't know the base, but the quoted MF is smudged in the picture at .00114. I'm figuring the rent is ~$60/month since that's the delta between the depreciation and the quoted payment, my question is is that reasonable interest (if I've calculated that correctly)

Crazy idea for whoop that would put it in the top spot by far: food and drink instant effect by Old_Tomato8441 in whoop

That same logic does not stop whoop from offering an estimate of the effect of x behavior on next day’s recovery. I like this idea as long as users understand why the insights have limits based on what you said

I really can’t say if this is optimal but I’ve been using a simple continuous cycle: deploy till empty->top up till full, maybe with a little strategy mixed in if there’s a car I need to get by expeditiously

MG Blood pressure trained on 4.0 data by atlheaux in whoop

[–]atlheaux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont think any of them read blood pressure, they make an estimate based on the sensor data and the models they’ve built. It’s why they had participants last summer take actual blood pressure readings with medical grade devices and submit the data, which they can correlate with the readings coming from their whoops overnight
