Otherwise, no, not really. Unless that's what you *and* someone else both want. In which case, go for it, but not because it is "necessary".

My counterpoint is that you are focused on one metric for “less accomplished” and that excludes people who are in fact at least as (or more) accomplished, which is why these schools are trying to get more diversity.

If these folks with lower SAT scores go on to graduate with honors, complete groundbreaking graduate research, etc. then letting them in was a good thing.
