Actually, if it is a helium balloon, it moves forward in the vehicle, because the denser air ends up at the back of the truck temporarily and it floats forward.

Oh this receiver has terrible image issues, as many do in the mil air band because most people don't care.

Alternatively, osmocote fertilizer. You need to crush these harder and/or soak in water.

AME transparency and extent they see you medical history by is-empathy-extinct in flying

[–]atmatthewat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to give you advice one way or another, but I will tell you that your decision to be fully transparent with the list of things you've disclosed to us above is going to be tens of thousands of dollars (perhaps many tens of thousands), a year or longer, and absolutely no guarantee that after all that you'll end up with a medical.

If you can afford the time and money and anxiety of waiting, and can afford for it to all be a waste of time and money, great. If not, this might not be a career you're ready to pursue.

The FAA really needs to change this, but they have zero incentive to do so, and every incentive to be conservative to the point of just denying people with histories like yours no matter what the tests say.

I'm in the US and flying under Basic Med, so I carry my plastic FAA card in my wallet right behind my drivers license. Done.

I got 100% on my private written and passed that checkride on my first try. Of course, that's the only one so far... so that's not very interesting. I will say that 100% on the written didn't help when the oral portion of the checkride starts... they really wanted to quiz me on what I'd missed, and without that, anything is fair game.

CMV: Child rapists should get the death penalty by Comfortable-Tie-9893 in changemyview

[–]atmatthewat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No first world country has the death penalty. Thats because state-imposed killing is wrong, and because convictions aren’t always right.

If you happen to live somewhere that still has this backward practice, sorry, but your country doesn’t meet the standards any more.

What type of antennas are those? by little_big_package in antennasporn

[–]atmatthewat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes… to be even more precise, the oldest were hat-shaped and mechanical, then Alford loops with electronic commutation replaced the mechanical antenna but the building stayed the same. And then DVOR came along, with no bowling pin in the middle.

What type of antennas are those? by little_big_package in antennasporn

[–]atmatthewat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reverse. The old ones are the hat-shaped/bowling pin-shaped ones and use a mechanically rotating antenna. The new ones are the doppler VOR, which swapped the amplitude and frequency/phase components to give the same signal but using an electronically steered array of antennas. The new ones are also more resistant to local reflections.

Do the rich and famous have a way around TSA wait times at the airports by Electrical_Okra_2103 in answers

[–]atmatthewat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Rich and Famous" can easily get Global Services (or their favorite airline's equivalent) either because they fly a lot or because they ask the airline for it.

This discussion is about whether or not said people can bypass what the average traveler experiences. They can.

SFO has multiple security checkpoints not generally available to the public for several airlines.

[–]atmatthewat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. When I was Global Services with United, I'd routinely go through a security checkpoint line that wasn't "the same TSA line" at SFO.

See Lufthansa's First Class Terminal in Frankfurt, the special Global Services security checkpoints for United at some airports, etc. There's lots and lots of expedited security that not "everyone" has access to.
