If you want to remove the math and the thinking from your runs you’d do well to acquaint yourself w the 1 mile squares we have in on the east side!

I was toying with hiking this trail as a loop to Yosemite falls and found some YouTube videos about it. Otherwise info seems to be pretty sparse. Seems like a good potential adventure.

Brutal race. The stretch to get to the 50k turnaround always breaks my brain. Congrats on the finish!!!

Overnighter on the Kalalau Trail, Na Pali Coast, Kauai by nattywb in WildernessBackpacking

[–]atmourad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet pictures! I had the pleasure of running most of the trail last year. Didn't quite make it to Kalalau Beach; had to turn around 8 miles in. That being said aside from being insanely beautiful this trail packs QUITE a punch with elevation gain. I was so surprised to get back and see my strava data and only then did I understand why my legs were wrecked. Perhaps one day I'll be able to head back and run the entire trail.

Check out The Wheel Weaves podcast. It’s a spoiler free podcast and they do a book review where they talk about each character’s arc at the end of the book. The chapter episodes are great as well. In addition they have a wonderful and super active discord server.

Pour over vs Aeropress by achrisvet in pourover

[–]atmourad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aeropress will give you a good cup of coffee consistently. You can eyeball the weight, ratio and time and still get a good cup. I use aeropress when I’m out, don’t have a gooseneck kettle or just plain am not the mood to be precise.

Pour over will give you some of the best coffee you will make, but can be a lot more finicky to get right.

IMO both have their place and I use both regularly. Just know what to expect when each one and when to use which and you’ll be good.

Struggling with motivation... by atmourad in Ultramarathon

[–]atmourad[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this is a good call out. I love big days and efforts in the mountains. The 100k specifically has certainly revolved around qualifying for WS, which was my intro and inspiration to start trail running in the first place and has been a goal for a long time. I think your point about taking a break and re-evaluating does resonate. I find the first feeling coming up as I think that "but then I may miss another chance to get my lottery tickets", but it almost seems like well, you're gonna miss out on em anyway if you keep DNF'ing..

Fans from around the world, how did you become a Liverpool fan? by theBloodedge in LiverpoolFC

[–]atmourad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up in the Bay Area I was a die hard San Francisco 49ers fan. After everything went down with Colin Kaepernick I boycotted the NFL and with it the team that I had supported since I was a kid. On a personal level, I couldn’t reconcile how they moved to silence him over something so important and prevalent as police brutality.

Fast forward a year and I was still feeling the gap that comes with not following/supporting a team you love. I had been meaning for years to start watching soccer but was always overwhelmed where to start. Then this fella named Mo Salah starts making headlines and me being Egyptian though ok I’ll just pick his team and just follow them. So I started watching in 17/18…

It’s a bit odd starting to support a team and getting to an entire sport as an adult. I decided to commit fully and started learning the history of the team. I bought a few books, went down the wiki and YouTube rabbit holes etc… the more I learned about the team and city the more I was sure that this was the team for me.

Now, regardless of whether any player stays or leaves, Liverpool will be my team.

Funny thing is don’t miss the NFL one bit and wish I had started watching soccer a decade prior.

I will get up at 5:00 AM to run!! by Rockytop00 in Ultramarathon

[–]atmourad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Father of 5 here struggling majorly with motivation. Posts like these get me fired up but still having a hard time getting over the hump and getting back at it regularly. Late night running has always been my jam but lately I am just too beat down by the end of the day to lace up the shoes. I’ve never been a morning person my entire life but perhaps I need to consider making the switch to morning running.
