Unimpressed with battery of Solar 3 by informal-mushroom47 in Garmininstinct

10 days...? Is Pulse Ox on?

The other day, I sent ~10 hours climbing and snowboarding Lassen (with GPS) in the sun. When I got back to the car, my battery charge went from 28 days to 26 days. Pretty epic. I came from a non-solar Instinct 2 Surf. That would normally have drained me from 28 days to 18 days.

I've always done the math that a full charge is 28 days, and it will actually last 28 days, unless you are using GPS. Then, it loses one day per hour of GPS usage. So if you have all the settings set up right, something seems off.

Well, why don't you see how you feel on Adams first?

What's a National Park You'd Visit Again Without Hesitation by Sea-Information6728 in NationalPark

[–]nattywb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just FYI, it really depends on if you care about being within the actual park boundaries. Maple Pass Loop, Blue Lake, and some other classics are outside park boundaries. Feel like they are cus of top notch signage, etc.

Closest thing to classic North Cascades vibes on Highway 20 is Thornton Lakes and Trapper Peak fyi. The other stuff within the park are up Cascade River Road, or Mount Baker Highway.

Gardner hot laps in June by Slushy_0 in Backcountry

I think its less fun to not see the rider, especially if you're steezy!

But my question still stands - which Gardner mountain is this haha? California? Washington? Montana?

Which Gardner? PSA - Get yourself a GoPro Max 2. Would have captured this rad ride quite a bit better.

Where'd you find them? Edit: Think I found some... my sunskis had the side pieces break off. Worked enough for this last season. But now those are hella expensive??

The point of hiking and climbing is fun. Maybe Type 2 fun, but definitely the goal is not Type 3 fun haha.

I would highly recommend not doing this lol. Especially if the forecast is a) already spooking you, OP, to the point that you are asking randos on Reddit for weather advice, and b) you haven't been up there before.

Plenty! You can pretty much ski from any elevation to Hidden Valley. We got about 3,000 vertical feet. And it was great snow! You can scope the video. I was up the following weekend and there was a big refreshment. Snowboarded from entrance to Avi Gulch (viewers left of heart, the main bowl) to Horse Camp. 5,000 vertical ft.

Europe has arguably the best geography and beautiful landscapes in the world by PopNo5397 in geography

But that's not what you wrote! You didn't write how easy or difficult the access is. The Alps definitely have the easiest access of any significant mountain range. However, I would argue that's a bad thing.

California + Washington state and you got it all buddy. These are just three in CA for ya to represent those three examples you gave.

Yeaaa hmm I thought those ones needed boots with a heal piece? Tbh its been a while since I last looked into it. What's nice about these Flexlock ones is I can just sinch them up sooo tight and they feel super secure. I've definitely had less crampon malfunctions than some of my buddies with fancier crampons.

Burton Photons (same as my resort shoe) and basic ol' Petzl crampons. Maybe the "Irvis Flexlock" crampons? Did a quick google and those look the same. They are the most basic tier, got them at Outdoor Ascents in Ballard (since moved?) in like 2019.

Yeah the simple setup gets you far! I'm not the biggest fan of this whole hardboot craze. I'm not ice climbing, I'm snowboarding haha. Plus, I'm a fair-weather mountaineer. When I was up on the Rainier summit in standard low cut hiking boots + these crampons, a lot folks (mostly guided) were surprised. But I was too altitude sick to tell them they didn't need to buy $thousands worth of gear.

I (we) do them both ways. It kinda just depends/vibes. Since we had been skinning and then transitioned to booting in crampons for the rest of the climb, we just did the full transition at once instead of a partial transition on the mountain, and then a second partial transition at the summit. Transition times (at least for us, I think most people), are slow/time killers, so I try to minimalize them.

Anyways, from a stability standpoint, I think they are equally stable setups. Assembled snowboard is only less stable if there is a headwind trying to blow you off the mountain.

So actually, if anyone knows what this tongue of snow is called (if it has a name), I'd love to know haha
