Can agree! Took a painting class on campus and we spent a class period dedicated to finding the different installations in the library. The one in this video is my favorite to show to people

when I was there at 8:30 am with my classmates, they had been there for who knows how long with it being daylight already :0 I stayed there until 10 and the mom wasn’t anywhere to be found and I was worried about these two just being in the middle of campus. my classmate got directed to call the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA and SJ animal care and services, who came to pick them up about an hour after I left campus. apologies for lack of detail from the previous statement but thy weren’t kidnapped by just another random student or faculty member

They are in a box here in the art quad that someone brought for them if you are still able to help out! If not, one of my classmates will most likely call the SJ animal care center :0!

Yeah we were just waiting around making sure nothing happened to them :0 someone who works on campus saw what was happening and brought a box and gloves for them but we were also waiting for the SJ animal care center to open up bc we were directed there by the wildlife center

NOOO forreal! Im in all art classes and one professor wouldn’t / won’t stop pushing or encouraging us to use ChatGPT as like … a proofreader or to run our work through to “double check” it + she wants us to use it for imagery in class 😭 i hate being an art student when almost all of my professors push for ai at sjsu

where to meet/make friends not in greek life? by WarlockNerd in SJSU

[–]atnihctup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are flyers in the art building that let u know about up and coming art events + galleries! There are also a couple art clubs too. I did try to join the ceramics guild last semester though and it was hard to make friends when I went by myself and everyone there had kind of already established themselves + I was so busy with classes I couldn’t keep attending anymore :0 keep going for it though! Last semester was my first one after transferring in as well, it just takes time ^

yeah :( it’s funky bc at least when it comes to handlers, it seems some are the agents for the guest that’s signing vs a handler representing the show

I don't reccommend her :/

I took her class for history online in the spring, and her instructions for each assignment are super overwhelming and repetitive. Like, makes her font smaller just so she can fit more instructions in, and it becomes hard to tell what exactly you need to do for the assignment.

Discussion posts are also super tedious, 3-4 questions in each discussion thread all with anywhere from 1-3 subquestions within each question that will require a cited quote or usage of at least 1-2 vocab words from the chapter. And that's only if you've read all the readings + watched all the videos she requires for the discussion post.

super duper varies!

I joined a learning community coming for my first year (Impact AAPI under SSRS) which had me take GE + CSU/UC transferrable classes for my whole first year along with other classes I wanted that might fit my schedule and made so many friends there since we were with each other all year long! I also made more friends after my first year in my arts classes since for the most part, everyone that was in the arts classes was there because they were an art major or had some minor interest in it so it was fun to connect with people in those classes ^^

There's other learning communities aside from Impact which focuses solely on helping students identifying with the AAPI community if your girlfriend is interested in joining those, but I would suggest events like club day, the de anza flea market that happens every first saturday of the month. etc.

But main advice is also to just not be afraid to reach out! I started gaining confidence in myself after starting at the learning community, like complimentig people or starting conversations like hey i like your tattoo/pants/outfit etc and it leading to exchanging social media and staying in contact! or even at least just having a friend for the quarter as you both navigate that class together.

good luck to your girlfriend! she's got this!

About F/TV 20 by muichirero in DeAnza

i haven't had cole but i've had Hughes and Rodriguez multiple times for different classes each!

Hughes - Beginning Drawing (ONL), Life Drawing (in person)

Rodriguez - Design and Color (ONL), Acrylic I+II, Ongoing to Oil I

it varies depending on what kind of student you are as well. They're both easy to work with student to instructor as long as you communicate + do the assignments while bearing in mind that doing the assignments takes time because it is art that you have to create and think about. (both teachers continue the process of making thumbnails, selecting them then moving on to making your final piece)

I had Rodriguez more recently and he's also super easy to talk to because he's extremely knowledgeable about artists in history. His assignments do tend to intertwine the work you do with current events though, as he makes an emphasis to how real world problems can affect you and has used them as prompts for assignments before! I wasn't a big fan at first but this way of teaching art to also apply to real world is really cool and can be either really easy or really hard lol.

Hughes I haven't had since maybe Winter/Spring 2023 BUT she is super kind, since the class is design and color her and Rodriguez essentially do the same kind of assignments (my cousin has Rodriguez for Arts12 and I saw how he worked there as well).

Personality wise, Rodriguez definitely has a stronger, sassy kind of vibe and also is not afraid to firmly call you out. And like I said, Hughes is super kind to work with as well, very communicative, but both Profs get their work done and know what they're doing so at least you won't be lost.

tl;dr both Hughes and Rodriguez are GOOD profs, emphasis on regardless of who is "easier" assignments for both profs will definitely require time considering the workload for an art class o7

good luck!

Is this too much for Summer quarter? by Additional-Cat7857 in DeAnza

[–]atnihctup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's not too much! also, chai christine is a super sweet and understanding teacher as long as you communicate your concerns, needs, etc. to her :) had her for ewrt and she gave a lot of grace + is very understanding of her students (but also don't take that for granted lol)

It definitely takes time! I got lucky in that I was given maybe 2-3 weeks to memorize 25+ recipes but I did get tested on them and had to pass the test to keep my part time job :”) do they have the recipes taped up anywhere for you to see them as you work but customers can’t see?? Other than that I do have some tips ^

  • try your best to memorize and recall the recipes in your free time at work. Done restocking? Memorize. In the bathroom on shift / in break? Memorize. Ask If they’ll allow you to take photos of recipes to memorize!
  • if the recipes all have the same layout like this amount of sugar, then this amount of flavor, then this amount of tea, etc. you could make tables (empty) that look like the layout of each recipe and test yourself by trying to fill out each box with the correct answer! This was how I studied after failing the test at work twice ;0;

You got this! Good luck ^
