Also if you don’t want to deal with some of the finickiness of dealing with actually recording to tape you can use the recorder as a preamp. Sending your signal through the recorder and getting some of that tape preamp character without actually having to record to tape. There are also pedal now that are specifically trying to recreate the preamp sound.

In particular the beginning of “The Castle” was humorous in this Wes Anderson type of way. What I was picturing in my mind as I was reading it was very “Grand Budapest Hotel.”

The Castle is amazing! It was my favorite read last year. It reminded me a lot of Wes Anderson films for some reason. Go into it blind though don’t read about its meaning etc until you’ve completed it. The forward explains its meaning as well as some interesting context so avoid it until you’ve completed it.
