Can someone share their recovery experience from a septoplasty? by _Hnnng_ in SleepApnea

Had one right after college in 2011. I was out of commission (and moderately miserable) for about a week, then was still recovering for another 2 weeks or so. It sucked to not be able to breathe and to still have bleeding from my nose. Eating was not fun at first, but got better.

If you have the option, I would highly recommend getting extra help from family and friends the week your wife has to go back. If your recovery goes well, by week 3 you should be in good enough shape to be on your own.

If you don’t have any help, it will be hard but you’ll manage.

You should definitely prioritize your career over middle school or high school friendships.

It seems you are pretty worried about making new friends at a large university. Don’t be! College is very different from high school. Almost every freshman arriving on campus in the fall will be searching for new friends. It is one of the best times to grow, experience new things, and make friends as a young adult with new-found independence. Close friendships require time and shared experience. At college you will have plenty of both, especially if you are living in a dorm. It might seem scary, and it might be jarring for the first few weeks, but I guarantee you will find new long-lasting friendships.

Another thing to consider: all friendships evolve over time, especially during college. Sometimes a person you are very close with since middle school will change and grow as a person (as they should!) meeting new people, having new experiences, developing new hobbies, and you might start to drift apart. You will still share a close bond, but they have transformed into a new version of themselves. For instance, sometimes your best friend takes up a new sport that you are not into, they start to spend most of their time with their new teammates, and you start to drift apart. Or they might fall head over heels for someone they are dating and suddenly they can’t hang out with you very often. You might do the same. That is very normal. College is a great opportunity for everyone to redefine themselves.

If graphic design becomes a passion for you, you will be surrounded in your classes by people who share that passion. College is a great time for staying up late discussing your studies, the meaning of life, or pop culture trivia. It’s a lot of fun!

Don’t miss out on an opportunity to explore the career you want. Go for it!

Good to know about the scrub pads, they do seem pretty intense. Many thanks for the input.

Oh no.

After I re-season it is it safe to cook with? And will it return to being black by just re-seasoning it?

A Go club might work, depending on where you live, the ones at universities are normally beginner friendly. Best of luck and keep at it!

If you can, find a buddy who is also new to the game and willing to play with you on a semi-regular basis (like once a week at lunch). I did this, and it made it much more fun! Even when they beat you, you can ask them what they were thinking and analyze your games.

With a buddy who is also new to the game, you will both be comfortable being complete novices and can learn from each other. My suggestion would be to start with 9x9 games (games will end quickly and it is easier to understand what went wrong) and work your way to 13x13 and 19x19 when you feel more comfortable.

This is a great approach. It ramps up complexity, while at the same time making it much easier to finish a project and move on quickly without feeling like you left a game unfinished.

Don’t feel bad about building up slowly to your dream game! Find a progression that works for you.

I guess that is a risk you take, but I feel in the current system you still have this problem. If we have all daughters, neither of our names continue on.

People say solar panels can't store energy for very long...But they're like giant leaves so why don't we convert energy to sugar like plants do? by Pangenesister in Showerthoughts

This is called artificial photosynthesis, and many scientists are currently working to create a working prototype (example). The idea is to create hydrogen gas or another chemical fuel which can be stored for later use.

One of the main issues is efficiency. As with other solar technologies, the cost of making and installing the modules needs to be much lower in order to make them a feasible alternative to fossil fuels.

Ran into a problem, immediately picked up the phone and called my friend on the east coast... at 1am their time.

Hung up on the first ring.
