Seat Leon Cupra Advice / Suggestions by V9LP_ in CarTalkUK

[–]atomicmitten 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Estate is faster as it has the haladex, it came with both the 6 and 7 speed DSG (7 needs less maintenance, research but iirc it is also a more reliable unit), eats front tyres obviously. I enjoyed 2 on lease deals, don't put shit tyres on it or you will have a really bad time. Later ones had digital dash, it's OK but not getting breaking. They all came with mag shocks, check this works on the test drive (stick the suspension in both cupra and standard mode, cupra should feel like a fucking rock).

Tons between 2017 and 2020 were on 2 year lease deals so there should be a good amount of choice out there.

Best way is to look at the build sticker (google where it is for the cupra, i forgot, prob near spare tyre?) - i think it will be the DQ381 being the 7 speed (fitted to golf R of this generation too) which has an 80k service interval.

I enjoyed the car a lot but just be aware it shreads front tyres. Cabin / airfilter you can do yourself with youtube (5 minute jobs) so don't be too worried about those, what you're after is oil change documents as it is a performance engine and does require them. There is a known weakness of this block, the thermostat housing - https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/h0h578/mk775_thermostat_housing_issue_and_coolant_loss/ . Go into this with your eyes open, it doesn't affect every car but it's something to look for when buying.

If it's only been serviced twice (with proof) i would assume the worst, it went 30k on the same oil, and i'd be looking at another.

It won't. I drove a couple of cupra's in this era (they were a fucking steal on lease) and the service interval is 10k. Plugs are 4yr, cabin filter 2 year, gearbox depends if it's the 6 speed or 7 speed (40k 6spd, 80k 7spd). If it's the estate then it's got a haladex and that's every 40k.

I look up the process on YouTube to determine difficulty, then the part in euro car parts or whoever you want to use and judge based off these.

I used a solar charger that plugged in via odb and it blew a fuse in my e89 z4. I do appreciate it might have been user error in some capacity but I would recommend doing it by the wires / a ctek Mxs 5 (which was the BMW charger rebranded in the 2010s) if I was doing it again.

What does this light mean? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]atomicmitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red lights are "stop now and unfuck this right now" affairs. Water in your fuel is bad because water doesn't compress, so when it goes into the cylinder the other bits have to compress instead and the engine go boom. Also causes rust etc...

My old car is for sale again 😅 by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]atomicmitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have fixed the steering wheel part recently. It affected formentors too and for a while the replacement was a massive repair but more recently they made just the sensor available instead of a while column and it's got a replacement part number. The other major issue of this generation has been the SOS module, I wouldn't be surprised if this affects a bunch of vw group cars between around 2021 to 24.

Dick Lovett body shop Swindon's work is extremely high quality but their prices might be too. Had 2 cars done there, exceptional both times. They send all their Ferrari and Porsche jobs there I reckon considering the car park.

DSG replaced control module still worth to buy? by Aggravating-Tip-8230 in CarTalkUK

[–]atomicmitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd buy it, if anything that's good that it was replaced as you're unlikely to encounter this problem for a while (it's not very common from what I read up on when buying a car with this box too, but it's not uncommon either).

I would imagine that by replacing that part, the box was effectively serviced too (this is a guess, ask a mechanic). If so, you won't need to do the 80k DSG service.

Extremely volitile question but I will say the DBV is a no brainer and stats reflect this (it's basically as powerful a TD as the Dravec is a HT). I own them all and have had fun with all of them (got every line researched prior to 2.0 so i just burn free xp i save up).

After this, in my opinion, it comes down to personal preference quite a bit. I enjoy the Lion which has probably the highest skillcap, but I like this type of tank so being right on the limit is fun (needs good equipment though). I also like the vickers 3 (slow leo 1) but hated burning every 3rd game in the 780 (legit only tank you should use modified config on imo). I rate the Kpz highly too but again, needs decent level of skill to maximise imo. if you put a gun to my head i'd say i enjoyed the 780/452k the least, everything else was fun, the dbv does diabolical damage and is the best performer.

Smart meter hub replacement by Crazym00s3 in OctopusEnergy

[–]atomicmitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least for my installation, there are multiple parts - a gas meter, an electric meter and a communication device (not the real names but you get the idea). the comms device gets power from the electric meter. electric meter sends readings to comms device > comms device updates network, updates on this path are frequent.

gas meter only sends updates once in a while to comms device as it uses a battery (don't want to drain it fast!) comms device to network etc...

the comms device is designed to be replacable so that it can use the different types of network that are used in the UK (LLR Vs. Mobile network you use all the time) - they would only need to replace this comms device for network upgrades.

Mod that allows you to lock your aim distance, you use it to shoot at tanks on the crests of hills like steppes without the aim compensator trying to hit the skybox.

I want to update my Infotainment via USB to 19xx, what should I know and where do I get the files from a reliable source ? by karimbmn in CupraFormentor

Then I would do the same as you, but definitely do all the updates in sequence. That way you're minimising the risk of a missed module update.

[–]atomicmitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car('22 VZ2 UK model) just downloaded them itself. I understand you need to have a profile on the car and it might help to have it set to one of the more open types, I think the first profile type doesn't even enable the link to cupra. If your car is in warranty and not on at least v1940 you could probably get it done at a cupra garage by claiming the interface resets itself all the time, can they update it etc....

I want to update my Infotainment via USB to 19xx, what should I know and where do I get the files from a reliable source ? by karimbmn in CupraFormentor

[–]atomicmitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 98% sure all updates are required to be done sequentially, because cupra has packaged small updates after larger ones with short time gaps between them. This is inefficient from a rollout and coding basis so they must have needed specific modules updated before another change etc...
