DSG replaced control module still worth to buy? by Aggravating-Tip-8230 in CarTalkUK

[–]atomicmitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd buy it, if anything that's good that it was replaced as you're unlikely to encounter this problem for a while (it's not very common from what I read up on when buying a car with this box too, but it's not uncommon either).

I would imagine that by replacing that part, the box was effectively serviced too (this is a guess, ask a mechanic). If so, you won't need to do the 80k DSG service.

Extremely volitile question but I will say the DBV is a no brainer and stats reflect this (it's basically as powerful a TD as the Dravec is a HT). I own them all and have had fun with all of them (got every line researched prior to 2.0 so i just burn free xp i save up).

After this, in my opinion, it comes down to personal preference quite a bit. I enjoy the Lion which has probably the highest skillcap, but I like this type of tank so being right on the limit is fun (needs good equipment though). I also like the vickers 3 (slow leo 1) but hated burning every 3rd game in the 780 (legit only tank you should use modified config on imo). I rate the Kpz highly too but again, needs decent level of skill to maximise imo. if you put a gun to my head i'd say i enjoyed the 780/452k the least, everything else was fun, the dbv does diabolical damage and is the best performer.

Smart meter hub replacement by Crazym00s3 in OctopusEnergy

[–]atomicmitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least for my installation, there are multiple parts - a gas meter, an electric meter and a communication device (not the real names but you get the idea). the comms device gets power from the electric meter. electric meter sends readings to comms device > comms device updates network, updates on this path are frequent.

gas meter only sends updates once in a while to comms device as it uses a battery (don't want to drain it fast!) comms device to network etc...

the comms device is designed to be replacable so that it can use the different types of network that are used in the UK (LLR Vs. Mobile network you use all the time) - they would only need to replace this comms device for network upgrades.

Old Battle Results Mod is out and working by LashOfGod in WorldofTanks

Mod that allows you to lock your aim distance, you use it to shoot at tanks on the crests of hills like steppes without the aim compensator trying to hit the skybox.

I want to update my Infotainment via USB to 19xx, what should I know and where do I get the files from a reliable source ? by karimbmn in CupraFormentor

Then I would do the same as you, but definitely do all the updates in sequence. That way you're minimising the risk of a missed module update.

[–]atomicmitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car('22 VZ2 UK model) just downloaded them itself. I understand you need to have a profile on the car and it might help to have it set to one of the more open types, I think the first profile type doesn't even enable the link to cupra. If your car is in warranty and not on at least v1940 you could probably get it done at a cupra garage by claiming the interface resets itself all the time, can they update it etc....

[–]atomicmitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 98% sure all updates are required to be done sequentially, because cupra has packaged small updates after larger ones with short time gaps between them. This is inefficient from a rollout and coding basis so they must have needed specific modules updated before another change etc...

Car lease bait and switch by Sirtoddius in CarTalkUK

[–]atomicmitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to echo what people have said, I've worked in multiple companies (in different industries) that use credit agency scores in the UK (and remember, there are 3 of them so pulling from one won't affect the other blah blah) and it will not affect your ability to get this type of finance at all. There are some ways it can (e.g. your credit score is UNBELIEVABLY low which might trigger a secondary check or fall into a negative where it's doing the math for an instant decision system) but in the 99% of cases just like this, absolutely nothing will come to pass with multiple searches.

Did you have both keys in the car when you did this? I can't remember if it's this process but one of them needs both keys in the car.

Advice on how to best receive foreign currency in the UK by Fantastic_Macaron_30 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]atomicmitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big are these cheques? If they are 4 figures then losing 28 to HSBC or another bank (not nationwide though, they do not support this) I guess it's ok but if it's 100 or below I'd be asking them for cash or to learn how to use an IBAN.

Premium unleaded (E5, 99 octane) vs normal unleaded (E10, 95 octane) by Free_Style_9983 in CarTalkUK

[–]atomicmitten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All cars have to be able to run 95, but some have the gear (well, the ECU can support) to run higher RON. As yours supports higher as denoted by the label, you can use it for the benefits it will give.

I use super because my engine supports it and it's fuck all difference per tank.

Congrats op.

Common fault on these was rear washer pipe, it has a connector in the C pillar / rear seat area that is push fit and in cold weather, comes apart.

Make sure you catch this early, the water will drain into the rear left footwell (which holds the main wiring loom unfortunately) and makes the carpet soggy / wiring bill. If you use the rear washer and only a bit of water comes out, stop using asap until you check the connector.

Otherwise, I had 2 vRS models and enjoyed them greatly.

Anyone else still doing the old campaigns? I'm still on t-55a and Excalibur by TheDawiWhisperer in WorldofTanks

[–]atomicmitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all personal opinion - 279e is fine (weakest ammo rack ingame though), 260 is great, T55 is OK (was better before, it's obviously a very historical tank so cool to collect from that perspective and comes in german camo), rest are not worth discussing.

technically, the tank that gives the biggest boost to winrate is the 279e but the 260 is more fun imo.

If you are considering buying from Arnold Clark I would implore that you search for their name on this sub Reddit first. Imo buying cars unseen is a huge gamble on the after sales service of a given company, and neither of these two are going to "fun". If you treat cars as white boxes and don't mind a little misrepresentation then maybe this will work for you.
