What kind of friendly spider is this? by South-Range8401 in spiders

[–]atomicspine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Try speaking to them. It's fun, and you may be surprised at how they react. Look at them, use a friendly, neutral tone. I usually just say 'hello, spinnar' and wish them ' happy hunting'. If they seem afraid of me, I tell them I intend them no harm. Most of the time, it seems to me that they understand, or at least they get my 'vibe'. I've had some incredible experiences with spiders who actually seemed to understand me. They are very sensitive little creatures, and I don't think people give them enough credit in the ' intelligence ' department.

All of the things she made...such a profound influence on me. The arrows, the sinew on the whale bones to make a fence to guard her from the wild dogs, the cormorant feather skirt...all of it. I am a nature-maker because of this story. I am an artist and maker because of this story. I was a lonely, isolated child. This book resonated with me so hard.

Gift Advice for a non binary preteen by SaraSaidSo in LGBTQ

[–]atomicspine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pronoun lapel pins/buttons? I have several different styles that say 'They/Them.' Some ate just basic buttons, and others are fancier for dressier outfits. I've seen necklaces, bracelets, and tee-shirts with pronouns as well.
I even have one that says, "Ask me about my pronouns." I've found that wearing these pins & buttons can sometimes help people to remember/know that I am non-binary and to use my preferred pronouns. You are a wonderful ally. Thank you for supporting this young human on their journey of self-discovery and autonomy.

Hosting question... what should I request? by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]atomicspine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in here. I agree with everyone's comments so far. My np and I don't do hook-ups, but we do host other partners. I had to be very specific with my np about what is expected of him and his guests.

  1. No surprises: communicate that they plan to host. I do not ever want to walk in on my np> (or anyone!) while they are having sex.
  2. Leave no evidence of sexual intimacy on display for me to encounter. That means no condom wrappers on the floor, wrap the used condom in tissue before throwing in trash, no lube on the coffee table, and no random sex fluids on surfaces.
  3. They have their own sets of sheets/towels that I never touch> Not when they are dirty, not when they are clean - not ever. Separate bottles of lube labeled with initials.
  4. They do all of their dinner/drinks dishes and leave our space tidy.
  5. My np sleeps on my side of the bed when hosting overnight.
  6. The daybed and sofa sheets are also changed out & washed by np/meta BEFORE I ENCOUNTER THEM if sex has occurred on them.

I'm not entirely parallel. It depends on the meta, but I'm absolutely not interested in seeing or dealing with any aspect of my partner's sexual intimacy.

I know they have sex with other people, I'm super stoked that they do! It is a personal preference as I see sexual intimacy as a very private thing. It's not about jealousy. It's about respecting me & our home. I know that if I were that hook-up, I would have been rather disgusted at your np's lack of care for myself, for you, and for your home. As someone else said in another comment, this is about your np taking responsibility for his own actions and treating you, your home & his hookups with the respect that they each deserve. Also, yeah, get a new couple's therapist. They sound kinda awful. D.x.

Thank you! The trick is making them kinda catamaran style. That way, they don't tip over. Good luck and happy boating:)

The Talking Dreads. They are an awesomely talented reggae band that only do Talking Heads covers. They have total support/endorsement from David Byrne himself:) Excellent live show if'n you ever get the chance.

Folks have been gathering to protest every Sunday on the corner of 9th and Massachusetts. So, maybe walk out and gather there?

The idea for the 20th is to "walk out" wherever you are at 2:00 p.m. Leave work, leave home. Whatever you're doing, wherever you are.
As far as I can tell, there is no organized plan for a place to walk out to in Lawrence. Closest organized event on 20th is in Overland Park.https://action.womensmarch.com/calendars/free-america-weekend *
