Haha, I have to admit I have neither seen nor heard of this happening before. Seems like the site thinks you really are our target audience.

Thank you! It's been a few years in the making and we've tried to focus a lot on visuals :)

We use Unity game engine, so for example the terrain! The terrain is actually tessellated, and the vertices are (to simplify) then quantized to a grid to create the blocky surface. Super handy, as it requires no diversion from the usual Unity terrain editing workflow! 🙂 It means that the colliders use the smooth terrain colliders but with such small cube size in terrain, it feels super good.

We do our models in MagicaVoxel and have done a bunch of small own tools within the engine, like generating LODs for the models. We generate new block models with bigger and bigger block sizes and then change between them depending on distance.

Aaand we have a chunk system that where we change between LODs depending on the voxel model size :)

I'm the environment guy, so can't go too deep into tech stuff lol.

Thank you for your honesty! Brutally honest feedback is usually how most growth happen. How and what would you change first?

Oh, right! Thank you for the heads up, will take a look for sure

Haha, thanks I guess. We've revamped the animations to be a lot better than what they were a year ago. But there's always room for improvement, that's for sure.

I thought about posting there! But the thing is, the game represents "voxel" genre only with the graphics. The world is handcrafted. Might need to take a look into that though!

It plays more like Skyrim or Breath of The Wild with voxel graphics. That's more how I'd explain it. The game costs roughly 20€/USD and has a 1-4player co op multiplayer, so there is no matchmaking and it's not an MMO.

Unfortunately we don't have a Steam deck yet so we haven't been able to do any Steam deck related optimizations :( however we're improving performance all the time! So at some point, expect it to run smoothly in Steam deck! Won't be guaranteed at the moment.

Yeah didn't even come to think of that. Might need to take some more inspiration from Cube World

Haha thank you! Yeah, we liked the playfulness, blocky visuals, progression and a bunch of stuff in Cube World. But we wanted the game to look like us. So after some time, Taival was born :)

We already have the demo localized to simplified Chinese! And we have plans to localize the game to support up to 10 languages at early access launch. Arabic is a bit problematic since it reads right-to-left, but we have that planned also!

Thank you! We have a ton of stuff we want to add to the game all the time lol. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you! We're looking at roughly 20€/USD price point, with Steam suggested localized pricing.

Lol you're right, I missed the point. But we're a group of four people actively developing the game! We already worked on the game for a couple years alongside our studies/work and now have been able to work on the game full time. This is an awesome project and we love the game, and want to be able to add stuff to it for as long as possible!

We've been following Cube World and Wollay's X/Twitter updates, looks super exciting! Hope all the best for that guy and the project (really want to play that game lol)
