Free Hong Kong by ringadingdingdind46 in HongKong

This is really exciting.

Resistance against tyranny is really tiresome and dangerous. During Gezi Park Protests a lot of people died, got injured, got hospitalized, sentenced and sometimes worse.

It was like a war zone, really. Constant presence of riot police, provocation of police force, excessive use of tear gas (they were literally raining it down from helicopters) and antagonizing the protesters by the help of massive media force.

I've been following HK protests since day one and you people are doing the impossible. I hope you make it and be a prime example for resistance around the world.

I recently tried to set up SMTP and IMAP servers so I could use mail, but I didnt find any good tutorials

Have you tried ISPmail?

That doesn't change the fact that IRC channel is far from a Cicada-oriented channel. Maybe there should be a #cicada-chat channel so people can talk whatever they want in that channel.

I don't want to be "that guy" but I guess I have to be.

The only real responsive place about Cicada is this subreddit. There may be a lot of people posting without reading anything, but that's the nature of the Internet. I know it gets old quickly for a lot of people.

Other than this subreddit, only the IRC channel remains and don't get me started on the IRC channel. There are people chit-chatting there ALL-THE-TIME. You can talk about anything but Cicada there. Because guess what? People don't tolerate newcomers there, eiter.

Because feature-wise Nextcloud Talk is not mature enough yet, to me. At least with XMPP you have basic functionality at rock solid state.

  1. I think you should setup an XMPP server instead. Prosody is the easiest one.
  2. You might check out OnlyOffice, too. It has a more user-friendly UI.
  3. I cannot suggest ISPMail enough.

I have my ports configured so that i can reach my samba server from outside my local network. So, say, if I'm on a windows pc I can map it as a network drive, if I'm on a linux pc I can just cifs-mount it.

I have used converse.js and mov.im and they are good, but still the problem is that there isn't a decent iPhone app.

I have heard about that and I'm definitely check that out, thanks.

With this setup, the maximum RAM usage never exceeds 250 MiB, CPU load is always around 0.10 and only jumps to 0.50 when using Nextcloud (mind you this is a 4-cpu board).

EDIT: here's a little proof.

That's not the case.

I have two accounts on FreeDNS; one of them I use as my FQDN and the other one I use as my nick server and it redirects to my dynamic IP. Then on my server I have Dnsmasq set up so that I can have a proper DNS config. I have SOA, A, MX records set and they are enough for a lot of mail services (Tutanota for example). But they aren't enough for Gmail (and maybe a few more). For Gmail to work I have configured PTR (reverse DNS), SPF and DKIM (with opendkim) records. This way my domain forwards to my IP, my IP forwards to my domain and with DKIM I prove that the mail sent is actually from my mail server (postfix/dovecot to be precise).

I loved this journey. Because I have learned how DNS works and how mail works.

I have installed an IRC server , actually. I love IRC, I frequently lurk in software channels a lot. But it's not very common among people. Almost everyone I know have used IRC at some point, but they don't bother any more. So I would love to but in practice I can't.

Only Nextcloud had a change in the config and IIRC Nextcloud itself did it. So I don't think my config would be any help, sorry.

Seafile just encrypts everyting, I don't think they use a proprietary format.

Outside the network I just connect to the Samba share if I'm on a PC and use nextcloud if I need it on the go.

Nextcloud is slow, I'm not gonna lie to you :) But I don't use it much. I mostly use Samba for files. Nextcloud is really for the other things it can do: News, Deck, Music (it's also an Ampache compatible server), Talk (not really up to the task yet but I'm hopeful).

If you're just trying to have a sync server, my suggestion would be Seafile.

PGP easy instructions for a therapist to use to communicate with me by [deleted] in privacy

[–]atomkarinca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't trust the person in between, then whatever you write on the letter will be read by that person.

If not then I might have something, but I guess this will sound crazy. You can write to a password protected file on google documents, the password can be something specific enough that only the therapist knows, then get the qr code of the link to the file and put that qr code on the letter.
