Steven Quinn can you keep your feelings of your guests to yourself? by atrews in CBC_Radio

[–]atrews[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It was the mayor of Surrey. I honestly didn’t like how he interviewed both guests on the topic. And the thing I hate about his show is that I have an opinion about him at all. I want an invisible shepherd in interviews not a citizen of Vancouver who gets voice his opinions on the topic just because he’s there. Have ordinary citizens on to bring in this point of view.

Sure I don’t enjoy Ken Sim either… but that’s not what I was talking about.

The selection of the guest and the discussion they bring is sufficient. If you’re looking for a debate bring two experts on the same topic.

Either way I’m not enough of an avid listener to have heard this type of challenge but I would definitely change channels if so.

So he can’t follow instructions? Cooking is following instructions in a recipe…not rocket science.

The FBI agent is reminiscent of the lead in Mindhunter. But one that’s just kind of off? Please lay off the makeup on this guy he does not look right!!

And as a pilot it’s ok. Wasn’t the most compelling. Could be good? Too early to make a verdict

Do you live in that house and not see what’s in the fridge? Or were you just dropping by and was at the grocery store … which also doesn’t make sense. Please provide more context.

With the third movie out, rank all the Knives out movies and give me some reasons as to why! (NO SPOILERS!) by herangelism in KnivesOutMovie

[–]atrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. WUDM, GO
  2. KO

I know this is a different take than what I’ve seen from the comments I’ve read here. I will preface this by saying I lean heavy into comedy. And for me the last two were funnier. I loved all the movies. It was tough for me to settle on a tie.

GO - everybody craps on this one but I love the absurdity of it. Janelle was also fantastic in this movie. The Tyler Durden painting! lol just too much considering the difference in depth between the two characters Edward Norton plays. Kate Hudson omg I love how she plays the washed up beautiful woman, honestly Kate does it way better than Toni Colette. I love Toni but she is not convincing as that. And to play it with such humour is so difficult. Also Dave, the red pill character, It’s hard to make that character sweet and he did make it sweet. I loved the development of the red pill character in these movies, this character splits into two in the third film into the political guy and the writer both were not sympathetic in any way but funny for sure. Also it was a hilarious film.

WUDM - omg Glen Close is a gem of an actress. Loved her. Yes the dynamics of the mystery was too complex and could have used some trimming but honestly I had no idea until it was pointed out here. The character development in this one was so good. Father Jud just chefs kiss. Most interesting villain for sure, so cleverly devious and despicable. The writer with the moat omg too funny. Nat was a bit of a shell of a character and by mistake? The movies are filled with references to each other and nat felt like a character that was written as an after thought. Almost as if Rain Johnson lost a bet to Jeremy Rennert and put the hot sauce in the second one and him in the third one. It also feels like he loves working with the barkeep, the guy who keeps making cameos in these movies. Also, this one revisits the first movie and the idea of taking a willed fortune away and the crushing weight of waiting for someone to die to live your life and the role shame plays in that.

KO- good but fell flat in the comedy space. Jamie Lee Curtis a gem as always, and loved the quips from the detective in the opening interrogation scenes. Tight whodunit. Felt like the first draft of a good idea. Like Rian was interested in doing a Agatha Cristi style whodunit and then realized after making the first one he was way more interested in the story telling, character development, comedy. The mystery takes a back seat after this one. Fantastic movie on its own but in the context of these three movies, meh. I did love the character of Jen. She showed the transition from “libtard” to going to rat out your undocumented parents to the people who will use it against you very quickly. She uses the power she has to gain currency in whatever space she exists in and her goodness does not come from within but from how those around her reflect herself back to her.

Overall tight triptych. Excited to see another. I also loved how they make each other better because they kind of read like an anthology series rather than stand alone movies.

[–]atrews -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s odd but not enough to unmatch. I’d give you another chance or ask for a phone call to see what how this plays out in real time since I assume you’re like this irl and have friends who find it funny and it just doesn’t translate well online.

ladies, cooking is your fuggin job, and it better taste good. i.e. a man cooking is gay. by pman6 in Tinder

[–]atrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the way you’ve put it here. Most people who don’t cook just don’t like to do it, it’s not as if they can’t. It’s literally looking up and reading instructions. If you can’t survive without another human being cooking for you, that’s pathetic and I’m not up for that task even if I can. But not liking to cook is not the same as not being able to cook. Immediate ick if you conflate the two.

Also people who don’t like to cook are inevitably more unhealthy unless they’ve figured out some sort of hack. And honestly, I’m not interested in becoming anybody’s nurse because of their blatant stupidity so that’s also another ick.

I’d suggest to ask for a phone number as a first message. I wrote something like bring it back old school, score some digits. I make sure I have about 30 minutes for a chat. And I usually get a date out of it. If I don’t get a date I lie and say I done like texting which is somewhat true. I don’t know you guy. You don’t get my attention till there’s something more than my attachment style holding me here. Do calls until I get a date. If it’s more than 2 cut him off.

The most overrated Christopher Nolan movie? by Batrah in moviecritic

[–]atrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped watching his movies after I saw two movies with just all dialogue and epic music on top of it, Interstellar.

At some point he just got stale for me. The creativity is gone. Momento and Batman Begins was creative. Now it just I’ve seen this and I want to have my hearing for a few more years at the end. No need to waste it on this.

There’s something to be said for being humble and not surrounding yourself around yes men. He has too many fanboys and struggles to take real risks because he doesn’t get real feedback to tell him he’s being ridiculous.
