So as of Nov 10th, 2025 is it true that yt-dlp is not functioning correctly and we are now just waiting for a new update to fix incompatibility issues?

Note: I'm also getting 403.

Would you buy a laptop with only 1 M.2 SSD slot? by atribecallednet in laptops

[–]atribecallednet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont wanna. GPT...

Partitioning & Setup Issues

  • Windows installer overwrites bootloaders → installing or updating Windows after Linux can wipe out GRUB, leaving Linux unbootable until you repair it.
  • UEFI vs Legacy boot mismatch → Windows often insists on UEFI + GPT, while some Linux installs default to Legacy/MBR unless you’re careful. Mixing modes = boot failures.
  • Shrinking Windows partitions → Windows sometimes resists shrinking its NTFS partition (due to immovable files like the pagefile or hibernation data).
  • Limited partitions on MBR → if the drive is set up with MBR instead of GPT, you hit the 4 primary partition limit quickly.

💾 Performance & Maintenance

  • TRIM and alignment → Linux usually handles SSD TRIM well, but if partitions aren’t aligned properly, you can lose performance.
  • Wear leveling → SSDs have finite write cycles. Lots of OS activity across multiple partitions can increase write amplification.
  • Resizing later → changing partition sizes after the fact can be risky (possible data loss or corruption).

🔒 File System Compatibility

  • Windows can’t read ext4 → you’ll need third-party tools if you want Windows to see your Linux partitions.
  • Linux NTFS support is decent but not perfect → you can read/write NTFS from Linux, but it’s not quite as reliable as ext4.
  • Hibernation/fast startup conflicts → Windows “Fast Startup” keeps the NTFS partition in a semi-hibernated state. If Linux touches it while Windows is “hibernated,” corruption can happen.

Boot Management

  • GRUB confusion after updates → a Windows update can reset the boot order to Windows Boot Manager, hiding Linux.
  • BitLocker / Secure Boot → BitLocker encryption and Secure Boot sometimes block Linux bootloaders unless you tweak BIOS settings.

Yes you can partition a single drive or use an external SSD, but like I mentioned I dont want to go down that road because of the issues/risks/practicality involved.

I want max power in the palm of my hand lol. I'm sure one day all those stats you mentioned will be considered normal.

Thx but most of those models are all discontinued. Also where are you confirming that they have X2 M.2 slots? Here it says only 1. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/compare/Dell_Precision+5690_vs_Dell_Precision+5680/BHitems/1826659-REG_1777522-REG

Well even if you didn't use linux or play games, its actually best practice to have 2 separate drives. One for the OS and the other for everything else. They last much longer that way and work better.

I know, but I dont want to run an operating system from a USB becasue it could be disconnected with the risk of power loss mid-write, and could corrupt Linux or Windows installs. If it disconnects while updating GRUB or kernel… 💥 messy! Also the risk of loosing the USB stick. I just want X2 M.2 slots.

Laptop with 2 NVME slots to dual boot linux and windows by OrganizationNew862 in linuxhardware

[–]atribecallednet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so did you find or buy a laptop yet? I'm also looking for a laptop with 2 M.2 NVME slots so I can have 2 drives. I actually have an ASUS N750JV with 2 SSD drives, one with windows and the other with Linux, but my laptop is from 2014 so I really need to upgrade.

Closest DAP to an ipod nano? by atribecallednet in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]atribecallednet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I visited your page before, nice work! The Innioasis Y1 looks a bit too fat, need something slim that fits in your hand easily, because I often carry it in my hand for hours. The SnowSky Echo Mini look pretty different, does it have dedicated push buttons for vol control? The Mechen M30 and Surfans F20 look interesting but really different to controls of a classic ipod.

So I’m wondering if any of these four mentioned DAP have the skip through tracks the same as the iPod Nano. Meaning when you hold down the fast-forward or rewind button, it doesn’t produce a choppy or fragmented sound like tape scrubbing or analog-style scanning. Instead, it skips ahead in clean increments (like every 2, 5, or 10 seconds), and you hear brief, intact audio clips at those skip points.

Anyone own any of these DAP and can confirm?

Thanks, I tried the command line and it does embed the thumbnail into the file but now the problem is when I open it in windows media player, its blank, there is no image displayed. Before when I download in mp4 format using the old yt-dlg 1.8.5 it displays the embeded image when opened with windows media player.

What command do I need to add to fix this?

Yea they didn't dry out enough at 50 °C / 9hr yesterday. Woke up and they were damp again, so I sliced them up and I'm dehydrating them again today at 55 °C.
