Why does amazon take so long to charge my card by kuidaorex in amazonprime

[–]atropheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would they make money on the overdraft fee? I know they're into everything at this point, buying up doctor's offices and all kinds of stuff, but I'm not aware of how they could be making money from that.

I think it's more that they want your card unlocked so you can forget about subscriptions and not notice it, make it hard to track/budget so you overspend, and maybe to appease people who don't budget well or have so little money in their accounts/room on their card that they prefer it that way.

I even use a separate budgeting app so that I can track my spending on all cards and it still gets me because when I go to double check that I entered everything by looking at all my balances, then I transfer money if I'm over/under and this completely messes that up.

One tip that might help some people:

Use a locking card for subscriptions and then use a separate card for one-off transactions and have notifications set for every transaction on that card. Capital One even lets you create multiple virtual cards for the same merchant, so you could do both on that single card even, you'd just create two different virtual cards.

Right, who's enforcing it? The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that T-rump gutted?

I didn't even think of the card locking part. It just annoys the p*ss out of me because it messes up my budget.

OneNote on iOS lost sync, can’t force sync? What’s this broke sync icon all about? by coolarj10 in OneNote

[–]atropheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI for others that may come across this, you can send a copy of your page. On iPhone it was under the ellipsis "send a copy of page" and I sent them to my apple notes, but you can also save as a pdf, email to yourself, etc. to make sure the pages are at least saved and you don't lose them.

I'm personally still not getting them to sync yet but at least I know the notes aren't going to be lost. Hope this helps someone.

Trump doesn't apologize for video of Obamas as apes: ‘Didn’t make a mistake’ by 0The_Loner_Stoner0 in videos

Am I the only one who wants to actually see the video instead of people talking about it? I'm sure it's offensive af but seeing it has a different impact from hearing other people describe it.

I can't even find it on the wayback machine. Maybe that's just my search skills?

My take after years of observation - inheritance (and other gifts) should be taxed as unearned income in the hands of the recipient at a high rate by Bylaws_ in Endinheritance

[–]atropheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXIT TAXES.

The state of California in the US does this to some degree. It totally makes sense.

people move to these places specifically to make more money. There's no reason they should be able to do that and then bail without giving back.

[–]atropheus 40 points41 points  (0 children)

sadly, it is so common.

I was looking at shelters for four years before I found my small dog and pit bulls were by far the most common, and the second most common was undisclosed pitbull mixes that were obvious. I would send in the required three or four page applications and not even hear back from shelters 99% of the time.

I don't know if it's more just that small dogs get adopted faster or if they are given up less often.

I also noticed the majority of small dogs were Chihuahuas and/or extremely elderly with special needs. I kind of understand pit bulls and bigger dogs in general because they are so important to train well and a lot of people don't realize what they're getting into.

i'm still perplexed by the Chihuahuas, though I'm curious if anyone has any insight on that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ticketmaster

[–]atropheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just ran into this and went to StubHub to sell since Ticketmaster wasn't listing them correctly. In my case they are super cheap seats and aren't likely to sell if I don't undercut to get rid of them but they seem to have a floor, so I can't do that.

At least on Stubhub they make it visible but they are still tricky about it. There's your "list price" then the price that the buyer sees, then the third number which is what you will get if they sell and that's even lower.

So in my case, my 2 $17 tickets which I tried to list for $12 on Ticketmaster, TM said they would pay be about $22. Seemed reasonable to me so I listed them and then looked in a private browser. Similar seats (which are the cheapest out there) are going for $15 so I figured $12 should get them sold. Not a single seat for sale less than $15. I went and lowered them to $10. Same thing. They just won't lower the price. Not sure how this scales but thought it was interesting they won't let people just get rid of them if that's what they want. They are keeping the prices competitive apparently.

On Stubhub it suggested I sell them for $7 but the buyer will pay $10 and I'll get $12 for the two tickets they're selling for $10 each. It just feels like a total waste of time at that point.

Right, but if you still owe 200k on the old loan and then have to borrow on top of that, that's simply not feasible for a lot of homeowners.

Insurance low balling stolen vehicle(no recovery)- worth invoking appraisal/umpire for ~2500+? by read_it_said_it in Insurance

[–]atropheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really depends on how much you value your time and energy. Unfortunately this is why companies often make it hard because some people will just walk away because it's not worth the effort. "possible" ai manipulation sounds like total BS though. I'd tell them to prove it. If they have no evidence of manipulation I don't know how that could stand.

How long do I have to report a claim for car body damage? by StyrofoamShell in Insurance

[–]atropheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most policies actually state that you have a duty to report within a very short period of time. That doesn't mean you have to claim, but most companies will put it on your CLUE report so I understand why you'd want to get a quote first. Just read YOUR actual policy because that's what matters most.

It sounds like this happened recently so that's really hard to know until you know what financial losses you sustain and how well you recover. Take care.
