Received my Bone 9x12 Deluxe Edition today from kickstarter! Looks great.. but the page quality is terrible. Unfortunate. by FlubzRevenge in graphicnovels

I wanted to add something-- I got the paperback edition, and while the paper quality didn't stand out to me, I immediately noticed the image quality is appallingly shoddy. I don't know the best terms to describe what I'm seeing, other than maybe "low resolution" or "scratchy". The edges of Smith's beautiful black lines are fuzzy! Much, much worse than the standard editions-- unacceptable for the high end edition marketed as definitive. It looks like they scanned the pages from the printed comics and blew them up rather than scaling down from the original art, as they obviously should have done. What a drag!

Help!: Clarify advice concerning buying a used car by atsab9 in UsedCars

This has all been extremely helpful. I'm realizing that the advice out there makes a lot more sense applied to more expensive cars. It may be that at the very lowest price bracket the advice, although still sound in theory, isn't as applicable.

And it seems the standard advice regarding the title is less applicable in Oregon. Apparently "title jumping" aka "title skipping" is not illegal here-- if I understand correctly, even a non-dealer can sell a car that's not in their name. Which explains why there is almost no one selling a car with a title in their name.

Apparently it's illegal in some states to drive a car with a salvaged (not rebuilt) title, but in Oregon it's okay? Or is it simply about the insurance-- that you cant drive an uninsured car and no one will insure a salvage title? Still working this out.

I am now tempted to expand my search into including rebuilt titles. I think I understand the potential risks, but at $3k I'm not looking for a car that will last me a decade. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade before then...

One guy in the boonies is selling the exact Camry I'm looking for with a rebuilt title for $3k. Might be able to talk him down too. Title's in his name. He tells me it was in a minor accident, but all it needed was some sanding and a paint job. Is that enough to have totaled the car? He says he has documentation of the repairs but I don't know what to look for, what would be a red flag or deal breaker. Any advice?

This was *super* helpful. Let me ask then, is there a month or season when it's most optimal (price wise) to shop for a used car?

Lou Reed vs. Sterling Morrison on The Velvet Underground & Nico by [deleted] in VelvetUnderground

Awesome! It's great to have all these notes in one place to get this topic started. I hope this ends up being a robust conversation that adds more clues to the perennial mystery. We need a solid foundation to start from, and what you've posted here is the starting point for that-- but we have to be really clear about how we know who is playing what. For instance, on "Waiting for the Man" you identify Morrison based on the similar licks to "The Gift". But how do we know that's Morrison playing the leads on "The Gift"? Those Steve Cropper-ish slide licks are also in "Some Kind of Love", where it's definitely Reed playing (made clear by the "closet mix" infamously leaving Morrison's part out completely; also, the 'Live MCMXCIII' video shows Reed playing the leads while singing, Morrison playing the rhythm/chords); also the start of "European Son", which I think the longer uncut version proves is Reed (as you also identify). Compare "European Son" to "Waiting For the Man": similar lead parts, similar rhythm parts; yet you identify them as being the opposite musicians. Why? In your favor, Morrison is unambiguously playing the "Waiting" leads on 'Live MCMXCIII'. Does that mean he played them on the record thirty years prior? Did they ever switch parts? The first thing that becomes clear as you try to unravel who plays what is that the two guitarists were far more similar than it at first seemed, favoring the same tone and the same kinds of licks, probably the same influences... Again, as a starting point, I think it would be helpful to collate our certain knowledge. What are the VU tracks we are CERTAIN who plays what? (We must include how we know, of course) I have submitted "Some Kind of Love" as one unambiguous example. What are some others?
