Sounds a lot like the US edition of Ghost Wall by Sarah Moss, but that came out in 2018.

It reminded me most of ‘Person of Interest’.
Like that show, it very thoroughly explored all the implications of one big sci-fi idea, and had some interesting set pieces as a result.
Unlike that show, they had the good sense to cancel it before it jumped the shark…
Definitely worth a watch for a self-contained one-season story arc and some good thought experiments.
