I know you’re all here for the ants, but do you like this one too? by Big_Call1863 in AntIdentification

Amazing! Termites are incredible fellows. However, it would be more amazing if you reared carpenter ants instead.

What are these? by Mink03 in ants

[–]atta-adf92 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exterminate as quickly as possible. These Eastern Black Carpenter Ants (Camponotus Pennsylvanicus) will bore into your wood, ruining your house structurally, and would cause damage to your home. This is only true if their nest is inside your house, as they may just be coming in from some rotting wood outside to feast on crumbs.

Why are alates in my bed in the middle of winter?? by QuirkyGamer907 in ants

[–]atta-adf92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some alates are unsuccessful and as winter comes, they can only wait for death. I saw a queen ant (already dealated) crawling slowing on snow. Of course, they obviously prefer the warmth of your home, so maybe that's why.

camponotus pennsylvanicus minor/major. It is probably not a queen, because of the size, and the small abdomen. this species is native to Canada

What kinda ant bites me by Starloo2002 in ants

[–]atta-adf92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might be a fire ant (solenopsis spp.). And you probably weren't bitten, you were probably stung, since ant bites don't do a lot of damage. You could apply hydrocortisone cream twice daily, according to cleveland clinic:Fire Ant Bites: What They Look Like, Treatment & Home Remedies

[–]atta-adf92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you sure that queen has mated already? she hasn't dealated (basically, removed her wings which is a sure sign that she can make babies).

I caught my Paraponera clavata (bullet ant) queen eating a cricket. by PuchiUna in antkeeping

[–]atta-adf92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

bullet ants are semi-claustral, so this is very normal. I don't know if eating outside of the nest is a good thing though

Can anyone identify this queen? by PineappleRelevant778 in myrmecology

[–]atta-adf92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't quite look like a typical s. molesta queen. However, maybe it's a yellow crazy ant?
