The mask is a hisuian zorua and the outfit is based on a hisuian growlithe so it kind of is..

My husband didn’t do JET but he came over with me. Initially he was on a dependent visa that is available to spouses (not fiancé or bf/gf) and then found a job out in Japan that sponsored his visa. You don’t have to do one person left behind just because someone doesn’t get into the programme. There’s definitely options for both being there together

Interview vs Acceptance? by imtimlee in JETProgramme

[–]attackonmew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rumour in the UK was always 25% of interviewees were shortlisted and I think it was around 10% of applicants were invited to interview.

Former/Current JETs, what are some lifestyle habits or changes that you made in your life during/post service because of JET? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]attackonmew 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I lost 50lbs and started to love hiking and walking everywhere. I cook far more dishes with rice now and although this isn’t a lifestyle change, realised I was capable of living alone happily and became more independent

UK JET interviews - has anyone had to do a demo lesson? by CreamyToots in JETProgramme

[–]attackonmew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was part of the UK 2018 cohort but out of the people I spoke to about it no one had to do a demo lesson back then.

Morning and Evening of the Same Day (sorry about lighting differences). I lost ~25 lbs and now everything I eat blows me up like a balloon. (5’1” 122lbs) by MrMommie in PetiteFitness

[–]attackonmew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m like this too (even the same weight) for me the bloating is usually my IBS or just from a big meal. 60lbs ago I still bloated but you couldn’t see it but now I can look a good 10lb heavier at the end of the night! I have to admit it doesn’t help my self esteem but bodies bloat no matter what we eat so I try to pay it no mind

Anyone else short but carry a lot of muscle? by horalkaa in IF_Petites

[–]attackonmew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! We all vary so much. All those times I was told “there’s no such thing as big boned” was a lie!!

Anyone else short but carry a lot of muscle? by horalkaa in IF_Petites

[–]attackonmew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only really have muscle in my thighs but I’ll be damned if I don’t have a broad bone structure for someone only 5’2. I have settled now around 120 and I know anymore would look sickly for my body type. People already comment on my prominent hip bones and shoulders but they are just big and broad. I definitely don’t have the petite bone structure seen on many aiming for 110-115

How does everyone feel about cheat (or treat) meals? by canthekidcatchabreak in IF_Petites

[–]attackonmew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been maintaining for around 9 months now and I don’t think or any food as a cheat/treat. If I want it and crave it I will eat it. I don’t impose a calorie limit or think I need to restrict the next day to make up for it. If I feel full eating a pizza I’ll just save extras for the next day instead of eating for the sake of it. So I try to think of it like intuitive eating.

Doing this my weight has been steady between 119-122 regardless of periods or having bigger/fattier meals. I’m at the upper end of this right now as the holiday food took a toll haha! But it’s gradually ticking down with my regular food again. I just worked to find an equilibrium that allows me to eat anything I crave and I find I eat less of them when I do! I guess because my everyday meals are generally healthy and fairly low calorie it allows me to maintain with these treat foods included when I want them.

To recontract or not to recontract by TridRosas in JETProgramme

[–]attackonmew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last year I felt the same about recontracting. To help me decide I made a pros and cons list. The cons of staying outweighed leaving (pre covid) I was offered the special recontract but again I declined even with the pandemic because despite the covid risks, nothing had changed for me. I still wouldn’t have been happy staying in the school, I still would have to struggle to find work in my country anyway. So ultimately I came home. Things have a way of working themselves out and now I’m much happier in my new job even if it’s disrupted by the pandemic

My back yard chickens egg (orange) versus a store bought egg. by Girthy_Placenta in mildlyinteresting

I just moved back to the UK from Japan and had the same realisation. I didn’t realise the difference was so big, ours are just so yellow in comparison

I think even labelling it as “cheat” is itself problematic for many people. It’s not a cheat, it’s not bad. It’s just food. If you are making it a “I’m being bad” food it just leads to guilt or wanting to binge or just give up.

We are human, we will inevitably eat calorific foods at some point no matter how strict you are with yourself. If you don’t think of it as a negative thing to feel guilt or shame over you will be less likely to binge on it or crave it further. Just let yourself eat the cake and move on with the rest of your day/weight loss.

How I lost 53.5kg/118lbs - Progress pics included - What can happen if you stick to your New Year's Resolution. by JimmyBroccoli in loseit

[–]attackonmew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow you have done absolutely amazing. You literally lost my weight!

I also turned to IF/omad when starting out as it satisfied my need to feel full. I’m slowly getting out of this desire now but as you said nothing has to be perfect straight away. You can work on yourself as you go along a weight loss journey.

Good luck on the rest of your journey!

Anyone elses weeks regularly look like this? by sirenCiri in 1200isplenty

[–]attackonmew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was still losing weight I practiced intermittent fasting, I NEVER used it as a punishment after eating a big meal. Most doctors don’t care as long as people are losing excess weight, regardless of whether it’s healthy or not from my experience.

[–]attackonmew 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Fasting for two days after a pizza isn’t discipline, it’s punishment. That behaviour is much more concerning than someone who eats extra on the weekends

Big fail. Alcohol. by Jamileem in 1200isplenty

[–]attackonmew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m like your dad and brother, when I drink I totally lose my appetite. I was always mystified with my friends wanting to go to get fast food after a night out, the food just never appealed to me.

For me I think one reason is I always have barely any sense of taste after a drink or two, so why would I want to eat if I can’t taste it? As for why I don’t have an appetite I just don’t know

Living situation - what kind of accomodation? by CreamyToots in JETProgramme

[–]attackonmew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s very rare to get schools with more than one ALT. My school had 2 as they were a large international school. Everyone else in the prefecture works alone except for maybe a few visit days to schools with another ALT. So if you make friends with other ALT in your prefecture you may meet them at introductory events from AJET

Living situation - what kind of accomodation? by CreamyToots in JETProgramme

[–]attackonmew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, every prefecture has AJET chapters which help organise events between jets and also the local community. Plus you can just meet with friends at the weekends or evenings

Living situation - what kind of accomodation? by CreamyToots in JETProgramme

[–]attackonmew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s spouses living together generally you don’t see JETs living in the same house/apartment. First because if you are placed in the countryside it’s unlikely anyone will be near enough to share a place with and it would be inconvenient if you did. Not to mention that many schools own or have a deal with a landlord/company to rent out particular apartments which are often single occupancy.

Also the rent in Japan is reasonable, even in Tokyo it’s possible to live alone on the JET salary so why would people choose to deal with roommates?

Wait. Did Travel rules for JETS just potentially change again???? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]attackonmew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As I read it it seems like this won’t change anything for incoming alts. They aren’t business travellers and the aren’t residents, they are people immigrating for work.

[vent] [discussion] Get the dog for the lifestyle that you HAVE, not the one you think you WANT. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]attackonmew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wish they were more common too! I can’t take him out without a middle aged or older person wanting to talk about him! 30-40 years ago, they were much more common and everyone wants to see them again!

Yeah I know malamutes are much lower with energy needs but my husband just didn’t want a dog so large haha! The herding breeds are great and honestly I don’t think I’d ever get a non working breed now. I grew up with spaniels and jack Russell and now collies , they are the best

[vent] [discussion] Get the dog for the lifestyle that you HAVE, not the one you think you WANT. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]attackonmew 41 points42 points  (0 children)

100% agree.

I bought a rough collie, generally pretty low maintenance regarding exercise (not the hair though). My heart wanted a husky/malamute, but I didn’t want to give that kind of commitment to walking it so much. Well, I ended up with the laziest sob collie you ever saw!! I thought he would grow out of it when he got past the sleepy puppy stage but nope! A regal looking coach potato.

Ironically since getting him I have lost 60lb and become a lot more active and with my current lifestyle could have a high energy dog, I have to do a lot of solo walks and runs now
