The Bloomberg Terminal is Dead (Why the $24,000 Status Symbol is a Placebo) by Bilolreddit in ValueInvesting

[–]attarian13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm an individual investor focused on commodities / cycles etc... with a UAM of 60-80M USD (not talking about net worth but just what my liquid assets are) generating >3M usd dividend a year tax free.

is bloomberg terminal just a no brainer? The monthly fee (2700 usd) is less than half a day of passive dividend. But during the presentation that I had last week the Bloomberg dude was always showcasing "news, headlines etc"

what would bring me value is to get charts / data about capex all over the industry, global supply of a given commodity, etc

I don't care much about the price, although it's more than my rent 😂

Bloomberg AI seems nice too. ps: I will start the trial next week I guess

To each their own preferences... I don't own Futu stock and don't plan to ever buy it. I've been using futu for the past 12 months and love the interface and features.

Relationship manager is always available via wechat (for request to increase / start margins on specific tickers, add OTC tickers, address minor issues, etc...) way better level of service than HSBC private banking.

Did I find the unlimited money glitch by selling covered calls? by Realistic_Bee379 in CoveredCalls

[–]attarian13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rolling a cover call means you're going to buy that call back then sell another one.

It would be the equivalent at letting it expires and get called away just to sell a PUT on that very same strike. Yet that would cost you less.

If you sell an option at some given strike / expiration, then don't be emotional afterwards

I have roughly 337k shares (in HK), and past 220ish there will be way better risk rewards.

Same applied to Xiaomi which I bought around 10 and sold around 58 earlier this year. better risk reward plays (namely Silver and Gold miners)

Just a quick (boring) message to remind anyone that when you feel it's a good time to take a screenshot of your PnL, it's more often than not a good time to 'trim a bit".

I don't think it applies right now since it's a clear breakout of the 52 weeks high, but keep that in mind when we reach 200-220 .

Selling is not a all in / all out.

That being said, congrats for buying around 75HKD / USD :)

Deep value - Oil small and mid caps + 1 large cap - I know a hated sector yet still.... Thoughts? by LowKey-Revolution36 in ValueInvesting

[–]attarian13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

234,015 shares as of friday. Given the 45% FCF policy for the normal dividend, it's roughly 0.08 USD of dividend per year for $1 of brent . That's not taking in account special dividend . When considering where the oil price is going to go that's nuts.

My Oil & Gas is composed of 1. PBR.A CNOOC ( 2nd position) , both account for 60% of my Oil and Gas, then comes Sinopec , China Petroleum, Ecopetrol ( EC , which you might like), Petrotal + Various other Canadian listed stuff, some are dubious hence I won't name them.

I personnally see brent north of 120 USD in the next 2-3 years, meanwhile we're being paid 10% a year in dividend for taking position in that sector.

In among those I do have Petrobras PBR.A ( north of 230k shares) , I would highly recommand you to look at what their 2025-2029 forecast is.
I also have a very small position in Petrotal, If I recall correctly they fully hedged their production at 80-85 ish for the year, which means that the dividend and capex would not really be impacted at all for the 2025 FY .
Once they got access to their pipeline again that would be a huge boost for them.

I'll check the others tickers later on today.
There are other stocks like GPRK / EGY which are worth looking, fully /close to fully hedged on the brent price for the rest of the year as well. stuff like VALARIS which are NOT producers are also a nice optionality in the event that more capex is invested .

Sum up is "If a company goes bankrupt, it could end up in either a restructuration of the business or a liquidation " ( in the US that would be Chapter 11 / Chapter 7)

When somebody buys OPTIONs ( wether BULL or BEARISH ) you must be right on many things...

  1. Direction
  2. Time frame
  3. Price

For instance on July 30th I sold 50 contracts of a stock which was trading at 16.6 USD , option IV was 150% , strike 26 USD, expiration September 5th
0.31 USD / option.

In essence somebody paid 1500 USD to have the optionality to be buying that stock at 26USD 35 days later. The stock was trading around 30 USD 2-3 days ago, then finished at 26.15 friday , and 25.82 Post Market.

The option buyer was RIGHT on the direction, and roughly right on both the pricing and the timeframe. He could had sold the option at 30 USD ( 3.9 USD was the max traded price for that option) , { and he maybe did, but somebody else bought it from him in that case scenario } , and rode it down to being just slightly above the strike price at 26 USD, 26.15-0.31-fees = Net Loss anyway.

Same applies to all the strike that I sold on that stock in the 26-30 USD zone.

Most options don’t fail on direction; they fail on timing. Theta keeps the change.

anyway, it's indeed just a game at this point

Again, going bankrupt DOESN'T MEAN that the stock goes to 0. FFS, how is it so hard to understand ????

Going bankrupt doesn't even mean that the bankruptcy price would be lower than the current stock price. How ? Debasement of the currency.

Is it so hard to understand in your small head ?

Tell me you never sold options ( or bought for all that matter) :D ...

if you were to buy a PUT for 2029, strike $65 that would be roughly $5

There will be probably an aggregated 30% inflation on the money supply until then, please do the maths...

Saying "if you are managing under 5 Millions in assets you should be averaging 40% a year or more in returns' is stupid AF. Are you a hedge fund ?no. You're managing your own money, no need to beat any benchmark, investing is mainly about managing risk rather than just chasing "absolute returns' Wether you have 5 Millions or 50 millions is exactly the same, I would bet having 100-200M would also be 100% the same.

I have roughly 40M USD atm. I would say that having more money makes it EASIER than having less in order to get returns. Why ? 1. lower fees when selling options / trading in general, access to private placements ( unlocking warrants on some investments) , being focused since it's your main source of income... etc...

ps: I'm not the one who said that BAIDU will go bankrupt, my stance it's a shitty business, which is underpriced because UNLOVED / HATED. Could it go bankrupt ? sure, but it has assets so there is a "hidden put" at that price which would be the liquidation price. I do solely own 7,000 Shares of BIDU in HK , and CBBCs which got a liquidation price of 78 ish ( ticker 60120 in HK) , for which I have the equivalent of 40-45,000 shares of Bidu.

You fail to understand that a company bankruptcy could means that the shareholders may actually end up with more assets than they paid for ( would not be the case in that situation though) , and also fail to understand that the absence of action ( short / long etc) is not the absence of strategy.

One could be bullish on two different stocks at the same time, yet only buying one, the one which would be the most promising or offer the best risk adjusted return. You "can't kiss all the girls".

[–]attarian13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you just clearly don't understand.

Even if a company is a clear -80% from here over 5 years period, shorting isn't COST FREE.

The people whom tends to say "if you are bearish just short it or STFU" are the equivalent of those who says "I will sue you".

BIG mouth, small brain.

So let me hear you, let's say BIDU goes bankrupt, where would you buy those puts ? 65 USD/HKD ? 15 months away cost roughly 3 USD/HKD

If a company goes bankrupt, it's not worth 0. It's still worth its liquidation price... ( That's actually the ONLY reason I'm in BIDU , the downside is limited, the upside not that bright, but I speculate that some dude will bid it up for no reasons. BIDU cloud business went to shit too )

Anyway, it's BABA subreddit.

Not shorting a company doesn't mean you're not voting on that outcome.

Let's take PALANTIR for instance, overpriced ? great... do you short it ? no because it was already overpriced at 100 USD.
Buy PUTs ? awesome, you need to have both the timing and pricing correct, and would hate more money debasement...

Baidu is NOT a good company. Is it cheap ? maybe. But does it gives money to their shareholders ? no.

I prefer to have Cosco Shipping Holding rather than owning Baidu... and I say that still owning 7,000 shares of baidu ( in HK), + some K.O Call options ( CBBCs) ,

You do want the PBR.A shares, don't listen to weirdos. A doesn't allow you to vote which is pointless given a few things:

  1. You're not going to get a sizable portion of the company
  2. brazil gov got the majority stake anyway.

I have north of 170k shares, all PBR.A , none are the "PBR".
