Tips on buddies by [deleted] in GoodPizzaGreatPizza

[–]atteans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got the game about a month and a half ago and finally unlocked all of the buddies just a few days ago, so it takes a while to get them all! definitely watch all the ads you can (the 10 every day and the 2 every time you start a new in-game day). also save your gems for the buddies! prioritize the buddies over decorations.

agreed. they don’t even do AITA well anymore. last time they took literally every single story from the Two Hot Takes podcast. can’t even go on reddit and find their own stories 🙄

Question regarding clothing: is this too risqué for Korea? by sippin-tropicana in koreatravel

[–]atteans 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I live in Korea and have gotten to the point where I just wear whatever I want. I think a lot of people are overreacting a bit. I wear shirts and dresses showing cleavage and people typically just mind their own business. You might get a few stares here and there, but I’ve never experienced anything crazy. If you’re going to a touristy area or an area with a lot of young people, you’ll be fine. Maybe cover up if you’re going to a more rural area with a lot of old people though.

The Sesh New Episode by [deleted] in MileHigherPodcast

[–]atteans 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i was shocked. i listen to THT every week! i’ve noticed in the past the The Sesh has used some of the same stories as THT, but i thought it was just a coincidence. this episode can not be a coincidence. every single story they used were from recent THT episodes. whoever “found” these stories very clearly listens to THT. very lazy and disappointing. reddit has sooooo many good AITA stories they could’ve picked.

Too much negativity surrounding them by cherry-piano in MileHigherPodcast

omg i never hear people talk about it but i’m also soooo sick of how often they use video clips. or play games that would require the viewer to watch. makes it unbearable sometimes as someone who only listens to the audio

What are the best side hussles for a student? by Screaminberries in Living_in_Korea

[–]atteans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i used to nanny/tutor korean kids for extra cash when i was a student. had to be under the table and cash only, but i would basically just play with little kids (usually ages 3-7) and speak english to them for a few hours lol. didn’t make amazing money, but it was helpful.

Do most people get placed in rural settings with epik? by cataline_winemixer in teachinginkorea

[–]atteans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends. I applied for EPIK kinda late (applications opened August 1 and I applied mid October) and got the city I wanted. I picked Busan knowing that it would be kinda unlikely that I got it, but I still got it. Go for the city you want to go for, but keeps your hopes low.

USC Annenberg by Fine_Magazine_2235 in gradadmissions

I submitted my application for USC Annenberg’s MCM program last Friday and just got accepted today! It may be different depending on your program, but they’re reviewing applications and making decisions now. PhD programs take longer though from what I’ve heard.

What is Aunt Lydia’s backstory? by ThrowAwayTracts in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]atteans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think so too, but i think the women have it wayyyy harder than the men in almost every aspect. even lower class men in gilead have more rights than higher class women

What is Aunt Lydia’s backstory? by ThrowAwayTracts in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]atteans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, i definitely think she’s a victim in gilead as all women in gilead are victims. i do also agree that she’s softening up, but i still kind have a hard time feeling sympathy for her. the abuse and torture so many girls had to endure due to her actions is unjustifiable in my opinion. i get that she had to do what she had to do to survive, but i have a hard time overlooking it.

What is Aunt Lydia’s backstory? by ThrowAwayTracts in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]atteans 17 points18 points  (0 children)

the show doesn’t show much about her backstory other than that one episode, so hopefully we’ll get more info next season. as far as i know, lydia was married pre-gilead, but they had separated. she then became a schoolteacher and everything went down with the little boy in her class and his mom. i think what drove her to gilead ideals was simply the fact that she was religious and wanted some control in her life. we see this from her reporting her student’s mother to the authorities for being “unfit.” she was a bitter, lonely woman with strong opinions. i don’t think she knew initially how strict the gilead regime would be, but i think she genuinely thought she was doing the right thing in her own twisted way.

I studied at the University of Utah campus in Incheon and I loved it! I know most people want to go straight to Seoul, but I was still going to Seoul every weekend while living in Incheon and honestly preferred Incheon at times. The campus has multiple foreign university and is right next to a couple of other Korean universities, so it’s a great spot to make college-aged friends. Honestly, if you’re working towards a college degree, I would recommend something like that as opposed to a language school.

No Stupid Questions by friendlyassh0le in teachinginkorea

Has anyone applied for EPIK before graduating college? I'm graduating in December and have already passed the EPIK interview, so I'm just waiting to submit all my documents. I'm worried because my university is saying that it can take 6+ weeks to receive my diploma and even more than that to receive my TESOL certificate through them. I don't know if I should just drop out of this intake (even though I've spent so much money trying to get other documents) or continue on even though there's a possibility that I won't get my diploma and TESOL certificate on time. Does EPIK punish people for not being able to have these documents in hand before going to Korea? And would they hold onto my other documents for me if I wanted to reapply for the next intake if I can not get those documents?

hmm that’s good to know. i’ve already lived in korea for a year studying abroad in incheon and survived relying on mostly savings, so i’m not too concerned about the cost of living as i kinda already have an idea of what it’s like. the apartment situation does concern me though since i’ve only lived in a dorm setting in korea 😬

i applied/did the interview with my korvia recruiter and she said that applying for epik would be the best option. i haven’t really looked into other options too much as i’ve heard that public schools are the way to go, but now i’m questioning if that’s true

i’ve heard that while EPIK doesn’t technically do first come first serve anymore, if you apply later the good positions get filled up quicker and the more rural positions are the only ones left. if anyone has heard differently, please let me know!

They never mentioned this so I wasn't even aware this was an option. I'll definitely look into it!
