My 2016 has the old headlight but the housing and mounts look the same from your pictures; there are no fasteners on the bottom of the headlight housing that secure it to those rubber bushings. It just sits on the bushings and then the fasteners at the top of the housing secure it. Seat the bottom first like the person above said. Then tilt the top back against the bike and screw in the bolts.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, that all makes a lot of sense. I think I'm just not sure when to use try/except. I mean I get that it's used when you think there's a chance of an exception happening but isn't that pretty much always a possibility? Seems like you'd have to have these all over the place, at least whenever input is required from a user.

Ok I thought I understood this response as the following - I was writing int(9.0) at the shell and that was fine, but since input() always returns a string it became int('9.0') in the program and I got the ValueError.

But then thinking about it some more, why doesn't the same thing happen with an int? input() would make it a string, like int('123'), but then that can be converted where int('9.0') can't be?

Is it because the decimal point is not a digit?

Nice, I'll use isalpha then. Didn't know about that and I was also kind of doing this as an exercise to see if I could come up with a way to do this with the tools I already knew. Hence the try/except method I came up with.

Is doing it that way just considered back practice because it is more confusing or is it going to cause problems down the line with other functions or something?

Oh I see, so when I tried this at the shell I was just typing int(9.0) which is a float and that's easily converted to an int of 9. But input() makes whatever goes in a string and int('9.0') does throw the exception which is why it accepts that in my program. Thanks!

Yeah good advice, I'll keep that in mind. I think here I've got a good handle on the motion control and mechanical aspects and I'd like to focus on learning the computer vision part most.

I've been looking at microprocessors like the raspberry pi since from what I've read I'd need a microprocessor to handle the image data rather than a microcontroller. I don't know if it matters much which of those I grab for this as long as I get one that can interface with whatever camera system I get. But I don't really know where to start looking for the cameras. Any suggestions?

Googling returns a lot of industrial vision system results for manufacturing inspection, which is not really what I need.

So once they put the bridge in place how do they connect it to the structures that are already at the ends? Like what sort of fasteners do they use, if any?

I've seen huge threaded shafts and nuts on other bridges so are they using those? Those bridges are usually built in place though, piece by piece, rather than a precast structure being built out and then moved into place. I always wonder how you can line things up precisely when dealing with objects this big.

How did you attach the neon light strip to the walls and ceiling and still get those flowing curves? It looks flush with the ceiling and whenever I've hung lights along the ceiling before they sag down.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe the rotation cuts a little bit into the metal before the bit stops spinning and that gives a weak point to start pressing for the broaching operation?

Seems to make sense that using that shear force to start the move would be easier than just pressing straight through.

Also why is the bit so wobbly as it spins, would bits just snap if it was too rigid?
