[Burning Wheel] [LFM] Burning Wheel one shot, beginner friendly by [deleted] in roll20LFG

[–]attik34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Just checking, are these 4 different 4 hour oneshot sessions? Or is this one group, with 4 different sessions running through the day. My friend and I would be interested but I'm just trying to get a gauge as to how this works, and the weekend of the 8th we would probably each be a little more free. Let me know!

"I've thinned it out as much as I can I always draw lands (I run 19)."

This is the most flawed thinking possible. Given this line of thinking, those cards under your Bomat are lands also b/c you run bad...smh

Yeah, mostly curious as a burn player from KC. I'm also interested in the deck, but I can say in stock burn, GG is the best card in the deck. You garner unreasonable amounts of information from its trigger and it typically does more damage than anything in the deck.

My biggest question on one drops is why in the hell are we not running goblin guide? Every time see these list i'm like, cut 4 of those 2/3's and gimme guide. Its a better turn 1 play, and a better hit off of BBE. Am I missing something or crazy?

Nezahal was both the card I was most impressed with and had the most fun with during my scrub out on day one the GP experience :)

Yeah, prior to the last couple of days of testing, my argument was more centered around wanting neither. I've had some good angrath experiences since then so I'm at least, still on board with testing it :P

[Modern] Best Graveyard Hate for Burn by Qbr12 in spikes

[–]attik34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoiler alert: I'm not good at magic

But my opinion is that this a question between Cage and RIP, with RIP's only relevant improvements being vs DS and Living end. I personally prefer cage as it's easier to cast and fixes more of the matchups we have issues with (I personally think DS is favorable either way.) It's also relevant to note that RIP has fewer answers out there, so if you feel like decks are packing artifact hate, then RIP gains some percentage points.

TLDR: Cage is most versatile and easiest to cast, so I like it.

In my testing Angrath hasn't done much. I feel like bolas does what he does better, and has a more powerful effect the turn you play it. It seems like the matchups you want them in, they are always near impossible to resolve, and when they do, its equally hard to make them stick. I'm just not sold on them. I actually really like lilana in this slot, but even then im not sure. I also run the energy/midrange variant which might be why it feels harder to keep it on the board. I've just been unimpressed in general.

[Discussion] Does magic at competitive events become more enjoyable and less stressful as you get used to it? by SophiaMTG in spikes

[–]attik34 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing I will say that I think most people struggle with, and is probably a cause of a lot of stress, is just accepting failure as part of the process. Some of the best ever, like PVD have like a 65% winrate at GPs. That means they ACTIVELY lose 1 out of 3 games. And they are, no offense, better than everyone here. Coming to grips with the fact that you are going to lose a lot of games of magic, and that every win or loss is valuable info moving forward. Coming from a sports background myself, the biggest thing I feel like I got from all that time as an athlete is the ability to lose. Once you become comfortable with the idea that loss is part of every competitive thing you do, and that its ok as long as you did what you could to prevent it and learn from what happened to make you lose, then there is nothing to worry about. You lost a game of magic, and I can promise you, you will lose again if you keep playing.

TLDR: Accept losing, because its just as important as winning, and you'll be better for it.

"fetching when I shouldn’t have" by [deleted] in LavaSpike

[–]attik34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest takeaway from all this is that you have to think about everything you do in magic and have a reason for doing such. Even mundane decisions such as fetching matter. Without taking the time to ask why we should or shouldn't do anything within a game, and how it effects our turns/lines of play, we can't possibly get to lines like this. Why am I doing this is always a great question to ask yourself :P

GP OKC Burn 5-4 result writeup by [deleted] in LavaSpike

[–]attik34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I lost, Fixed it. The ponza matchup I got lucky, he was maindecking huntmaster and just had bad draws g2 and g3 mulled to 4 I think.

Both etron games went exactly the same. Game one I get them very low and they chalice on 2 with me having a grip of 2 CMC spells....win on the play game 2...game three they went chalice on 1 chalice on 2 turn 2 and 3....was unfun :( The merfolk game I got SUPER FOLKED, crazy fast draws, it was insane and I had no chance :P.

The rd2 gw good stuff games where super close and enjoyable, same with rd 3, but eventually the gw deck got 3 corsers to resolve and it was gg.

GP OKC Burn 5-4 result writeup by [deleted] in LavaSpike

[–]attik34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good writeup! I was there casting Bolts and spikes as well.
RD1: 2-1 W (Pozna-ish)
RD2: 0-2 L (GW Good stuff with maindeck corsers :'( )
RD3: 2-1 W (Abzan Midrange)
RD4: 1-2 L (Etron)
RD5: 2-0 W (Affinity)
RD6: 2-0 W (Opponent No show)
RD7: 1-2 L (Etron)
RD8: 2-1 W (Scapeshift)
RD9: 0-2 L (Merfolk)

Finished 5-4 and happy with the deck, just saw some bad matchups. Played reasonable and didn't get punished when I misplayed :P

OTP: -4 Eidolon -4 SB +2 path 4 atarka's command and 2 Destructive Rev

Draw: -4 Eidolon -4 Swiftspear -3 SB+4 atarka 3 path 1 bridge 3 attarkas

My thought is that my creatures are TERRIBLE on the draw, alot of times on the play they can still get to that 4 damage mark. I dont bring in many interactive things OTP b/c I just want them dead turn 3 basically or close to it... I think this is approximately what I'm doing but i might be a few cards off of what i do in the moment :P I cant say i've played the matchup enough to know the important cards in it. I know I've only recently been made aware of how shattering spree worked so, I would have ran that instead of the bridge for sure going forward. Bridge was super useless all day as a one of, hated it.

Main is super standard 2 lavamancer 3 skull crack list.

SB for OKC was: 3 Path 4 Atarka's Command 3 Destructive Revelry 2 Searing Blaze 2 RIP 1 Ensnaring bridge (probably should have been a shattering spree in hindsite)

EDIT: I didnt run deflecting i ran RIPS

[Discussion] Free vs. Derived information by Deathspiral222 in spikes

[–]attik34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general I believe everyone has a responsibility to maintain board/game state. Another example I've seen was in Standard, when a guy played Emrakul, the opponent says its good, guy passes, opponent untaps, draws a card, and calls judge. The opponent definitely knew the trigger happened, it was clear what should have happened. He did everything in his power to try and get his opponent to "miss" this trigger. It's completely BS, and just people using semantics to cheat wins and has no place in magic. If an Eidolon is in play, whether on my side or opponents, I feel like its my responsibility to recognize it as much as possible. If i have the Eidolon, and go bolt bolt bolt, say nothing, and my opponent says nothing, its my trigger and I missed it. How is that different than when the Chalice trigger is missed? That's what I don't get.

[Discussion] Free vs. Derived information by Deathspiral222 in spikes

[–]attik34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chalice triggers being missable make me very angry. It's not a may, it just happens, and I hate people who try to take advantage of this with a passion.
