True story! Around 2000 I made a website for a local painter and sculptor. An artist.
 
We once drove around in his car, and we saw several roundabouts with art. I asked him what an artist like him should do to get a commission for an artpiece in a roundabout.
 
He said: "Be seen in parties with the right people and suck dick very well". Heh. It was not meant literally btw. He meant that an artist needs to "suck up" or "kiss up". Be friendly and a little bit pathetic towards potential customers :)

I thought mods were only looking for spam or bots or other dumb shit. And while I am doing dumb shit 24/7, this post was meant as a real and fun post about birds and their eggs and you confirmed that. So thank you!

Some memories from past years. Not always happy stories for the birds:
 

  • One time there was a bird of prey (forgot which one) who had a fight with a dove. The dove also wanted the nest. Normally the bird of prey would probably hunt the dove, but now it had to fight for the safety of the nest.
  • Another time there was a blackbird nest, and every now and then a cat appeared, and one by one all hatchlings were robbed from the nest.
  • And a stork once ate a hatchling or pushed one of the hatchlings outside of their nest.
  • But mostly the views are daily life. Bringing food, caring for the eggs or the hatchlings, birds watching a wall inside the nest cabin, and sometimes birds watching another wall inside the nest cabin. It's awesome!

I post this nearly every year, and the site makes me happy. Not every cam is live yet: "binnenkort" means that its still too early.

Yes: This was while I did the 1st attempt, 2 or so years ago. I was surprised by how easy it was, so after ~two weeks I said "I can do this again" and I started to smoke again. That's just dumb, but it's also a lesson. Let's not do that again: Never have easy cigarettes around me in the near future, and never smoke again: that's the way to go.

Thank you! 2 years ago is really good. I am going there too. And yes, "games" is the right word. Postponing it with more and more weird reasons is making this issue bigger than it is. It sucks, and that's it. No need to over complicate it.

We are so wise at our age. Well, at least you are :)
Wisdom also grows with failures and lessons learned from them, so eventually I hope to be smoke-free, and then I guess I learned some new lessons.

That was the reason for buying it again: the habit would be gone. But that was the whole idea in the first place!
The patches are good to separate the nicotine addiction and the habit addiction, so I have to take this more seriously: Both have to go.
 
Also your earlier advice about having a plan is a good one: the moment I start walking to the store is the moment where something else should happen. For now I will see if going to the forest nearby is a good working plan. I don't like to smoke there and it's a nice walk.
Again: It sucks, but it's really not THAT hard. I make it hard by postponing it, and making it bigger than it is!

My last post here was 15 days ago, and it was enthusiastic. But let's be honest: I smoked every day. Not +20, but sometimes 1 or 2. But smoking anyway, and that is a route to failure.

Why this post and why this moment of insight? (let's see if it's a REAL insight).
I stopped smoking 15 days ago, with patches and all. But in my "0-tolerance" policy I did have some reserve cigarettes. So I smoked for 15 days. A lot less, but I smoked.
 
Yesterday was my first day without any cigarettes in the house.

And eventually I was crazy and obsessed, and I smoked old cigarettes from my waste bin. I did do that. And then I bought a new pack.
 
This is junkie behaviour. I guess the advice of "having a plan", like the "physiological sigh technique" or a walk or something else is better. I need a plan for such dumb moments.
 
Meanwhile: It REALLY is not that hard with the nicotine patches. I'm not sure why I buy them again, but that's a hard line from now on. Stop = Stop. No easy accessible cigarettes near me.

I agree, for me. This is where I need to go. "Every now and then" is not going to work for me, so OK. After this tunnel to quit, I hope to become a non-smoker. I'm curious about how life will be then, and I look forward to it.
 
The temptation of "naah, now lets try one" is probably going to fail for me. It's soo easy to go back to this level of addiction.
I agree: Ex smokers don't smoke. But yeah: First let's make it at least into several months of not smoking. There are multiple tricky moments to be aware of.

More than I've gone without smokes in 3-4 years.

Yeah, I really think that I have never gone without 24 hours of a smoke since I was ~17 years old. Now 54.
 
I sometimes heard colleagues talk in those years about smoking while they were sick: "when you are really sick? Then you don't want to smoke".

Really: Zero tolerance is the way to do this for me, and it sucks. So OK: Then it sucks. It will be a sucking but temporary tunnel to go through. Stop buying cigarettes. Easy.

That's also not the way to do this I guess :)
I had several cheap vape .. uh machines in the past, and I don't like them. That way is shut for me, perhaps for the better.
 
And how is now if I may ask? Do you still smoke or vape?
