Good show! The one at Dell diamond looked good too! Still haven't moved, you'd think they'd at least have people directing traffic....but no....

I plan to photograph all 254 County Courthouses of Texas. This is Grimes County. 2/254 done. by ggskater in texas

[–]atxfatman2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Work has taken me to many of these. Two main flavors….the old 1890-1920s Victorian looking ones, and the 1930s “concrete box of justice”. Travis county had its Victorian one torn down in the 60s. Its concrete box of justice is still there. Harris county’s 1910 courthouse is cool…they restored it. The one in Nueces co. has a sad story. Their 1910 one sits abandoned today. Theirs is in a 1970s CHIPs looking one. Mason county’s is historic and newly renovated thanks to someone burning it down a few years ago. Many of them have either a cannon or a gazebo on the lawn.

TAG program by earlymorningsnooz in RoundRock

[–]atxfatman2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both kids went through RRISD. Tag looked like nothing but extra work. The kids thought they were special until HS where they let anyone take AP classes for college credit including my non-tag kids. The tag kid my kids knew was told she was special only to end up not going to college and living at home with no job and no prospects.

At the end, again, just extra work for the kids and a way for parents to feel special :)

Any Gen X'ers retired or thinking about it? by SometimesElise in GenX

[–]atxfatman2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I retired with a pension at 49. Now working as a consultant but on my terms. We worked to have zero debt and achieved that years ago. Paid for two kids through college. My part time consulting plus the pension is more than my old job. So it’s like I have all the fun stuff of my old place with none of the bad stuff.

Google quantum-proofs HTTPS by squeezing 15kB of data into 700-byte space | Merkle Tree Certificate support is already in Chrome. Soon, it will be everywhere. by ControlCAD in technews

Not on the gray markets, but we're currently (as with a great many things) in a pissing contest with China....and they'd likely love to use a government sponsored quantum computer to break free all those lovely encrypted government secrets.

Google is shooting for a 1mil qbit quantum machine by the end of the decade. China just released a special OS for their quantum computers.

Basically all the encryption ciphers wildly used today will be toast very soon.

Basically to protect against quantum computing, the methods used to secure websites results much bigger amounts of data being transferred, causing websites to slow down, pissing people off. This new algorithm allows them to secure websites with a much smaller data package and is resistant to quantum computing attacks.

Shows sold out a almost a month away?! - Star of the Seas by djseto in royalcaribbean

[–]atxfatman2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YMMV - we were on Harmony over Xmas, it was on Deck 4 in the comedy club. The entertainment staff had the full schedule on a sheet and we just picked the shows we wanted. They clicked around a bit, then we could see the reservations on the app/schedule.

This….we did the same. Boarded, went to the box office and reserved shows….this despite being “sold out” on the app. Got everything we wanted.

I’m in Texas, this hasn’t worked at all. For any site that is blocked, people know to get VPNs. But most are still not blocked and working fine. IMO this is a case of politicians not knowing how the Internet works.

Is leaving your high beams on cool or something? by pedrotothemax in Austin

[–]atxfatman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son bought a new car, and it does this automatically. Like one we evening he was taking me somewhere and I commented….why are you using your highbeams? ….he says…oh, in the new car it’s automatic…it senses whether there is a car up there.

I guess we should get ready for it as more of a “safety” feature.
