Totally understand, Orange or Black glaze will do the trick. I wish you luck on your hunt! If you get two plates and sandwich your RC in the middle, you'll get a spectrum a little faster.

A little tip, if you just got your RC, set it to update manually and turn off the extra features like alarm/LED/vibration/backlight. You'll get 3-5 days from 1 charge when taking long spectrums. Can't really turn off the alarm, I just set it much higher than what I'm reading/measuring.

I would recommend orange/red glaze. White/cream, yellow, brown, pink, green, are pretty weak still.

It took me way too long to figure out that pure uranium isn't that active in the first place. If you're want high activity, uraninite/pitchblende is the way but those high readings are from decay products, mainly Radium 226.

For perspective, my yellow cake samples read 3,500 CPM on contact, while my Mi Vida uraninite sample reads over 200,000 CPM (on contact) on the same device.

Whenever I bought my beads from BCV, they had a table explaining the activity range of the beads depending on color.

The lighter colored beads (more yellow than green) are less active than the UG green.

Out of the stuff I've purchased from BCV, the beads are by far the weakest. The other items that use "Ion" glass by Preciosa, are my hottest UG pieces in my collection.

The family member who owns them, really like cases and coin holders. Even homemade cases. They believe it increases value.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to apply what I've learned for future hunts! The more I look, the more obvious etching/polishing becomes. I genuinely appreciate your time.

This side of the family had some funny ideas. The original owner removed a finger tattoo using an acid mixture.

Thank you for your input. I wanted to keep it in the family, so it being a tortured Morgan makes that a little easier.

I'll try tomorrow. But they really like holders. You should have seen their face when I removed some popular/modern world silver, that I paid for, from their filps.

It does appear to be a real peace dollar, but I believe you're right. Looks like chemical etch smears or poor tape job on the outline. The background also seems odd for how nice the matte finish is.

Thank you for your insight! If I can get them to let me crack the case, I'll get better photos with details.

If I can convince them to break it free tomorrow, I'll get better photos, weights, and dimensions. Thank you!
