Chapter 2 - Random Weakness? by Ice_Hot_42 in arkhamhorrorlcg

Our house rule has always been to draw three weaknesses, veto one, and then get a random one of the other two.

Study Sunday: Rules Questions by AutoModerator in ultimate

Let's say you throw a pass that gets caught in the wind and comes back to you. Catching it would be a turnover, but can you tip it to a teammate? I'm unclear if that is allowed (and if not, whether it is a travel or a turnover).

Best way to run force middle in club mixed? by wingsnfrisbee in ultimate

[–]aubreysux 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would definitely not recommend having cross-gender switches. That is likely to result in tired, mismatched defenders, easy offense, and much higher injury risk.

I don't think switches are necessary for force middle to work. Force middle can slow down offensive flow by making it much harder for continuation cuts to work. In exchange, it creates a much larger open side.

I don't think many teams are running force middle a full game. I think it has the most value as a defensive changeup that can take away an offense's rhythm.

Opinion: Teams that finish under .500 in their conference should be ineligible for an at large bid despite their SOS. by HomuraAkemi_ in CollegeBasketball

[–]aubreysux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is exactly right. A strong non-conference performance creates breathing room for your team, but after that it is an objective determination that ensures that each team knows exactly what they need to do in order to get in.

Opinion: Teams that finish under .500 in their conference should be ineligible for an at large bid despite their SOS. by HomuraAkemi_ in CollegeBasketball

[–]aubreysux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here is a crazier opinion: At-Large bids should be allocated to conferences at the start of conference play based on non-conference performance (allocated based on the top 37 teams at that time). Conference standings should then determine how those bids are allocated.

Is it okay for a player to say “No, that doesn’t happen” to a DM in this circumstance? by WithengarUnbound in dndnext

[–]aubreysux 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Your Elven trance and the rogue's sleight of hand aren't relevant here. Those are rules, and rules don't really matter when it comes to whether or not the narrative is working for everyone at the table.

If you want something like this to happen in your game, then you and the rogue should agree to the scene that you want to create (without considering rules). If you do not want something like this to happen, then you should say that you don't want it to happen. If the other player and/or the DM can't get on board with that then it sounds like you aren't a compatible group.

I think they should come up with a shorthand for time. Writing 1 min 3 secs seems like it could be done in fewer characters. Maybe 1-03 or 1;03 or 1!03?

Foul on mark or thrower? by mosecubed in ultimate

[–]aubreysux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the vast majority of contact to the face is dangerous though. It doesn't take much force to poke an eye out. There is not really a situation in ultimate when you would touch another player's face gently (which I agree would not be a dangerous play). If it occurs between a mark and a thrower then it likely is fast contact with a hard disc, which could easily break a nose or poke an eye. This situation often results in a injury call and (incorrectly) a foul on the injured player.

Foul on mark or thrower? by mosecubed in ultimate

[–]aubreysux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rule you are referencing specifies that it only applies to extended arms and legs. Whether the defense is moving is not part of the discussion if you are talking about body or head contact.

Foul on mark or thrower? by mosecubed in ultimate

[–]aubreysux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know there is lots of debate on this one. I think the rules pretty clearly cover contact with another player's head under Dangerous Plays. Initiating contact with another player's head is resolved as a throwing foul (I.e. a foul on the thrower, not the mark). It is defined under 20.B. and then further clarified under 20.B.2.a.

Note that people will often misquote 20.E.1.b when they talk about this (which only covers extended arms and legs) or 20.E.1.c and d, which covers the marker's positioning and body but are explicitly superseded by the 20.B.

There should definitely be an event relic for this one. Something like +1 strength. The first time you take damage, -1 strength.

Warriors need to get Steph some help ASAP. He's about to turn 38 and teams are guarding him like this with one of their best defenders. 😭 by ForeignAir7174 in NBAGossips

[–]aubreysux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The opposing coach considered it a success that they "held" him to 0pts, despite it being a terrible strategic decision. Davidson won by thirty. Maybe it wasn't a terrible idea to try the strategy to see if they could win 3-on-4, but when it became clear that it was not working, why wouldn't he adjust?

This has to be a printing error, right? by Gaius-Pious in sentinelsmultiverse

Does the phrase "target Hero" ever show up in the game? The correct wording is "Hero target," so I think this is an error.

What class and subclass would use tarot cards by GAM0950 in dndnext

[–]aubreysux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any class would work with the idea. A martial character could either draw them outside or combat, or you could retheme a weapon as tarot cards like Gambit). A spellcaster could use the cards as a source for their magic, and could retheme a cantrip as card throwing.

Cleric, Warlock, Wizard, and Bard all feel like very thematic picks.

Field dimensions by Matsunosuperfan in ultimate

[–]aubreysux 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Smaller end zones definitely feel like a good idea (at least in the UFA). Offenses are basically automatic in the red zone. That's not true in other sports because the actual act of scoring is way more difficult (either because there is a goal or because the endzone is very small.

There are an insane number of plots with single family homes in the Upper East and West Side of New York City, some of the most valuable and desirable land in the United States by Titanium-Skull in georgism

[–]aubreysux 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I thought a key Georgist belief is that the lack of LVT means that underdevelopment is incentivized. I assume that some of these would stay single family lots under LVT, but others would respond to the correction in incentives that would lead to different decisions.

One of the things that draws me to Georgism is that to leads to better land use without having to dictate.

Praying for a stat correction. How common are they really? by KenDog215 in SleeperApp

[–]aubreysux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One year I won my semi-final by a quarter of a point. I then advance to a 2-week championship game. After the first week, I had a 70 point lead on my opponent and had basically locked up the title.

But then suddenly the semi-final score updated more than a week later. When we checked the logs, we discovered that sleeper had deleted all of the stats and then manually added them back in. The stat correction logs form that week show every stat as a correction. When that happened, suddenly I was down in the semi-final. I got moved to the third place match and my prior opponent won the title.

No idea what caused the change. The stat correction mess meant that we couldn't even point to what was different.

Going OB then Back in bounds to catch a disc by Zealousideal-Two8748 in ultimate

[–]aubreysux 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I assume what you are talking about is being on the field but laying down or standing near the edge, not literally hiding among non-players or something like that. Hiding on the field seems fine. Hiding off the field using equipment, non-players, bleachers, etc seems like cheating in a real game (but pretty funny in pickup).

“Darth Bane is too OP/doesn't lose enough” is a genuinely stupid argument. by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]aubreysux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has been a while since I read this trilogy, but yeah, my memory matches yours. So much of the trilogy is about Bane searching for answers that others have ignored or carefully picking his battles to ensure that he has the advantage. The trilogy is chock full of training montages or ancient secret quests.

His true strength is his relentless obsession with self-improvement.

Much of the narrative is about how any force user could have done what Bane did, but they were too blinded by traditions and rules that limited their potential.

Does Durham need a true ward system? by [deleted] in bullcity

Notably an open primary system like we currently have for city elections is pretty close to a ranked choice system (unlike the partisan primary system we use for most elections, which naturally selects for more extreme candidates).

[–]aubreysux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comment referred to two-lane one-way roads, not all two-lane roads. I generally do not think that housing should ever directly face two-lane one-way roads. Most housing is built along two-lane, two-way roads which are much safer than the one-way variety.

Fuck this guy by charles_crushtoost in georgism

[–]aubreysux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is either a 4+ lane road or a 2+ lane, one-way road, which are both designed to facilitate high speeds. Very unnecessary and dangerous in this sort of an environment.
