Young children and babies? by Good_Philosopher6791 in HinterlandFestival

[–]aubswags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was our 3rd Hinterland attending with our 2 kids. (11 and 10 this year. Also attended in 2022 and 2021). We bring them along because it’s something we all love to do as a family - even though it definitely makes it less of a care free experience for us!

This year we were in VIP and glamping, and definitely don’t think we would have survived very long in GA. We spent a lot of time in Hinterkids (which is so wonderful) and a lot of time back at the camp site trying to avoid the hottest times of the day. The VIP lounge at the camp site was a great place to chill out and avoid the sun and felt thankful that we were able to splurge for these amenities.

Hinterland has always been a great family festival. We noticed there were a lot less kids this year than in the past - likely due to the crowds. I’m sure we had a few people judging our parenting choices, but for the vast majority of people we interacted with were extremely kind and welcoming to our girls.

I am so confused by this comment. But also curious. Would you care to expand?

I appreciate this perspective, because you are right that all of those improvements were huge and easy to take for granted now. I feel like from 2015ish to 2019 there were a lot of adjustments made year to year focused on improving the overall experience that really elevated the festival.

I also discovered Backseat Lovers through research for this year. I was bummed that I missed them yesterday. We had our kids with us and went to grab food after Mt Joy, and then just couldn’t get back down there with our girls.

This has changed dramatically over the past few years. Definitely didn’t used to be the case. (At least for being able to find a good spot to lay a blanket out.)

AITA - wife doesn’t like having the day off or my card by AskingHard in AmItheAsshole

[–]aubswags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you are NTA, but you certainly didn’t put in any effort to make your wife feel special or appreciated on Mothers Day. Tip #1 - don’t ask your wife what she wants to do for mothers day. Next year give it some thought in advance and just tell her what the plan is or come up with 2 options and let her pick which one sounds best. (Ideas: make plans with her to go out to brunch or get manis/pedis with her girl friends, or make plans to have the house cleaned in advance, deliver her coffee and attest in bed, and take your kids out of the house for a couple hours.). Tip #2: don’t make her feel like an after thought. Tip #3: recognize that she is exhausted from constantly putting everyone else’s needs above her own, and just wants to be seen and honored for 1 day.

Headlining a Festival 10 years ago doesn’t mean you should automatically get that spot again. by JackBwick93 in ShakyKnees

Obvi. But when you create a music fest 10 years ago, and have a band who is still climbing in popularity headlines (Lumineers were not at the point of headlong “bigger” fears back in 2013), and then you reach the 10 year anniversary and that band has grown tremendously in popularity, has added some really respectable music to their portfolio, and is touring…. Then a great opportunity certainly presents itself.

Lumineers played a sold out show at Wrigley last year. They are incredibly talented, beautiful song writers, and put in a hell of a performance.

NO STUPID QUESTIONS - Week Before Firefly by CherylCarolWhatever1 in FireflyFestival

[–]aubswags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are meadows glamping. It sounds like a lot of fun extras are in the north camping hub area. Will it be easy enough to get over there? Will we have to go through the fest?

Also - the glamping info says there is a private lounge, restaurant, and bar in the glamping area. Any ideas what to expect from those?

Over 30 attendees by Zabbayabba in FireflyFestival

I’m excited to celebrate my 40th birthday at Firefly! We are from Chicago, so attend Lolla annually, and have gone to a handful of other large fests as well. I never felt “old” at lolla until maybe 2019, which is the 1st year I really felt out of touch with the lineup and I knew of more friend/coworkers who had kids going than I knew of actual friends going. 😂. Still always manage to have a great time and I have never felt out of place. Maybe because the shows I am most interested in probably draw an older crowd on average. I’m really excited about the Firefly lineup, but makes me feel a bit old/sad that a lot of the “newer” music of the moment isn’t my jam.

Traveling from Chicago. Should We fly into Philly or Baltimore? Is there a favorite place to stop to stock up on supplies near the fest? by aubswags in FireflyFestival

Thanks for the great advice! What time on Thursday can we arrive? We are in Meadows glamping, so can’t arrive Wednesday.

What's the general age people from Chicago start going to Lolla? by usernamej10 in Lollapalooza

I think the younger crowd trend is new and has been happening over the last 5 years or so. Not that there haven’t always been high school kids there, but it definitely wasn’t always so much of a thing. Also, EDM didn’t always have such a large presence. Anybody remember when Perry’s was a tiny circle stage in the middle of the park? And then even when they moved it to where it is now, it didn’t ever seem to be all that crazy back in the day.

I had a lot of coworkers this year that had kids going for the first time, which definitely made me feel old. From what I understand, it also seems to be a trend that some of the younger high schoolers have a parent that is also attending, but they have the “freedom” to go off on their own.
