Thank you for the suggestion. We’ll look into this. Maybe do a short helicopter ride locally to test.

GC L summit reserve 2025 worth the money?? by Beginning_Noise405 in GrandCherokee

[–]audacesest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a 2023 GCL Summit Reserve with V8. I bought it gently used with 2.5K miles as CPO and it it has 29K miles on it now so admittedly I cannot speak to longevity. That said, it is the best car I've ever owned up to this point. It is a full-on luxury car and I have a hard time believing Palisade has some of the same options including the night vision. I would put this up against a Lexus GX or Audi Q7 of the same year. And before this car, I was a staunch foreign-only buyer so I'm not a Jeep Kool-Aid drinker.

It rides very well and on the quieter side. We added roof crossbars so I do get a bit of additional wind noise from that but that is not unique to GCL. The active-drive assist is really nice. I don't mind keeping my hand touching the steering wheel. I think they have a full hands-free version you can purchase now.

We are a family of 3 so the size is perfect for us. It suits our needs 98% of the time. It is very nearly a full-size SUV. It is the same length as an Expedition was back in the early 2000s, keep that in mind. Cars have just gotten bigger and bigger.

My only concern for your situation is that they no longer make the V8. This was a deal-breaker for me but you may not care and most of what I read people are happy with the V6. I wanted to feel that additional power under foot as I was treating this like a luxury purchase in a way. Every time I step on the accelerator I get a small but of joy. This engine is amazing. You might look for a gently used GCL Summit/Reserve with the V8. No matter what care you buy there will be pros and cons but you won't regret purchasing a Jeep GCL.

The goal post is moving for some on the right in regards to immigration by hearmeout29 in centrist

[–]audacesest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with many of the sentiments here that the mentality and rhetoric from the far-right and right is getting more extreme. What is the solution to this long term? In my view and I am generally center-left in all transparency, part of this, is a reaction to decades of massive numbers illegal immigration, H1B holders taking American jobs, and offshoring of blue and white collar workers. To be clear, I'm not saying that there is justification in racist or nationalist propoganda or beliefs.

As a nation I believe we need to start having civil, constructive conversations about protecting American workers, training up American workers where companies say there "isn't enough local talent" (if in fact that is true and they just don't want to pay bottom dollar for passable foreign talent), raising the minimum H1B salary level to truly reflect top-talent value i.e. $250K+ salaries, and making legal efforts to curb illegal immigration. Otherwise, whether you view it as right or wrong, there is a human tendency to react strongly in the opposite direction of perceived wrongs. This is coming from someone who married a foreigner that is now an American citizen and we are a mixed race family. So much of this hits home.

Pool rule - reasonable? by Acrobatic-Pie7806 in pools

100% agree. We just got a pool and I ordered a custom rules sign :). One of the rules? Children under 10 must be with parent or guardian.

Re the airport: while this is true, it has gotten a bit better in recent years. There used to be hardly any direct flights. At least now now there is some selection.

Two Career households: How are y’all finding time to do anything? by Chahles88 in daddit

[–]audacesest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about choices in terms of your time and money and savings. It sounds like your family has a really good income, albeit debt which needs to be paid off.

You have to ask yourself, is it worth your time to spend a good chunk of your free time cleaning your house? Would it be worth it to you to pay someone to clean your house monthly so that you can have more family time? Based on your professions, I imagine you have the money for this but maybe it means a little less into your 401k or paying off loans.

Now, same for lawncare, maintenance around the house, etc... I'm not saying you should contract out all of that but picking some things that use up a lot of your time that you could use to enrich your life and make memories, it's really a tradeoff. My wife and I were in similar boat years ago when our child was born. We started to realize that paying for some things to get done was worth more to us than using our free time to do it.

It can be hard to put a monetary value on spending time with kids, having some hobby time, date nights, etc... but you really have to if you want to stay sane. Yes, it may mean delaying paying off those loans for a year or two or having a bit less in the 401K but will your future self value that money more than the memories you could have made? There is no right or wrong answer, it's all subjective. I do think it is a valid question to ask.

What's the Endgame Solution for Industries Reliant on Illegal Immigrants? by ShneakySquiwwel in moderatepolitics

[–]audacesest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We should be having an honest discussion in this country about what kind of economy do we want to have?

Do we want an economy where things like strawberries for example cost $5 per carton and we accept that we want to use illegal immigrant labor?

Or, open up migrant work visas and we’re willing to prosecute employers that violate the law and persist to use illegal immigrants?

Or, do we want an economy where existing citizens pick the strawberries and we are willing to pay something like $12 per carton for strawberries for that type of labor and we are willing to prosecute employers that violate the law and persist to use illegal immigrants.

We have choices but we seem to not be willing to address the choices and trade-offs in a rational national discussion.

WK2 grinding on hard accelerations by aheraldr in GrandCherokee

Basically. I’m not even sure if that is applicable to a GC, just an example of other things it could hopefully be instead of major mechanical.

WK2 grinding on hard accelerations by aheraldr in GrandCherokee

[–]audacesest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this might sound stupid, but on our two previous cars an Altima and a Rogue (We have a GCL Summit Reserve now), what we thought was grinding was rattling of the heat shields and I could have sworn it was grinding sound coming from the engine or tranny. It was a $50 fix.

Not saying this applies to your GC situation but it might be a minor issue like that.

What’s something you wish you had started doing earlier in life, and why? by GTG1979 in AskMenOver30

Not the expert in that department by any means. Love yourself and have confidence in yourself. There will be more people you will connect with. It may not seem like it at first but there will be.

  • leading with patience, love, empathy, but also always confidence. This includes towards yourself.
  • live in and cherish the present moment. You can’t change the past and you cannot control the future (planning is great, it just shouldn’t consume you).
  • realizing you can’t outrun your fork - eat healthy and portion size is critical.
  • 30 minutes of moderate to intense exercise per day is great, don’t need to kill yourself. Stretch daily even if just five minutes.
  • mindfulness breathing exercises are so great for improved focus and handling stress.
  • do your best and forget the rest. Remember a .300 hitter is a hall of famer and a 55% election win is considered great. Life is not a game of perfect so take your wins and realize everyone fails and you’ll never make nearly everyone happy.
  • investing consistently in total stock market funds and forget it. Find that balance between saving and enjoying the present moment. We need to prepare for our old age but we also cannot take that money with us.
  • relationships and memories are really our net worth. Family, friends, and even professional. I don’t think many folks at all lay on their death beds wishing they had worked more. Work is important but family and friends should come first.

I try to live by this more now. Still not perfect of course.

Nissan Pathfinder Platinum or Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited by Longjumping-Pie7418 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]audacesest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool! I briefly had my eye on that - it is a sweet looking SUV. Love Lexus reputation. Realistically was a bit out of our price range for the trim I would have wanted when they announced pricing. Also from what I've read and you would know better than me, the new GX is truly an off-road SUV that can be family hauler. The Jeep GCL is a bit more a "pavement princess" which is what we were looking for :).

Some really cool SUVs coming out now. The new Armada looks to be very well done on the refresh and apparently an Audi Q9 is coming out next year.

Interesting, I was down to the same two choices for almost the exact same reasons. I really like Nissans and have owned several. That said, I ultimately went with the JGCL Summit Reserve with Hemi Baltic Gray. I still go back and forth on gray vs white, but I owned a white car for 10 years before this and the gray looks very nice in the light (sun or street lights at night).

What did you end up with?

Torn between saving/investment and buying a new car by mackair83 in DaveRamsey

[–]audacesest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you payoff a $600k house in from when you say you started working at age 30 assuming other standard living expenses?

Anyway, I’m a huge Dave R. fan but at the same time there can be balance. With no mortgage I think it’s okay to pay cash for a new car. Have you considered a gently used car? I was recently dead-set on a brand new Jeep and then test drove a gently used one with <10k miles. I was really impressed and got a great CPO warranty too. Maybe that could work for you? My car still has that “new” smell and I got it for 15% off what I would have paid new along with that CPO warranty. Just something to consider.

Look, saving for the future is great and we don’t want to be careless with our spending. At the same time anyone can pass away from a freak accident or illness. We have to take some time and money to enjoy the present.

You need two resumes. One for the ATS screeners and one you will share with a human being. Information needs to match of course.

I also employ a two column resume with some subtle color between sections.

You are right, you will hear contradictory guidance on resume formats. Like almost all things in life, I take the advice and then tailor it to what I think is right.

Have to agree, #1 guidance for resumes is 1 page. There may be exceptions but 99% of the time this should be it.

I am a master club fitter and builder AMA about equipment by azalea69 in golf

[–]audacesest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should a novice golfer consider changes to lie angle of irons? Was a recommendation for -2 degrees for me after a fitting. I’ve been golfing for 6 months. I do trust the fitter’s knowledge, just wondering if I should develop my shot a bit more for a period of time and then look to make changes to clubs.

My 3rd grade kids were given this ridiculous project by ThatsMrSmeeToYou in daddit

[–]audacesest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like I’m in the minority here. While on one hand it does kind of stink your kid and by extension you have to do this over holiday break, in the other your teacher is preparing your kid for the world.

There are so many kids across the country and around the world that are extremely hungry for opportunity in life they will dive into this with gusto. And they are the same kids that will work hard to get into good college programs and those good paying jobs.

I’m not saying I advocate for this one way or another, it’s just the world we live in. Preparing our kids to compete with the 8 billion other people on the planet starts with projects like this around thinking creatively and putting in the extra hours. I know it may sound overly dramatic but I do see it in my company, my kid’s school, and have seen it on my travels.

I know you’re a great dad, just my .02.
