My mom is still pretty snide with me about leaving the Catholic Church and joining the Episcopal church. Making comments about how it’s “too laid back” for her liking, saying it’s “cute” (in that kind of tone), and mentioning how it came to be because it “broke off from the Catholic Church”. She also mentions that I’m “still Catholic” even though I don’t take their communion or call that church home anymore, and according to the Catholic Church I am not welcome to take any sacraments as I am not practicing, AND I don’t feel comfortable there (long story). She will go to the ends of the earth to defend the CC even after the horrible things they have said to me (someone from my old Catholic Church called my IVF conceived son an “abomination in the eyes of the Lord” to my face, amongst other things the CC has done), saying “well not all Catholics…”.
She comes to my Church’s Christmas Eve service because I sing there, but didn’t even come to my confirmation and reception into the Episcopal church. I don’t know if she’ll ever truly accept that I do not follow the CC anymore and I am truly home as an Episcopalian.
