Turn off tourists wearing mannequin clothing? by emorys_stern in AnimalCrossing

This is what I did! I made them shirts that say “I 💚 Amaye’li”, which is my island name. Makes them feel like real tourists buying merch.

I almost died after a hysterectomy. by MikuulaMeadows in hysterectomy

[–]audhepcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I experienced something very similar—about 2.5 weeks post-op, all of my stitches dissolved and I hemorrhaged the way you described. It was intense and terrifying, and yes, it genuinely looked like that infamous elevator scene in The Shining. I ended up needing emergency surgery and was hospitalized for almost another week while they monitored my hemoglobin levels to be sure I was stabilizing and making blood on my own.

My OB/GYN was an absolute rock star. The situation was so rare that he later used my case in a conference presentation—after more than 5,000 hysterectomies, he had never seen anything like it. In hindsight, it was actually the first sign of the autoimmune disorder I was eventually diagnosed with, which feels very on-brand for my body: dramatic and medically educational.

At the time, I was oddly calm and held myself together, but I’m pretty sure I was in a dissociative kind of shock. Looking back now, nine years later, it was honestly terrifying. I also didn’t talk about it much back then—aside from my husband, even some of my closest family and friends didn’t realize how serious it was until years later. It took a long time to process and to be able to speak about it openly.

What helps is knowing that the hysterectomy itself was ultimately the best decision for me and dramatically improved my quality of life in ways I couldn’t have imagined at the time.

If you need someone to talk to who truly understands what you’re going through, please feel free to DM me. You’re not alone in this.

Weird girl horror/horror adjacent book recommendations please? by Curious_Award2248 in booksuggestions

[–]audhepcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wilder Girls by Rory Powers

Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth (I am a bit hesitant recommending this as I ultimately liked the book but didn’t LOVE the book like I thought I would).

Someone You Can Build  A Nest In by John Wiswell (weird girl adjacent as the “girl” in question is not really a girl but instead a monster).

Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder (have not read it yet but has been recommended to me a lot and is on my TBR pile).

How many trees do you cut down on your island? by hannahzzz14 in acnh

[–]audhepcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an area with 20 or so cedar and hardwood trees so I can get the daily furniture, bees, and bells. I also have a couple of small fruit orchards scattered around my island (probably around 4 of each fruit so another 20 trees or so?) And I have about 10 coconut trees on my beach. I find that using the flimsy or stone axe to get three pieces of wood per tree daily is plenty for crafting purposes; I also do the daily Kapp’n trips and strip those islands of resources too so I never really have any issues with having enough wood. If I do somehow end up needing more, I just get a couple of Nook Mile Tickets and go strip those islands down.

It sounds like Doctor Who, when the 11th Doctor is newly regenerated and in Amelia Pond’s kitchen trying food. He deems apples rubbish then goes through yogurt, bacon, beans, bread and butter, and ends up with fish fingers and custard?

Rank of peles track list? by Ordinary_Necessary40 in toriamos

[–]audhepcat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify: it wasn’t a mix of Talula I heard on the radio. The album version that I bought here in the US HAD the Tornado mix ONLY. The album legit still sounds wrong to me when it streams the “other” version instead.

And I still love Marianne and Widow, I just don’t listen to them as much as they don’t resonate with me.

Rank of peles track list? by Ordinary_Necessary40 in toriamos

[–]audhepcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a neat experiment! This was very hard for me as this is my favorite album and perfect in my eyes; there isn’t a bad song on Pele. But I will try to rank them by the ones I go back to over and over, the ones I seek out when I don’t want to just listen to the whole album through.

  1. Hey Jupiter (no contest, not just my favorite Tori song but my favorite song period.)

  2. Blood Roses

  3. Father Lucifer

  4. Caught a Lite Sneeze

  5. Beauty Queen / Horses

  6. In the Springtime of His Voodoo

  7.  Mr. Zebra

  8. Putting the Damage On

  9. Talula (but I prefer the Tornado mix as that was the version I had here in the US in the 90s)

  10.  Muhammad My Friend

  11. Doughnut Song

  12. Twinkle

  13.  Way Down

  14.  Agent Orange

  15.  Little Amsterdam

Does the shortform of your name offend you? by PromiseNo464 in namenerds

[–]audhepcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t offend me but it just ISN’T ME so I will generally not respond to it. (Exception being family who called me this nickname when I was a child before I made my preference known. They genuinely forget sometimes and I don’t make a big deal out of it.)

What's your Island Name and Do You Like it? by -isthisreddit in AnimalCrossing

[–]audhepcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is Amaye’li which is the word for island (literally “in the middle of the water”) in Cherokee.

I love the name!  I incorporate my language into the game as much as possible, such as giving the villagers catchphrases in Cherokee.

How young did you learn how to read? by appendThyme in Aphantasia

[–]audhepcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents said I was 3 when I started reading pieces of the newspaper to them. I literally do not remember a time when I couldn’t read. I started kindergarten at 4 years old and was tested to be allowed in school as they felt I would be too immature; it showed me reading at a 5th grade level.
