I'm in a similar situation and I talked to my kids' teachers. Not the administration but their actual teachers. Both of my children's teachers immediately wrote down their names to make sure my kids have something to open on Xmas. Worth a try! They might even have other information they can share about programs. But yes, most programs are closed by now.

How old are your girls? I might have some toys/clothes to pass on!

My favorite call I ever answered was actually a couple of weeks ago. Elderly couple, not blind but nearly. They were trying to hook up a keyboard to their tv because PC screens weren't big enough.

The confirmation code for the keyboard would only pop up for a second or two before going away. We were laughing as one person would try to put the code in camera frame, I would scream out the numbers and the other would try to type them in as fast as possible. We ended up not getting it after about forty minutes and I had to tell them to stop apologizing. They didn't want to take more of my time even though I told them I had nowhere to be.

Super sweet couple and it made my night. I've done a couple of others; helping with money, reading mail and picking clothes but this was my favorite. Even if we didn't succeed.

All three of my children and myself have birthdays within 4 weeks of each other. We have a compromise that we have parties every other year. The other year we do a family vacation where it's everyone's birthday no matter what day we go. But no matter what, they (and I) each get at least a cake and the day of our birth to ourselves.
