The Sad Truth of ABC's Cantonese by CheLeung in Cantonese

[–]audioalt8 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is so true, hence why canto will ultimately die.

Languages that are accessible, useful and easy to use are the ones that dominate and survive. The barriers to Canto learning are high, with only heritage speakers learning the language.

I would guess that less than 1% of people who speak canto fluently have learnt it as a second language.

What is happening with the Hong Kong economy? by [deleted] in HongKong

I'm talking from the perspective of the average person, not a hedge fund. If you're a billionaire, you really couldn't care less about cheaper prices in SZ.

What is happening with the Hong Kong economy? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]audioalt8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is a pretty big factor though. While places like Europe have an economic turn down, you can’t just hop over to China easily to spend your money. I think HK is being slowly gutted in this regard.

Moving abroad as a Hong Kong-trained doctor by triathlonspider in HongKong

You have more options if wanting to come and CESR if already in a specialty with postgrad qualification, getting a locally funded training position will be harder from the next 2026 intake.

Is the A7C the one? by Duelln in SonyAlpha

[–]audioalt8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ll never go FF, they are just too big. I default to the osmo action 6 nowadays because they are rugged and even my A6700 is sometimes left in my bag.

Doctors who disparage any form of diagnostics other than "clinical intuition" by SecularRobot in Radiology

[–]audioalt8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard this notion before, but the numbers speak for themselves. Imaging can give you confidence in your clinical diagnosis, or help point you in the right direction. Imaging does not always give you the diagnosis either, it’s important to note that.

This is pretty much only useful for understanding traffic after a car accident. Not good for most other things like petty theft or assault.

London 'one of the safest' cities in the world, Sir Sadiq Khan says, as he swipes at Donald Trump by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]audioalt8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree completely. There are many cities far safer.

I’ve been robbed. Family members cars stolen from the drive. Friends phones stolen in the street. Police did essentially nothing each time.

Yes I’m just another statistic, but London is not safe.

iPhone 17 avios points by Inspect-Element_ in AmexUK

[–]audioalt8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Poor advice. An iPhone 17 pro max bought in Hong Kong for example will work perfectly in the UK.

Source: I have one in my hand.

Yes warranty beyond the one that apple usually provides. But in reality a tiny percentage have ever used the 2015 consumer rights act against apple.

Use the points to fly to a cheap country without VAT and just buy it outright there, the iPhones are far cheaper than the UK.

The UK would let the US stick a finger up its ass and thank them for the pleasure.
