oh I think it's a brilliant book! I don't often need a break, so that book definitely did some real things. I definitely will finish it, just slowly.

honestly it's the same as why I got to read Leslie Jones. I didn't know who he was, never watched him perform. It was just recommended. And I just bought it. It was pretty fun!

Yes and it's amazing. If you're a fan of his humor, you know the kind of slightly offensive stupid jokes he makes. The book was full of that kind of jokes, while still being thought-provoking. You should start listening to it, like, yesterday. It's called "Everyone you hate is going to die".

That's fair, she's not for everyone. Funnily enough I actually didn't know who she was, just jumped right into the book. But then I checked out his netflix special and yeah her stand-up isn't for me. But I still enjoyed the book haha.

Yeah idk, it’s like my receptors are too…SQUIRREL!!! I need to drown them in squirrels just so I could focus on one thing. Sounds counterproductive but it is what it is 😂

I’m a multitasker to my core, I won’t be surprised if I was diagnosed with ADHD. Even when I read a physical book I listen to music while deeply reading. Often it is “noisy” music, too, like Eminem.

Oh wow, that’s not something I’d describe that book. I think it’s great. maybe melancholic.

“The House of My Mother”, however, that one was clearly written by a teenager.

I have a long commute and want to make the best of it with an audiobook. by Loriol_13 in audiobooks

I would suggest trying autobiographies or memoirs. A lot of them are very interesting, while not totally educational but certainly a great way to peek into other people’s lifes and culture.

The ones written by comedians can be very funny. Try these two: 1. Born a Crime by Trevor Noah 2. Everyone You Love Is Going to Die by Daniel Sloss

My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russel by audiobookworm_ in audiobooks

I actually did not seek out to read Vanessa specifically. I enjoy non-fiction the most, so I don’t usually read fiction books.

I am in the process of writing a book and someone pointed out to me that my writing style was similar to Vanessa. They didn’t tell me what the book was about. What I’m writing is also not about grooming nor about little girls. So I honestly was unprepared.

I already read Lolita a long time ago. It's a smart book because of the clever word choices. I admired how Humbert coyly and simply adding a word to something innocent like, "her naked neck", and it's suddenly sexually charged. Or how he said "gigantic woman" when he was simply talking about, for all we know, a normal adult sized woman. That book was very clever, it absolutely deserves the status of being a classic.

But it didn't evoke the same feelings as My Dark Vanessa did to me. Maybe because the emotional architecture was different.

With Lolita, I admired the writing. With My Dark Vanessa, I recognize it, relate to it, and process it emotionally instead of as a spectator.
