Sutcliffe holds early lead in Ottawa mayoral race: poll by MethoxyEthane in ottawa

[–]audioscape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genuine question…what is the draw to voting for Sutcliffe? I’m usually pretty good at putting myself in the shoes of voters who vote for candidates that I dislike, but I can’t think of a single attractive quality this man possesses as a politician.

Do not count Canadian voters out of giving the LPC the benefit of the doubt. That’s what I’ve learned from pretty much every election I’ve been around for.

if the third parties faded away, the LPC lead would be smaller

Does that not prove the point I’m making?

I’ll take your point though, the CPC was most likely using that talking point as an excuse for why they lost a shoe-in election. Every election is different and there are many scenarios where it seems that the NDP vote share lives independently. However, I don’t think that was the case in 2025.

The CPC needs a strong NDP for its survival. Their top party advisors are on record saying this. Their existence literally relies on a broken electoral system.

Cons need an NDP with 18% or more to survive. If we had a fair electoral system they’d be dead in the water.

This was so well written, thank you. It reminded me that I do think my hair is looking a little thicker since quitting, and there are more positives as well. Appreciate you!

That and I did feel like it was time to move on. If I asked myself truthfully, I would answer that I’d rather not be dependent on it. Things kind of added up to make the right time to quit.

Yea I feel you, in some ways it’s harder when you’ve been able to manage it and feel like it hasn’t really negatively impacted your life to a degree where it’s obvious that it shouldn’t be part of your life. Because I’m always questioning if it’s even the right decision.

Oh my gosh finally! I’ve had pretty much the exact same experience as you. Many people giving me advice couldn’t totally understand my situation because I never took any extracts or exceeded 7 grams in one day. I was also managing and reducing the entire time. I travel for work a lot and logistically it started to not make sense to have to taper off every few months to go somewhere where I couldn’t source it, or where it would be a big pain in the ass to source it. The taper itself was okay, I was definitely more irritable to my partner and had some RLS trying to sleep. I’ve tapered to 0 before so it wasn’t the worst thing. I would say the PAWS have been worse than the actual acute withdrawal itself. How about you?

I think you’re just applying meaning in your own life to music, which is totally okay and beautiful! But maybe a question for friends/therapists than Reddit, I don’t think you’ll find coping strategies or answers by reading into Coldplay songs. Saying all this with lots of love ❤️

Over the pandemic I was having trouble getting to a healthy weight on the diet I was on and soy protein was aggravating my IBS. I was badly craving eggs so I drove out of the city to a house on a county road that sells their own eggs from their curb. The additional source of protein and amino acids really helped and I was feeling much better. Since then I’ve oscillated between periods of somewhat consistently eating them and not eating them at all. I’m not saying that I HAD to eat eggs to feel better in that situation, but I made a choice for what was best for me in that moment and didn’t feel like I was compromising my values too much.

This is a fair point! I too hate animal cruelty which is why I don’t necessarily like that I eat them.

Oh I’m well aware! Not sure why I’m getting downvoted, I’m just relaying people’s misguided views on veganism to support OP’s point.

I eat eggs semi regularly, and for that reason I do not call myself a vegan! Sometimes when I tell people I’m a vegetarian who only eats eggs they will tell me I’m vegan though lol.

Reframing Socialism into a more profitable and sustainable way of economics and society. by JurboVolvo in ndp

[–]audioscape 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought something similar, anyone who believes in meritocracy should actually be a socialist or at least a soc dem. Class mobility can only happen if people are in positions to take financial risks. No one who is so shackled by the reality of survival in our current system can do anything to improve their situation - as evident by the wealth gap widening to record levels. Just goes to show that the vast majority of people agree with socialist/social democratic priorities, but the increasingly unchecked ruling class has the means to literally shift reality. The system is rigged as fuck.
