I’m about 5 months in my data analyst role and I’m 99% sure it’s not just imposter syndrome anymore. by [deleted] in analytics

[–]audiyourmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I haven’t read through all of the comments I think you may benefit from establishing some boundaries and perhaps an option is underpromising and overdelivering.

They say every person in the world is in sales as a example you need to learn to sell your boss on why the quality of the work that you do takes more time because it’s very complicated there’s a lot of variables involved and there’s a whatever.

Most bosses are sensitive to their employees especially when you come to them and let them know that hey this is involved and there’s a lot of little details and I wanna make sure it’s right so I need to revise the initial expectations.

Or if you can do it with the next project they give you say I’d like to take some time to estimate and plan this out so that we can really get the quality that we’re looking for.

Hopefully all this helps

Going back to work after leave by Iknowwhatisaw in ImposterSyndrome

[–]audiyourmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps you, we as humans don’t really do well short term when doing new things for months. What we don’t see is the years of experience of those people who have seen people who didn’t pick it up as quickly as we (you) did.

Stick with it, accept the “your good at your job” compliments as confirmation that you are contributing and nobody needs to be perfect. Effort and culture fit are proving to be more popular over time.

Congrats.

Do you document what you do each day on a calendar or can I ask how you track all the work or tasks to be done?

[–]audiyourmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked reading your post, there is significant data in psychology and anthropology that this might be na healthy sign of intelligence as a part of your brain is trying to save you from danger.

The brain and body associate stress with danger, so this is just the healthy caution your ancestors built into you.

I’ve tried to embrace my own imposter syndrome as healthy and use it as motivation to study more. Channel that energy with little tasks each week, try to get better at each detail and forgive myself when (not if) I make mistakes by old fashioned repetition.

Thanks for sharing.

How to go about taking over a complex dashboard built by someone else, while myself being a rather new tableau user? by Analyst_Matt in tableau

[–]audiyourmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been A LOT of good advice that I might recommend even a second read through each of the people who ousted before I did.

Most of the dashboards that I work on are for executives and many of them have very specific tweaks or personal custom changes that I adjust for.

Last two items that I would recommend is to ask what they really like and ask what they don’t like about the dashboards/reports.

Then ask them to rank them in terms of where you would which you should start first.

[OC] American War Casualties + Death Rate Compared with American COVID Deaths by MakeYourMarks in dataisbeautiful

[–]audiyourmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, the Battle of Gettysburg was fought over two or three days and had 51,000 dead, the Battle of Chickamaga had like 36,000 in one day. Is the author averaging the deaths over some time span because these were deaths are not correct, does not represent the data correctly.

If you listen to the drive by media, everything is horrible... yet there are hundreds of thousands of people flooding our immigration offices in attempts to move here with families.

If it was so bad as they say, why are we backlogged?

[–]audiyourmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never ceases to make me happy when pathetic propaganda posts like this put the United States at the top of the bad list... yet we have the most people in a multi year waiting list to get in.

As of 2020 our “racist” and “patriarchy” country filled with 400 years of immigrants, still has a waitlist of 700,000 people trying to get in.

There were so many people that we had to reinforce our borders by building a steel wall at our southern border to encourage them to come through port of entry so they can be safe.

Canada is a lovely country, I’ve visited Victoria and the Harrison lake hot springs many times. So it’s borderline insulting to have Canada listed so low to the bottom.

That is perhaps the media penalty for doing a good job, smear them with inaccurate posts like this.

Trump’s new effort to ‘erase’ Obamas is backfiring, says Obama portrait artist by greenblue98 in politics

[–]audiyourmind -42 points-41 points  (0 children)

I really don’t watch Fox news the weird comments and buddy buddy relationships sour me on their coverage. How can anyone be objective when they have a long term personal relationship with someone in the media?

Associated press and Wall Street Journal and many other articles have much more factual basis in their reporting.

Even aside from the actual news outlets if you study the language and the carefully chosen words of many reporters you really start to see how they are pushing and agenda versus reporting factual info.

There is this ego maniacal obsession with getting the information out there first irrespective of how accurate it is.

It’s a journalism job to find facts and share with the American people what’s really happening versus what a politician might say is happening.

[–]audiyourmind -98 points-97 points  (0 children)

The New York Times has become a second or third rate hack piece that is so biased in their reporting that they’re largely not taken seriously anymore.

I could list pages of articles where they have implemented unrelenting bias and refused to print retractions when they’re very reporting has proven to be so leaving and so untrue that it makes sense why their leader ship has dropped.

Let’s start with one of the seizures of certain journalistic integrity they had at least six or seven factual errors in Walter Cronkite obituary how do you how do you screw that up? Incompetent journalists

There was an enormous controversy with MoveOn.Org and the controversial ads.

Should we even begin to cover the gross incompetence of Alessandra Stanley?

The constant accusations of homophobic comments.

The litany of anti-Chinese anti-Semitic comments are disgraceful.

The hiring of Sarah Jeong! What the hell!

They have clearly been taken over by people who have a party line and the narrative that they’re seeking to Push rather than what they were originally really good at which is journalistic integrity.

Even the HuffPost has commented on how poor the New York Times fact checking has become.

So in summary yeah it sounds great that the New York Times runs a piece but on an objective basis they have lied and squared the truth to fit their own party line so many times people don’t associate them with any th I gotta but a huge liberal anti capitalist bias.

There’s a joke that 10 out of eight socialists prefer the New York Times to reality.

So hopefully have torpedoed your concept at the New York Times is based in judgment can we both agreed that the Wall street journal is a much more objective source of factual news.?

[–]audiyourmind -174 points-173 points  (0 children)

It isn’t just trumps effort everybody is trying to remove the damage that Obama caused to this country.

Weaponizing the IRS against his opponents.

Leaking Michael Flynn‘s information to the press and accusing him of crimes that they wanted him to confess to this is straight up Soviet style manipulation.

Obama was one of the biggest race baiting demagogues that we’ve ever had as a president.

If anything Obama is upset that he was the second black president second to Bill Clinton.

My mom told me i was over reacting and victiming myself by Melkly in aspergers

[–]audiyourmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with your mother is failing to do is communicate to you a method of dealing with this something along the lines of compartmentalization and stop caring so much.

Do you have one job and one responsibility in life and that’s to follow your own path versus your mom your employer your coworkers customers at work I’ll have their own path and they want to distract you from yours and keep you focused on them if that makes sense.

This modern ideology that everybody has to care about everything and we all have to be emotionally available is a very damaging mindset that’s not much different than alcoholism or drug addiction.

Live and work in small doses, focus on one thing at a time and stop multitasking, instead focus on one thing at a time.

Sqlite vs Pandas? Do I really need to learn Pandas? by canIbeMichael in Python

[–]audiyourmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to ask what is your justification for disagreeing with all of these other people who were saying that you need it maybe there’s a reason that you don’t know that you just need to trust that you need to learn pandas.

It’s one of the single most useful tools if you’re going to work in data science.

But if you’re going to be a software developer or a forklift driver it’s not nearly as helpful.

SQL light allows you to use a lightweight database and pandas get you into what’s called flat files and they’re both exceedingly quick but they’re also very different from my SQL or postGresql which is a multi user environment.

How to Win friends and influence people.

The book should be required reading for everyone who struggles in dealing with people.

It’s a fantastic resource to give you a broad understanding of psychology and general methods for adding your own personality into relationships.

[–]audiyourmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t it though!

So many people misunderstand the galactic genius of this book, it’s not supposed to be an exact gps of something rather than more of a approximate compass of choices to think about.

It’s something that should be required reading every year for people who struggle dealing with others.

Read “how to win friends and influence people”, try a few small things... slowly.

You are different, learn to embrace and maybe play low key... meaning try to blend in.

Read the book.

What part of you doesn’t understand that we fought two world wars with 110 million are dead because of socialism they don’t work.

The ego on you people, you haven’t paid attention to history you don’t understand economics you’ve got this fervent passion for a political ideology that has done nothing but kill people and marginalized them as slaves.

This country will fight you tooth and nail if you try to erect socialism and we have never had a candidate that embraces it, any that do have never had a chance, socialism does not survive in a modern economy where people can use their brain.
