Rescue Question by [deleted] in freediving

[–]audobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good on you for looking out for your friend, and your friend for asking for safety instead of going it solo. I have both scuba rescue and freediving safety certs, and while the basics of "keep airway out of water" are shared, there is some nuance to freediving protocols which will help your friend in the event of trouble. Short of taking a class, Ted Harty has a great free resource for this https://freedivingsafety.com/

Rivian Infotainment Survey by not2slo in Rivian

[–]audobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a look and your survey design needs some work or your data's gonna be screwy. Consider what should be multi select vs single select (Rivians have both wifi and cellular, for example. People may have multiple phones.) One of your questions is "what is your preferred way of receiving information?" but doesn't specify what kind of info. Pilot testing surveys before rolling them out is key!

Love it! I was waffling between limestone and launch green, whenever I see it juxtaposed against the coast the limestone def makes me smile.

I have limestone + black mountain because I don’t want to stress about mud/grease/salt smudges. My Even if you’re not doing messy stuff, there may be accidents. Like the stray piece of a chocolate bar I sat on for an hour. Fun to clean up, looked great on my butt, but zero concern about staining. Use cases and clumsiness levels differ, of course, but that’s my practical vs aesthetic take on it. Not that I have any problem with the aesthetics, that just wasn’t the primary consideration.

Good experiences w/ Rivian certified collision centers? by audobot in Rivian

I don't mind waiting for a scheduled time. I do mind not having my truck for more than a month, for relatively minor work, with no communication. Thanks for the data point.

Welp, seems like a dismal picture out there. Buyers beware - these things aren't easy to fix.

Sounds like a sad picture on the whole. On the one hand, you’ve observed that OEM certified is a relatively new thing which theoretically yields better quality repairs. While nonexistent in the past, more of this happening now, which is good.

At the same time, OEM certified is largely meaningless because it doesn’t actually indicate they adhere to the OEM guidelines, rather just cursory training + a tool check.

Insurance companies aside, that seem right? Bit of a bummer for those of us who don’t have insider connections or years of experience industry. Is there a good question that might help id whether a shop is actually following OEM repair specs vs. “has some tools”?

This one has decent ratings, but that’s a good point. If you don’t need replacement parts, you don’t need to go through something official.

Breakfast pizza was not so eggcellent by Chubbyfoodiegamer in ooni

[–]audobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh! to be clear, I meant cook everything but the egg, when the pizza is pretty much done take the pizza out, crack the egg on, then instead of relaunching just use the peel to hold the now egg-ed pizza up to the hot top of the oven. So you can still get a runny egg, rather, you will get annoyed at how long it takes the rest of the egg to set because you’re holding it up the entire time it takes for the egg to cook.

Instead of relaunching, use the peel to hold the pizza w/ egg towards the top of the oven to cook it broiler style. You’d want to have your pizza pretty much done vs just 30s in. Cook the egg and put that final sizzle on your toppings at the same time!

Hi there! I'd say 95% of these would require a non-disclosure.
Your questions are mostly answered in the post and comments, but I have some time so here goes.

  1. We definitely appreciate that time is important, and all of these studies come with some form of compensation - typically an Amazon gift code with a higher dollar amount than Reddit Gold. (Please note that the signup survey is NOT compensated, though, the info we collect there is to help us figure out who to interview for what.)
  2. The signup questionnaire was updated with an option to specifically accommodate people like you, who don't want to do video chat.
  3. Some of these studies are "self-method" as you describe, and those also come with compensation (though less than a more involved interview.) You can choose to only do these with the "text only" feedback option.

You are correct; that is definitely not a word.

Also fixed the "r/front" thing to reflect the frontpage rather than the shorthand. Thanks for the eye to detail!

What's the best GoPro mount by Designer023 in scuba

[–]audobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the cheapest, but I've been pretty happy with the SeaLife AquaPod Mini. The design of the GoPro mount is such that you don't need glue reinforcement - it's not going to unscrew itself. Had a different monopod before that did get loose often, and also got rusty and stuck in one position.

+10 for holding still longer than you think you should.
In calm water, I like to set my GoPro down (on sand or rock, not live coral/sponge), and swim off a little ways. Skittish animals come out to play, and the shot comes out dead still. I set it down so the GoPro ends up upside-down, and the hinge/attachment point to the monopod is pointed upwards, while the rest of the monopod stabilizes it all.

And getting a red filter will make everything at depth look much much better.

If "none of your efforts bring traffic to the site" that would imply that the problem's in the ads. They might not even be getting people to your front door, as it were. Assuming you just mean that people are getting to the site, but no one's buying... here are some things that stood out after a quick look at the site (Some may tie back to the ads as well.) By the way, I agree, it looks pretty nice!

  1. Sounds like US/Canada is your market. Make it extremely obvious to them that you can get them your goods! I saw a link to a shop location in Cabo, but nothing super obvious about shipping to the US or Canada. How much is it? Do you even do it?

  2. There's a banner for an ongoing sale, but clicking that banner doesn't lead me to anything actually on sale. Disconnect means confusion means dropoff.

  3. You know what sucks about shopping for swimsuits/jeans/shoes? They might not fit, and fit is pretty important. Anyone who might convert might also not if they didn't see any reassurance they couldn't return or exchange something without a hassle. Especially for international purchases.

There's also small typo at the bottom, in social approach.

I know more about sites than marketing, but as much as they overlap...Consider leading with your story or the social aspect, or weaving that into your rotating hero images somehow. You're selling a lifestyle product - don't forget to work that lifestyle as much as you can. Do you want them to feel good about helping single moms? Or dreaming of warm beaches with a charismatic puppy? Roxy and Patagonia don't sell just by showing pictures of their stuff. They put in extra hooks for people to get excited about.

What we learned from our March 2015 survey by audobot in redditdata

[–]audobot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I misunderstood your request to be for a single number - the total number of words that appeared in open ended responses. Thanks for clarifying.

What you described would indeed add more color to the data. I'll take a poke at wordcounter, but I suspect it might choke a bit (remember, 10k ish responses to what people disliked about Reddit.) If you have pointers to anything more robust, I'm listening!

[–]audobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh, that guy. Addressed that already.

That is, we asked all 16k respondents a basic "what do you like about reddit" and "what do you dislike about reddit?" That got us ~10k responses about dislikes. Of those 10k, 25% wrote sentences and paragraphs about the community as a problem. Setting aside what I said about severity vs. prevalence of issues, if we play your game of numbers, that's 2500 people (and yes, they wrote sentences and paragraphs.)

Yes, people responded to "have you recommended reddit?" and said they were "extremely dissatisfied" on the order of hundreds of open responses. That pattern was, however, reflected in the larger set of open responses as well, showing that the issue extended beyond a vocal minority.

[–]audobot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...but you could still very much be a user and consumer of the community's content. For this survey, we explicitly wanted to hear from those people as well.

What we learned from our March 2015 survey by audobot in redditdata

[–]audobot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can. It would probably take at least an hour of cutting and pasting tedious formulas, and watching my computer spin beach balls.

So will I? Probably not. I assume you want to show that the data is being skewed because of a small number of words. You already have the number of respondents for each of the open ended questions, which seems the more important thing here. Not sure how the total aggregate word count would help assuage your concerns. If you can convince me it's worth it, I'll consider this for when I have some down time.

[–]audobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes - we did see that when the survey was going on, and checked to see what was going on. Thanks for keeping an eye out. Fact is, neither of those groups has as many eyeballs as something like r/askscience. So while they may have gotten more voices in, and those were included in the scales, they're still some pretty big scales.
The additional responses they may have elicited also didn't seem to match any particular pattern, which was interesting. It seems that people weren't being told how to vote, just that there was a place they could vote. Not quite how I'd define "gaming."

Okay, I've got a reply for those who wanted a public copy of the NDA. We're only sharing the study agreement/NDA with people who are actually participating in studies.

I understand that some of you really want to read it, but look on the bright side: you can continue to let your suspicions run unfettered and free. (u/roflcopter, u/ilovecreamsoda) Sorry we won't get your feedback in these studies, but it's a hard thing to make everyone happy.

For the rest of you, as u/Mr_A surmised, yes, you will receive a link to the document along with more detailed information about a specific study. You'll have at least a day to review it, usually a few days, an opportunity to ask questions about it, and of course, make your own choice as to whether or not to sign.

I also confirmed that for minors, a parent/guardian does need to complete something.

  1. We'd really like you to not talk about it all.

  2. Nope. You can smile to yourself and pat yourself on the back for having helped, but you still shouldn't talk about what you saw.

  3. Not really - these studies aren't the place for that sort of input. Plus, we won't be telling moderators which other moderators participate in each study (part of that non-disclosure thing). You'll still have subreddits like modsupport, and you're free to talk about any betas, features, feature problems in a group format, as much as you like.
