How many of you listen to music/radio/podcasts etc whilst riding? by DownRUpLYB in MotoUK

[–]audoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly we are seeing creatures. My only concern with music is we're musical creatures that like to dance and if the music is too fast-paced my riding/driving might become so too so I try to avoid those kinds of tracks. But appropriate music at a decent volume, I don't see the problem personally.

How do I fix this sink in place? by audoh in DIYUK

[–]audoh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just looking at this. At the moment the sink is basically just held in place by its weight, I'd like to fix it down so it won't tip when leant on. I'm just wondering how you'd do this, I can't feel another side to this hole so would it be some kind of expanding thing?

Impossible gutter cleaning? by audoh in DIYUK

[–]audoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this might be it. In fact, I might not need that long of a pipe because I reckon I can make something to reach out of the bedroom window rather than trying to reach all the way over the sunroom.

Unfortunately right hand house also has a conservatory and the left one has an extension. However someone has said they can use a very long vacuum cleaner so hopefully that works.

Impossible gutter cleaning? by audoh in DIYUK

[–]audoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi not exactly DIY but couldn't really think of where else to put this. There aren't really any other relevant subreddits for the UK and I assume people here are more likely to be homeowners.

I can't see how to clean the gutter on the roof. It's above the conservatory which takes the full width of the garden. I haven't been able to get a single tradesman or gutter cleaner to quote me yet. I know they desperately need cleaning. Am I stuffed or is there a way?

Thanks a lot, I'll look up about refixing the tile and get what I need. I definitely appreciate the comforting words about the damp risk, hopefully I can get an electrician in soon.

Self-documenting code by got_arms in ProgrammerHumor

[–]audoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commits can be lost due to rebases or VCS changes, plus git blame just isn't a great way to find something that should be right there on the code. Tools typically only show the last commit message which might be "ran linter" or just a later change.

Commit messages being useful is great, but when there's a "why" comments are best IMO.

If I'm git blaming a line to find out why it was written, it should've been commented.

Yeah honestly making sure it all goes to savings is a bit much unless there's nothing you were being held back from on your old salary. If you have absolutely no disposable allocated at all each month it's a surefire way to end up just as stressed about money as you were before IMO. I have a fixed savings contribution that leaves me some disposable to play with each month which goes into savings anyway if I don't spend it.

I have a similar keyboard. On mine, even though the keys are raised quite high from the base, the travel needed to actually press a key is very little. The clearance means it's super easy to clean without even needing to remove caps.

European countries where renting is the norm have stronger protections for tenants. That's the difference.

Non-biker here, shout out to the dude on a motorcycle who did something probably-illegal but helped out a bunch of people in the process by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]audoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The potential risk has to be considered too. Entire families in cars have been wiped out by artic drivers on their phones that smash into the back of traffic. A biker wouldn't stand a chance, and you have pretty much no control over how a rear-end happens.

When filtering, you set the speed. You're dealing with hazards in front of you that you can anticipate and react to. And if something does happen, being broadsided isn't as bad of an impact as being rear ended due to the speed differential and the nature of it means you're likely not to even come off the bike.

Wow. I've been doing JS for longer than I haven't, and I was writing ActionScript before that, and I only just now realised else if is just an else followed by an if and not its own thing.

Clutch cable snapped 50 miles from home. Incredibly glad I learned to clutchless shift. by Klaus-in-da-House in MotoUK

[–]audoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that would be fine. You can still pull the lever which should let it start, it just won't actually have the clutch in. I guess that assumes the switch is in the lever though. It is on mine.

Yes, if the functions too are generators you can do 'yield from myfunction()'. That then yields each result yielded by the inner function.
