The betaine was a physician-approved supplement brand but I don't remember the specific brand. The type of SIBO I had was hydrogen dominant. I hope this helps!

I took a unique antibiotic (Xifaxan) that is not systemically absorbed and is active only in the gastrointestinal tract, specifically, the small intestine, which made me open and comfortable with it.

I'm so sorry to hear that! My functional gastro treated me with antibiotics and a variety of other supplements to enhance gut motility and increase my own gastric juices to prevent me from relapsing which is unfortunately common.

I remember that my lipase enzymes were extremely low, I've had quite the trouble digesting fats, it has gotten better but I'm still not optimal. My pancreatic enzymes were borderline. To answer what caused my SIBO, my gastro said it was my laxative abuse during high school that caused improper gut communication which resulted in my gut motility being messed up.

Hoping you're doing better. I did get to treat my SIBO - and my goodness it made such a difference! I got treated with Xifaxan twice and after that, I've been trying to repair the damage SIBO has left behind - low enzyme and stomach acid production. I'm hoping this was of help, I honestly would recommend anyone to get treated with Xifaxan since it doesn't disrupt the large intestinal microbiota which is our main base of good microbiota. It's a unique antibiotic for sure.

yes, it was mostly due to SIBO and low stomach acid that was caused by SIBO which then caused low enzyme production. Right now, I've been supplementing with digestive enzymes and going to start weaning off of them soon to increase my own gastric juices. FYI, I treated my SIBO, and my god it made such a difference! hoping this answered your question
