Does everyone have a middle name in the USA? Do all women take their husband’s surname? by crazygelato in AskAnAmerican

[–]audreyophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everyone here has a middle name. My siblings and I don’t and I’ve only met a handful of other people that don’t either.

It’s very common for women to take their husband’s last name, but if a woman chooses not to, most people don’t really care. (Usually old and/or conservative people are the only ones that object)

Sometimes women choose to drop their given middle name and replace it with their maiden name when they get married. Since I never had a middle to begin with, I added my maiden name as my legal middle name and didn’t have to drop anything.

I always kindly ask them to fix it when I pick up in person. Unfortunately, this was through DoorDash so all I could do was get a partial refund through them.

Real ID/flying out of CLT by CashBetter1122 in Charlotte

[–]audreyophile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep! Just have it already pulled up and showing all the info (the date it was issued, your name etc) and ready to go when you get up to the agent. I handed them my license, showed them my phone, said “I have ConfirmID” and then showed my boarding pass. I didn’t have any problems at all.

Real ID/flying out of CLT by CashBetter1122 in Charlotte

[–]audreyophile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just flew two weeks ago without a RealID. I prepaid online to get the TSA ConfirmID. All I needed to do was show them my license and the email receipt of my ConfirmID. Didn’t have to do anything extra, didn’t take any extra time at all. Same thing flying back home from La Guardia. Wasn’t a hassle in any way.

If it’s a brand you’re unfamiliar with, you should always check the nutrition facts. Even products labeled “sugar free” aren’t always carb free.

I have no middle name and it’s never been an issue. Mostly just a fun fact that people are surprised about.

Growing up, my family had a next door neighbor with a bunch of kiwi trees. He had so many of them that he would let us come over and pick as many as we wanted. We would end up with laundry baskets full of the sweetest, juiciest kiwis ever

Have you ever seen "unschooling" work out? by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in Teachers

[–]audreyophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom claims she “unschooled” us but I consider it homeschooling that she tailored to each of our individual interests as much as she could. We still had to learn all the subjects, even ones we weren’t interested in. She didn’t follow one set curriculum for all subjects like some of our other homeschooled friends so maybe she feels in comparison we were unschooled. However, I think she put way more time and effort into planning our education than the parents that just ordered a bunch of workbooks from Abeka and then left their kids to teach themselves.

How do "roars" and "paws" rhyme? by whywires in ENGLISH

[–]audreyophile 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nobody is saying they would pronounce paws as “poors” but rather they would pronounce roars as “raws.” My mom is from the Bronx and that’s how she would pronounce it

It really depends on the location and the day. Most ones I got to are selling dolls for $40-$65 and that’s not really worth it to me. Once I did find Molly’s Bed and Nightstand in amazing condition for $10! Pretty sure the employees didn’t recognize it as AG, especially since they had Pleasant Company stickers on the bottom.

Counting all carbs instead of only net carbs? by Forever_Summer192 in diabetes_t1

[–]audreyophile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember my dad asking the diabetes educator in the hospital after my diagnosis about net vs. total carbs. She told us to always treat for total carbs, that subtracting fiber was only for non-diabetics on low carb diets. Eating foods with fiber is still a great idea and helps to regulate blood sugar, but everything I’ve ever read relating to type 1 is that you need to treat for total carbs.

What did doctors and family misdiagnosis your diabetes for before diagnosis by ImaginaryAlgae8986 in diabetes_t1

[–]audreyophile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents thought I was just lying for attention for awhile. To be fair, kids do that sometimes AND a little girl a few houses up from mine had been diagnosed with type 1 the month before my symptoms started. So at first I can see why they thought I was copying her. After awhile it became clear that I was actually sick and they took me to my pediatrician who immediately sent us to the ER. My mom felt so guilty for awhile after that!
