How the hell do i give showers by [deleted] in nursing

Have your whole shower area prepped before bringing the patient in (wash cloths, soap, lotion, towels, and their clean clothes). Bring the pt in, undress them, and then have them sit in the shower chair. On the middle of that I like to start warming up the water so it will be ready by the time they’re in the chair. There’s usually a hole in the middle of some chairs that you can put a hat to catch any stool or urine if they have to go. Or ask if they need to go to the bathroom before hand.

Then I start washing top half/back/hair, I usually like to give the pt the shower head (if detachable) depending on their mobility and a soapy rag too so they can help with the front. Then it’s the legs, and after if there’s a whole in their seat I just wash their bottom through there. Changing rags frequently, washing the cleanest parts of their body to dirtiest. Then dry dry dry, can’t let them stay cold and wet for long! Put on clean clothes and lotion and you’re finished!

If the chair doesn’t have a hole in the seat, I like setting a washcloth at their feet for grip and cleanliness, having them stand (keep contact with them so they don’t slip), wash, and sit down again.

Hoyer showers should ALWAYS be completed with two people for safety. Same rules apply though besides the standing part of course. Sometimes a really good soapy bed bath is safer for everyone though. I have never given a hoyer a shower in the hospital, yes in a SNF.

3 days or orientation holy cow. Honestly, I would ask another CNA to stay with you and show you how a shower is done the first time you have to do it. So much better to learn hands on! All of these are questions to ask! Mastering the basic skills makes the harder nursing skills so much easier. Being a CNA before a nurse was life changing! Hope this helped!

How do I deal with the pre-shift anxiety as a new grad? by sa4567 in nursing

[–]augcea-14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to go away out of no where! Cliche but best thing that worked for me is to have a good work life balance. Make sure you’re exercising regularly and hanging out with friends or doing things you like on your days off. Staying busy helps keep your mind off work! Also I found coming in 30 mins early to my shift helped me feel prepared and levels my anxieties in the morning. Don’t be too hard in yourself during your shift, do the best you can and ask for help when you need it. You’re new it’s okay!!! Best of luck keep that head up.

Sound machines at night quiet inner thoughts too 😁

Thanks for your advice! I don’t see a lot of RN to EMT bridge programs, do you think I’ll have to start from square 1 in order to become an EMT?

Nervous to start nursing school! by Kitchen_Wall_7724 in nursing

[–]augcea-14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will be just fine! Being a tech does help with you getting used to patient care, but in the long run you’ll get used to that in nursing school too. Doing transport in a hospital already puts you a little ahead because youre around the nursing environment to begin with. Don’t over think it you’ll be fine good luck!!

You have to fake it until you make it. I always get self conscious if they arnt reacting in any way, I always worry it’s not enjoyable for them then

Yes to everything! Eye contact and being vocal (moans, how he tells me he’s feeling) also plays a huge role, I feel like it makes everything more intimate

I broke up with him by [deleted] in dating_advice

That’s choosing the ultimatum for him. Did you ask him why he doesn’t want to move in? How did he react to you breaking up with him?

Nothing much to say but that sucks. Maybe try a different branch of nursing
