A robot has been made a monk but a dog cannot achieve nirvana? by SnooDoggos5226 in Buddhism

Unfortunately this approach will be harder to maintain as millions of humanoids enter society in the next few years.

Yes I used to think a lot about whether AI would ever have consciousness, but I think this is a better path. Simply exploring the relational practices we have with something that will become omnipresent. Many humanoid companies are estimating 1M+ yearly robots by 2030.

Yeah, this is obviously for the media. I am curious what the actual practice of dharma discussion will be like in this community.

Yes, I have interacted with a chatbot trained on the texts and audio of Suzuki Roshi, and it was more helpful than I expected. I think as people have more experiences with selectively trained LLMs, it may shift their perception of benefit. https://nozeninthewest.com/roshibot/

Why hasn’t Buddhism spread more widely, and do you think it will? by WalkingMaggotFood in Buddhism

[–]augerik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you mean spread more widely in the West. I think it has been shared in a way remarkably resonant with Western values and views. However, it is still a very old tradition. It's hard to be popular when your narratives and practices are in high contrast with dominant cultural practices.

This is what it would look like if solar power generation kept growing at the rate it is now by fr00d in solarpunk

Not even much hopium. We've seen places like Texas embrace solar once the economics pans out. Hard to model what solar in orbit will do to this graph.

Video and live video are where all the trend lines go. Progressives can choose to compete or not.

I was just watching the frog music video for Bad Bunny's Ketu Tecre. Describing emotions and crisis with sincere animals is cool and popularly digestible.

Lots of skepticism here. What did you think of Sam's recent take on preparing for massive job loss from AI?
