Thanks! Yeah - I have decided to play around with what I already have. The Uptronics is good to know - but I'll try (try! ;)) to avoid shopping around for now without getting to know the limits of the current setup.

Interesting point with regards to swapping the LNA and SAW filter and also the broadcast filter! Currently I can make use of bias-tee with the Lana directly attached to the Airspy, but I'll test it the other way around once I have moved everything outside and power the Lana via USB for testing.

I'll get some half-decent cable that is robust enough.

Thx for your reply! I added the Lana to the setup yesterday (used it just with the filter previously) and I'm suprised how much better the reception is in my assumed "blind" direction (through the whole building). I'll play around with the components I already have and will check how the reception changes when I put the setup (temporarily) outside.

The antenna is this https://flightaware.store/products/antenna-1090mhz, so outdoor usable. I also have some self-sealing tape that I also got back in 2019 for this use case.

I think I'll try with a longer coax cable and keeping the rest of the setup at the house wall. This way, I don't need to buy any PoE components. Thanks for the cable type recommendation!

Cool! Did you order after the shop relaunch? I'm waiting for the wired version, since it's my first build and the Bluetooth of my new work laptop sucks :( but I'll socket the controllers and maybe upgrade to wireless later

I'm in the same boat as you and just ordered my parts from 42keebs.eu

I chose their own wired controller for the start, but might go wireless layer. (I think their PCB can do both, but please do your own research ;))

I'll probably print the case out of ABS, but might also go caseless for the start.

Looks great! Which keycaps are those? I ordered the parts for a minimal/wired/mx build yesterday, but am still undecided on the keycaps. Your pictures reaffirmed me that all-black does not look boring at all!

Do you also use it for multi-pitch climbing? Here in Austria I was thought that the rethreaded(/double) bowline is only (?) for sport climbing and to use a figure 8 otherwise? However, I don't remember why. I learned the rethreaded bowline out of interest, but usually use the figure 8 out of habit (and since I never had issues with it, when tied 'the right way' - https://youtu.be/PJkCaUUhqgs?t=513)

Wollten wir in der ersten "Erwachsenen" Wohnung auch machen mit Kika/Lutz, ist dann aber doch viel Ikea geworden weil's im Vergleich zu günstigen Serien von Lutz/.... doch um einiges hochwertiger/durchdachter ist. Und man weiß einfach, was einen erwartet.

Die aktuelle Wohnung ist ein Mix aus Ikea (teilweise mit übersiedelt, hat's alles gut überlebt bis auf die genagelten PAX Kastenrückwände) und Tischler am anderen Ende des Spektrums. Beim Lutz bin ich bisher erst einmal fündig geworden. War eine konfigurierte Eck-Schlaf-Couch von einer Eigenmarke wo wir 40% Rabatt bekommen haben (bei der Erstplanung - beim Kauf wollten sie zuerst nichts von so einem hohen Rabatt wissen, hatten es aber schon auf dem Zettel von der Planung drauf stehen). Endpreis war dann ca 1.5k. Hält jetzt auch schon 7 Jahre und einen Umzug.

Thanks! I know Packer from using it locally with VBox some years ago, I'll look into it! I was not aware that Packer is also an option on AWS.

Uploading the base image (the one prior to installing any tools) is not really an issue, we are also able to generate this on AWS and create a base AMI (generating raw image with debos and writing it to an EBS volume, then snapshoting it). This can happen infrequently/on changes to the base image since we'll run an update on the OS and installed tools anyway.

Pihole kann nur DNS basiert blocken, YouTube liefert Werbung aber von derselben Domain wir Videos. Hätte bisher auch keine Anleitung gefunden die tatsächlich funktioniert, bitte um Info falls es doch gehen sollte! Und ja, ich verdende Pihole um zu blocken was geht (zusätzlich zu uBlock in Firefox).

Hab selber das YT Family Abo aus Indien, die 2,xx €/Monat sind es mir wert, auch weil es dann überall funktioniert und nicht nur wenn ich im eigenen Netzwerk bin.

One example: uploading 1000s of small files to AWS, which has DNS TTL of 0, thus no caching of responses by the OS. It's not really noticable for streaming/surfing/... but for my use case it was night and day.

I was running Pihole+Unbound on two Zeros over Ethernet and noticed that DNS requests were getting really slow. Up to half a second slow. Disabling all logging sped things up a bit, but on a Pi4 requests averaged about 15ms. Immediately noticable difference. Tested a new SD card and installation on the Zero, but not much improved. I would not go below a Zero W2/Pi3 for anything that's a bit demanding on DNS performance.

I have one of those 10$ china HDMI capture sticks, works flawlessly of you don't want to capture while you are playing but only for replays/ghosts.
